Week 05 2024 who should I start thread **OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL** (3 Viewers)

Footballguy
This is where we ask questions and offer help.

Thank you to all the posters who come here to offer that help.

A couple notes:

I attempt to give well considered responses to all questions posted. I can't get to everything, but I'll try.

1) This only works if people participate. If you ask for help it is good form to offer help to someone else.

2) Please post the matchup. e.g. Cousins vs Den or James Cook @ Mia

3) Please post important league scoring considerations (e.g. PPR, super-flex etc).

4)
Please go easy on the nicknames, save that for other threads. We can't help if we don't know who you are talking about.

View this as an exercise to help focus your thoughts about teams in general. Players you own may not be involved in these WDIS questions but certainly you will own players on many of these teams. Analyzing other players will help you identify things you may have otherwise not considered.

Let's move on to week 5

6 points for all TDs

Justin Fields v Dal
Caleb Williams v Car
Sam Darnold v NYJ in London

I'll start.

PPR

Terry McLaurin v CLE
Jayden Reed @ LAR

Oof that's tough. I think I like Terry a bit more. Him and Jayden seem to be vibing right now.

6 points for all TDs

Justin Fields v Dal
Caleb Williams v Car
Sam Darnold v NYJ in London
I absolutely hate London games for fantasy. Something screwy always goes down. Jets D is pretty legit, and this might be the one that turns Darnold back into a pumpkin.

Fields v Dal seems shaky to me. Dal is gunning for a win badly.

I think Caleb finds a groove against the hapless cats. So he's my pick.

Trade question.

I drafted J. Ford and C. Hubbard late in drafts to help keep me afloat early in the season. So far so good. But now it could be time to go after the likes of N. Chubb and J. Brooks.

I guess my question would be, "Should I bother?"

League Note: I can start as many as 4 RBs per week due to 2 flex spots.

Here's my RB depth:

* RB 1: J. Jacobs
* RB 2: J. Conner
* RB 3: C. Hubbard
* RB 4: J. Ford
* RB Bench 1: B. Allen
* RB Bench 2: R. Dowdle
* RB Bench 3: T. Biggs
* RB Bench 4: T. Benson (for Conner)

I already have Conner backed up with Benson.

No way I'm trading B. Allen. J. Mason like upside if B. Hall gets hurt.

I could trade Biggs or Dowdle away for either/both of Chubb/Brooks.

Now all that said, I get the sense that Chubb is closer to returning vs. J. Brooks and Brooks could be slow played this season.

Go after Chubb and/or Brooks? Or leave it be?

Thanks

It's surprising the questions we ask in week 5 that we never imagined we would be asking prior to week 1.

Mahomes has barely been startable before Rice got hurt.

Daniels>Mahomes

Quick! Which team leads the NFL in pass attempts and pass yardage? You know it is either Seattle or Arizona just based on me asking the question. But my guess is most people would guess Arizona, not Seattle. That would have been my guess. The Seahawks have thrown the ball 50 more times for 404 more yards and 5 more TDs than Arizona over the first four games.

JSN>McBride

Pick my Flex:
London vs TB
Stevenson vs Mia
Thomas Jr vs Ind
Wicks @ LAC

Thx
Can't trust Rhamondre after Mayo's comments today. Maybe he responds with a big game, maybe he's now in a full blown time share. We can't tell.

Wicks is interesting with Watson likely out and I would have no problem with anyone who takes a shot on him. But I don't expect GB to be down by 28 points against the Rams and we still don't know how the offense in GB will shape up with Love under center.

Thomas is the lone bright spot on a bad Jaguars team facing a defense that gave up 300+ yards to Justin Fields.

London is the bet for consistency and the Bucs are down three starters on defense.

London>Thomas>Rhamondre>Wicks

Chubb probably has the most value for your team as you will possibly lose most of Ford's production if he is even 75% of who he was before the injury.

I don't see Brooks taking meaningful opportunities from Hubbard when he is playing this well

If Taylor is out I would start Sermon.

If Richardson is out I would also start Downs.

If Taylor and Richardson play I pivot to Mooney and probably Doubs.

Unfortunately you won't know for sure before Mooney's game. Therefore I would start Mooney and wait on news for Taylor & Richardson and start either of them over Doubs Taylor or Richardson is out.

I think there is a reasonable argument to go after Chubb because of your investment in Ford. Chubb is the presumptive starter if healthy. Brooks is not.

The problem is I doubt Chubb comes cheap. You have to decide if it's worth it to pursue him. I might float Dowdle or Biggs for him.

PPR

Fill in this week (likely) for Nabers

Worthy vs NO ( he’s currently on my roster)

Or off the FAAB waiver wire….

Downs vs Jax
Wicks vs Rams

And if a WW guy, what’s the bid? (I have $53 left of a $100 budget for the year).

TIA

Downs only if Richardson is out.

Wicks is interesting but no more so than Worthy IMO.

The problem with a bid for Downs is the assumption that Richardson may not miss much or any time so I would keep it low and roll Worthy with probably as much confidence if you miss out.

Pick 1 in 0.5 PPR

Wicks at LAR
Stevenson vs Miami
Jennings vs Arizona
Rhamondre is probably the "right" choice. The assumption being he heard his coach and will come out strong against a depleted and demoralized Miami team.

Jennings has also earned consideration in starting lineups even with Deebo, Kittle & Aiyuk there. He led the team in targets last week and seems like a potential TD waiting to happen. If you're nervous about Rhamondre I would be okay plugging Jennings in at this point.

