What is MNF's obsession with country music? (1 Viewer)

Personally I really like the half time Country HITS! ... makes ESPN's All Jacked Up look pretty sick most weeks! :bag:

With regards to rap, I've not heard many, I guess their called songs, that don't include violence, drugs, or sex.
As I said before, there are plenty of country songs that include the three topics you bring up. Generalizing is bad.
Right....yeah.....Okay then, we'll just agree to disagree because we obviously aren't talking about the same two things.

If they used rap their ratings would be higher.
Doubtful. I find Country annoying, but not so much that I will change the channel. Many people will leave the channel as soon as they hear rap.

Pro Football = Blue Collar demographic = Country Music

That's the thinking -- BUT IT IS NOT RIGHT.

(Neither is painting with such a broad brush, BTW)
Like I said before. You have to look no further than the wardrobe malfunction that was such an embarrassment. They said they were going to clean it up and Tim McGraw and Hank Williams are much cleaner and less risky then most other genres. There are actually a lot of white collared folks that like country music too.
Was the wardrobe malfunction a "function" of live tv vs. taped performances, or does it become an issue of music genre???Changing your performers doesn't stop the unpredictability of live tv.

Not that it is bad thing, I wouldn't mind a Shania Twain wardrobe malfunction !!!

Its interesting to note that you don't speak about Common and Kanye West.Neither use the sex/drugs angle in their rhymes.

Maybe you can't speak on it because you aren't familiar with their work.

Or maybe you just don't know what you are talking about

Your reference to Cop Killer (by Ice T/Body Count) came out in 1992.

1992 !!!!

And that is one song in a flood of THOUSANDS of rap songs.

Let me put this on your level -- that kind of logic would be akin to you bad mouthing your denomintation because you didn't like one member of the congregation!

It doesn't make sense does it ???!!???

He knows his position has been invalidated, that's why he pulled out the "we aren't talking about the same thing" schtick even though we clearly were.I was going to let it slide, but nice to see someone else noticed.

It appears there are mods locking and moving threads in the Shark Pool. Could one of you please justify this thread still being here?

Do any NFL players play better after hearing Country Music?(it was worth a shot)

Hey I don't want to turn this into a "who should I buy" thread, but what's the better cd, Clutch's "Blast Tyrant" or Mars Volta "Frances the Mute"? I'll answer yours.

This is pretty frustrating to have to keep going in circles like this.#1) I'm don't have the time nor the inclination to start digging through artists, song lyrics, or the like while at work. But I know what I've seen/heard etc. That's enough for me, if it's not enough for you...I'm sorry.

#2) Have I heard Common or Kayne West? Yes...but do I remember lyrics? Perhaps vaguely, but more than likely, no. I don't have a vested interest in rap or R&B or Hip Hop. It's not my thing. I think I made that clear...right? BUT did I say it was ALL BAD? NO I DID NOT. I'm pretty sure that you're angle of attack on me is more misguided than my representation of these genres of music.

#3) I know of Cop Killer, but did I mention it specifically? NO. Get your facts right. I'll refer to #1 with regard to anything specific.

#4) Anything that affects my kids in any way, shape or form I'm very well educated about. So to say I don't know what I'm talking about is way off base. Let's just say that I don't go out and sample everything in a given store, but if I hear my kids or their friends listening to something, I'll inquire about it. Then I'll find the lyrics and make a determination based upon that. You let me know when you see a problem with any of that...Okay?

The wardrobe malfunction was a function of a former starlet's flaggin career trying to sell albums in my opinion. Maybe they'll get Kayne West to say that the president hates black people again.

I believe, sales wise, it is one of, if not the, most popular genre currently in the United States of America.

and Bush is the most popular president in the US - doens't make it even remotely good

I see alot of ignorant posts in here about how certain genres of music is crap. Why dont you just mind your own business there is crap music in every genre. Noone in here is making headway in arguments especially whoever keeps bringing up Kanye West (Racist) and Common.

I can respect all kinds of music, but those who blast their damn base next to me at red lights are idiots. I'm amazed that so many people feel others are dying to hear their music, or care about their sound system. What's even worse than that, are those that blast their music and are wearing ear plugs.

Statistically speaking though I dont think the overlap between country music fans and NFL fans is very big...
They're trying to tap the NASCAR market. ;)
I've been to a race. I've seen a few in the NASCAR market I'd lke to tap. :excited:
FACT:All NASCAR drivers have tappable wives/girlfriends. Even the scrub stock car drivers at our local tracks in No Cal pull hotties...

Oh and since this thread came back up; am I the only one who has and enjoys cd's from almost every genre?Seriously, I listen to a lot of different music and can switch directly from rap to country..... :bye:

I listen to a broad range of music but country doesn't really do it for me. Although Vince Gill got my attention on Eric Clapton's "Crossroads" DVD  IMO, the most underrated artist is Frank Zappa. The man was a musical genius but will never get the respect he deserves because of his anti music industry views. His 1988 tour was great both musically and politically....his shows focused on the Republican Party and Pat Robertson in particular. Great stuff! I especially love his solos in "Any Kind of Pain". Listen to the version on the CD "Broadway the Hardway". What you won't find on any offical FZ releases though is the "Texas Motel Medley" - a trio of Beatles songs used to parody Jimmy Swaggart. Classic genius. But I think my favorite Zappa tour was '74. Frank really showed how he could belt out the blues jams (although my favorite Zappa show might be 09May73 - get it if you can). All you need to know about '74 is 'Marty Perelis'....the continuing story of man and his beast. Think Great Dane.Sometimes though I just gotta put on some Miles. Anything post "B-Brew" is awsome. Shame they were his peak herion years, but the music's awesome! John McLaughlin, Chic Corea...there's some musicians for you.But you know, sometimes I just need to put the headphones on and crank up the 'angry white boy' music - Clutch. "Monster Trucks", "John Wilkes Booth", "Far Country", "Binge & Purge"...loud enough to make the ears bleed. Then while the ears are still ringing, put on some Dead (Spring '77 :banned: ).

I can. From Rascal Flatts to Korn to Tupac.

Yeah, gotta agree....Mars Volta hasn't done "it" for me yet. Haven't seen them live though.TSL is a great Clutch disc (note my reference to "Monster Trucks" and "B&P" in later post). I really love their old-school stuff ("Far Counry" ) but Blast Tyrant is solid, esp. "Profits of Doom". 'Robot Hive - Exodus' is growing on me each time I listen to it as well ("Mice & Gods", "Land of Pleasant Living")

Clutch at the Starland Ballroom in Sayerville, NJ the day before Thanksgiving...whoo hooo! It will be my first chance to hear the new tunes live :banned:

What do you think of the addition of the keyboard player?
