What is your favorite film Franchise? (1 Viewer)

You joke but I celebrate the complete Dominic Torretto and family series.....

A newer on for definitely John Wick

Everything’s been mentioned. I don’t know if this counts. I’ll throw out the Trilogy of Death by Alejandro Innaritu.

Amores Perros
21 Grams
Babel

All are fantastic films.

My top 5

1. Star Wars
2. Indiana Jones
3. Lord of the Rings
4. Rocky
5. Back To The Future
I'd have a similar top 5. Would replace The Lord of the Rings with the Nolan Batman movies. I think I'd personally put the Mad Max or LOTR in at 5.

I'm hoping Dune cracks the top 5 when it's all said and done.

If I had to do a top-5 (I would cheat a little)

1. Indiana Jones
2. James Bond
3. Mission Impossible
4. Planet of the Apes (new)
5. Lord of the Rings
5. Star Wars

HM: Pirates of Caribbean, Harry Potter, Hunger Games

Hard to keep out:
Halloween
The Road Warrior
Totally missed Mad Max, 100% agree with that one.

Halloween brings up another thought: anyone put Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy in this discussion? I haven't seen them all so I can't, but I bet if I did, I would:

The Thing (1982)
Prince of Darkness (1987)
In the Mouth of Madness (1994)

Three excellent Carpenter films.

Marvel if you can stop at Endgame
Star Wars if you can stop at 6 (and maybe sprinkle in a little bit of the new Disney+ stuff)
Bourne if you can stop at the 3rd one

Hmmm, noticing a pattern here!

I think you really have to have 3 good films to qualify, for me at least. If the franchise is only 3 films and 1 of them sucks then I don't think 2 good films is enough for it to be a top "franchise".

Harry Potter I would add as well. One of the few that didn't get worse as it went on and actually arguably got even better. Although I guess they made those Fantastic Beast movies that weren't very good.

This is why the Matrix isn't on my list. The first one was so good, but I fount the next 2 to be average.

Oh I'll watch all of these. Between F&F and Mission Imp, the stunts and action just get more and more outlandish and fun. They are all basically superheroes now.

Oh and I forgot to add the most recent Godzilla movies and Monarch TV show to my list.

This was how my thinking was going too. Movie series = TV shows in that I can't think of many I like all the way through or don't have pretty terrible entries in the franchise.

Most of my answers were trilogies, like Back to the Future, but IMO that is a little different than franchise.

Harry Potter would be my answer, I guess, but I also haven't seen the Fantastic Beast movies.

I'm not sure about the entire series - 3 is just ok and 4 is not very good. But my favorite movie is Lethal Weapon 2. It's such a great, funny movie filled with awesome action and a beautiful girl. And a villain we can all rally around hating.
Lethal Weapon 6 got the franchise back on the right track.
I get this reference 😂

I think it is one of the cancelled episodes along with Dee Day...

Found a link with the list:

  • Season 4, Episode 3, "America's Next Top Paddy's Billboard Model Contest"
  • Season 6, Episode 9, "Dee Reynolds: Shaping America's Youth"
  • Season 8, Episode 2, "The Gang Recycles Their Trash"
  • Season 9, Episode 9, "The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 6"
  • Season 14, Episode 3, "Dee Day"

Not if you own the DVDs!;;!! I don't have season 14 I don't think.

And so stupid since the premise is how awful they are and even mention it lol

I thought the first Fantastic Beasts was as good as any of the original HP movies. But went downhill from there for sure.

I guess when you talk "Franchises" it may need to be bigger than a trilogy. I am not sure I would consider Back to the Future a franchise but it is a trilogy.
LOTR becomes a franchise if you include both trilogies. As does Star Wars when you include all 9 movies and even the D+ shows.
Mission Impossible, Bond, MCU, Fast Series are all big franchises.
Indy, Wick are smaller ones.

It's like TV shows to me, in that once you get past 4 or so Seasons/movies in the series they spin their wheels. Most of the stuff I thought of that I loved all the way through were trilogies like Back to the Future. I agree, that's not a series because it's just the three. Karate Kid can be because there are remakes and ones with the mighty Hilary Swank.

I guess I was thinking just movies, but get what you are saying. All those franchises or others that I also thought of like Aliens, Die Hard, etc. seem to have 2-4 that I love and the rest I can barely be bothered with. Many get truly awful.

Terminator.
Liked part 1-3 then it goes to ****.

3 gets a lot of flack but I felt it was what pretty damn good.
You get two of arguably the best action movies ever, and yes, some other stuff. Also a show in the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I honestly think 3 is the weakest of the group.
Genisys was decent. Salvation was god awful.

Dark Fate was…..ok.

The show however was vastly underrated.

Absolute ponderous hot garbage part 2 and 3.

I actually enjoyed part 4.

Part 1 is such a classic.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Genisys would actually have been quite good with better casting. Jai Courtney is just the worst. Emilia Clarke wasn't much better.

The TV show was cancelled just as it got really interesting.

I've said a million times that I could edit one really good move from 2 & 3.

Part 4 though is hopeless.
