No word yet on the severity.
Fluky injuries like that can happen in practice too.Now we know why teams sit players in Week 17.
This could just as easily happened in week 15 or 16.Now we know why teams sit players in Week 17.
I'm not disputing that. And he could have gotten hit by a bus crossing the street. But if he didn't play today he wouldn't have gotten hurt today.I'm also not saying I would de facto bench everyone, only this is why teams sit people in games that really don't matter very much. This could just as easily happened in week 15 or 16.Now we know why teams sit players in Week 17.
fwiw, it looked more like an MCL injury than an ACL injury (to this non-medical professional).Isn't a torn ACL usually a full year of recovery? If that is what this is (which odds are, it is), that could knock him out for the whole '10 season, too. Ouch.
Moss & Brady both still in.I don't get the game where I'm at but from the boxscore it seems that the Pats are still having their top dogs out there?

Or in Chase's case, the gloating thread.I thought threads like this weren't supposed to happen. Shouldn't this be in the injury or game thread?

Which is why nobody should play in Weeks 1 through 16, too. Too risky.I'm not disputing that. And he could have gotten hit by a bus crossing the street. Yep. Something like this takes heat off Indy's mgmt. Now we know why teams sit players in Week 17.
Big difference. Pats are in the Playoffs, no reason to play their starters and risk injury. THey took the chance, and Welker is out for the playoffs.Which is why nobody should play in Weeks 1 through 16, too. Too risky.I'm not disputing that. Considering how productive he was in the games Welker missed earlier this season, it wouldn't surprise if Edelman was just as productive. Not trying to take anything away from Welker, but tons of possession WRs could thrive in an offense with Tom Brady throwing the ball and Randy Moss drawing major coverage on every play.I hope Julian Edelman can step up in a big way now...
No offense but that comment is ridiculous since Indy is currently playing Manning and company in Buffalo.Yep. Something like this takes heat off Indy's mgmt. Now we know why teams sit players in Week 17.

Football = injuries.Well, this proves what a moron Belichick is. Since you have declared this is as meaningless football, he's an idiot and didn't understand the circumstances.Big difference. Could be 6 months. ACL medical progress is impressive.Isn't a torn ACL usually a full year of recovery? If that is what this is (which odds are, it is), that could knock him out for the whole '10 season, too. Ouch.
That seems overly optimistic for a guy who relies on quick routes/cuts. Honestly, not to be all doom and gloom but he might never be the same player after a severe knee injury.Could be 6 months. I think it's entirely relevant actually. It was the first thing that crossed my mind when Welker went out. Injuries are real and they happen to the very best of players. Limiting time on the field can only aid in this associated risk.No offense but that comment is ridiculous since Indy is currently playing Manning and company in Buffalo.Yep. true but that's a possibility with any injury to any player. That seems overly optimistic for a guy who relies on quick routes/cuts. But you're taking plenty away from Welker when you suggest that a rookie who just converted to receiver will be just as productive as the league leader in receptions and YPG. Tons of possession receivers may thrive in New England's offense, but I can't think of many that would thrive to the extent of Welker. When are people going to stop selling this guy short? He's excelled for three years now.Considering how productive he was in the games Welker missed earlier this season, it wouldn't surprise if Edelman was just as productive. IIRC one year Manning and Co. were so well ahead that with the reg season rest and the playoff bye-week, they came out flat in the post-season. Rest isn't always good either.I think it's entirely relevant actually. It was the first thing that crossed my mind when Welker went out. Injuries are real and they happen to the very best of players. I didn't see it. That said, any joint injury that's seen as bad right away often is because the joining appendage(?) looks displaced in an uncomfortable way like a twisted leg or a foot turned sideways after an ankle injury or somesuch. How do we know it's a "Bad" knee injury if the severity is unknown? Was it clearly something torn/broken? I didn't see it, just wondering if this is an obvious several month rehab in jury.
Well, there are a lot of folks using this injury to argue that it was the smart move by Indy to tank the balance of their season to protect their players. Nevermind the fact that Welker's injury occurred in the 1st quarter, and it's been standard of practice for even the most cowardly of coaches to play their starters for 1 quarter of games they deem meaningless.I don't think he is a moron. He is a very good coach. That doesn't mean they didn't take a risk. They did, and now a key player is out. Colts are presently risking some of their starters as well. I have no dog in this fight.
Speculating on injuries is frowned on as is starting threads about players while their game has a thread pinned and/or the injury thread is pinned. Unless it's a mod that posts it. Anyone else that does gets it locked and a nice note not to do that anymore. How do we know it's a "Bad" knee injury if the severity is unknown? Was it clearly something torn/broken? ORLY?Julian Edelman is carving up the Texans right now doing his best Welker impersonation.Patriots' SB chances were also seen carted off with Welker.OUCH.
Agree 100%, they are DOA, not that they were going to be a huge factor but they are one team you think can pull it off almost any week. They could give SD or Indy fits for 1 game but not now. Welker and Brady really make that entire offense go, not sure where they can turn unless they have a renewed commitment to the ground game. Indy and SD are breathing big sighs of relief.Patriots' SB chances were also seen carted off with Welker.OUCH.
Edelman has 9-95-0 today. Okay, it is only one game, but still, I could see him being that productive in the playoffs, too. With the attention Moss draws, it is not hard for a possession WR to catch a lot of balls in that offense, especially since so many of them are around the line of scrimmage. But you're taking plenty away from Welker when you suggest that a rookie who just converted to receiver will be just as productive as the league leader in receptions and YPG. You can't really think he will replace a guy that has back to back to back 100+ reception seasons do you? It's a devastating loss for the Pats and I am sure most of their fans would agree.ORLY?Julian Edelman is carving up the Texans right now doing his best Welker impersonation.Patriots' SB chances were also seen carted off with Welker.OUCH.

You also need to realize that the Patriots are starting to crank up the running game now that Taylor and Morris are healthy. I'd bet that the Pats go to a more balanced attack without Welker -- Which could end up being a good thing in the long run.The Patriots post season success will hinge on how the defense plays. Losing Welker might hurt some, but I don't think it's a death knell. You can't really think he will replace a guy that has back to back to back 100+ reception seasons do you? Sure, it's a big loss but Edelman is a nice slot player who gives you a lot of the same ability as Wes Welker. The key to the Patriots postseason is the secondary. If they can't stop the Colts or Chargers passing attack, Wes Welker wouldn't make much difference. You can't really think he will replace a guy that has back to back to back 100+ reception seasons do you? This.Get healthy for next season Wes!The Patriots post season success will hinge on how the defense plays. Losing Welker might hurt some, but I don't think it's a death knell.
There is no way defenses account for Edelman the same as they will for Welker, sorry but I cannot agree with you.Welker has put together one of the most impressive 3 year runs and part of it was without Tom Brady. Locker room presence too, no way the Pats will move along in the playoffs without him.Sure, it's a big loss but Edelman is a nice slot player who gives you a lot of the same ability as Wes Welker.