Probably going to wait one more week on Wicks because I don't expect the Packers to be down by 28 this week.

Rhamondre>Jennings>Wicks

Standard scoring

Pick 1

Fields vs Cowboys - great last week but can he do it against a pretty tough DEF?
G.Smith vs Giants - Geno doing well but this might just be a run fest
A.Rich @ Jags - if he even plays of course

Flex please rank the following (need to start 3)

B.Hall @ Vikings - yuck. Zero last week and now draws about the toughest DEF in the league. In London no less. Yuck.
D.Metcalf vs Giants - my only doubt on him is that Seattle could handle NYG just running all day
D.Achane @ Patriots - so hard to trust with Phins' woes
G.Pickens vs Cowboys - decent yardage most weeks but never scores
J.Ford vs Commanders - low end option but gets decent volume

For me it is pretty straightforward.

Geno>Fields>Richardson

The Seahawks lead the league in pass attempts and yards. Richardson can't be trusted ATM. I like Fields fine and the Cowboys d is down Lawrence & possibly Parsons. If you prefer him I think it's a valid choice.

DK>Achane>Pickens

They are all Alpha in their offenses. The others are marginal options relative to your Alphas.

HOLY CROW!!! I read that as B. Allen! Denver looks like a top 5 defense, surprisingly so no shame in a down day. Hall still got 15 opportunities and the Jets are an up and down offense, get used to it.

HALL>DK>Achane/Pickens

Again, they're your Alphas

It's more of a coin toss between Achane & Pickens. Miami has a decent matchup in New England but, yeah they looked horrible and without a credible QB it's easier to key on Achane. But, if Huntley gets a little bit rolling early with Tyreek & Waddle and as a runner himself, it will open up opportunities for Achane. Pickens is a consistent target and has big play ability. It's a toss up between them. Tentatively I probably start Achane.

Personally I would rather have Hubbard. No idea how Chubb will rebound.

Pick 3 half ppr

G Wilson @MN
Wicks. @LAR
A Cooper @Wash
Mclaurin. v Cle
JSN v NYG
Mclaurin, JSN & Wilson

I get that Wilson has been a disappointment but he is still getting WR1 opportunities, he has 10 more targets than any other receiver on the Jets.

Unless you think the Packers are going to be down 28 to the Rams I can't recommend Wicks even with Watson likely out.

And I can't recommend Coop with Watson playing the way he is.

10 teams, 15-man rosters + 2 IR slots, 9 starters and 6 bench slots, 0.5 PPR, bonuses for plays of over 40 yards, lots of players available.
Pacheco and McCaffrey already in my 2 IR slots.

Nick Chubb is available and has started practicing (21 day window to activate). Bye weeks are starting.

Do I
1. Drop Pacheco from IR and pick up Chubb and put on IR?
2. Drop McCaffrey from IR and pick up Chubb and put on IR?
3. Drop Charbonnet (on bench) and pick up Chubb and put on active roster?
4. Do nothing, wait on Chubb and hope nobody else grabs him?

I already decided but am asking here to see if I'm stupid. Thanks.

How about a who should I pick up and maybe start if necessary?
W/ Nabors potentially being a GTD need to get another WR (or RB quite frankly) on the roster w/ a late start to possibly plug in.
Jefferson is other WR and Juaan Jennings also on the roster (Cupp on reserve and week at RB)

Tutu Atwell, Tre Tucker, Jaylen Tolbert or Romeo Doubs?
Corraderral avail? and I saw another person suggest Slayton as a possible replacement and "favorite" target of Jones.

PPR League.

The Question: Bench T. Hill this week?

I have four WR options for two slots:

* T. Hill @NE -- WIth one more week under his belt, maybe Huntley can hit on one of those 70 yarders he missed last week.

* B. Thomas vs INDY -- Honestly, there's no way I'm NOT starting him here. Great matchup. He's slowly growing into the #1WR role here.

* JSN vs NYG -- Was disappointed in his output against DET in a great matchup. Geno on fire though.

* D. Wicks @LAR -- Great matchup. Has talent. Lacks consistency. He ceiling/low floor play possibly.

Which 2?

Does Tyreek make the lineup?

Thanks

PPR League. Trade question.

I Get: AJ Brown

I Give Up: T. Hill & R. Dowdle

This is a gamble hoping AJ Brown is back next week after the bye. There hasn't been much revealed on his hamstring injury. Would need a fill in for Tyreek this week.

The other team also may need an RB to start with their J. Taylor banged up. I was hoping Dowdle emerges, but just don't think DAL is going to ever run the ball. Also, they could pursue a veteran RB at the trade deadline. Looking at DAL schedule, I don't see a situation where I play Dowdle the next three weeks.

One other thing: With AJ, I'd have a Hurts/AJ stack.

Would give me:

* WRs: AJ Brown, C. Kupp, B. Thomas, JSN, D. Wicks
* RBs: J. Jacobs, J. Conner, J. Ford, C. Hubbard (B. Allen, T. Benson, T. Bigsby)

Give up Tyreek?

I don't think you can drop Charbonnet. He is the clear handcuff for KWIII who has a pretty extensive injury history.

The news seems to suggest McCaffrey is a lot closer to returning than Pacheco, so he is probably the drop.

As far as if you should? That's up to you but I think, given the opportunity, I would.

I would start Jauan over any of the waiver options. But if you had to go with one... I guess Doubs because Tucker & Slayton have tougher matchups.
