What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

My weekend just got really beery...a box landed from PA earlier. Easily one of my best hauls.

Hill Farmstead 750ml growler Double Citra

Hill Farmstead 750ml growler Society & Solitude #4

Hill Farmstead 750ml bottle of Anna

Maine Beer Company Dinner x 4

Heady Topper x 3

Treehouse Haze x 2

Second Fiddle DIPA

Westbrook Gose

Vault Brewing Nitro Can Coffee Stout (Experiment No 003)

:pickle:
Damn. What do you have to give up for something like that?

The trade breaks down like this:

4 Maine Beer Co Dinner for 1 Cycle Nooner9

2 HF Growlers + 6 mixed cans (Heady, Haze, Second Fiddle) for 2 Cycle Rare DOS and a Cigar City Lacto Blackberry Grove.

For extras I sent a Crank Crowler, Reef Donkey x 2, Free Dive, Unholy.

For extras he sent HF Anna, Westy Gose, and Vault Coffee Stout.

I would have liked another Second Fiddle and one less Heady, but I'm not complaining.

Bottom line: Cycle Stouts bring a high ransom. The Nooner9 was $25/bomber and was limited to 300-400 bottles and sold out in less than 2 hours. The DOS were $20 each but took 10 days to sell out.

Very cool. Was interested to see how that worked out so thanks for sharing.

Hill Farm Anna is a top 5 beer of theirs in my book. I know some others don't see it that way but I do. Everett is #1, Anna is right up there with the rest.

Who is this person in PA and why didn't he just drive this box by my house instead?

If anybody knows or cares about Tired Hands Brewery, I live a couple minutes away. I actually don't love the styles of their bottle releases usually, but they are supposedly highly sought-after in the trade community.

What do they release in bottles? Ive heard good things about their beers.

I tried a few local beers when I was in Florida last week. A thumbs up for the CIgar City Jai Alai, a very solid IPA. I can't say the same for Big Tops Circus City, pretty unremarkable and way to malty for an IPA.

Best FL IPAs Ive had are

Crank (Cycle Brewing, brewery only)

Brew Hub Inside Joke IPA (draft/growler only)

Jai Alai (CCB)

Free Dive (Coppertail)

Cat 5 (Due South)

Wynwood IPA (draft only as far as I know)

Then theres a bunch of local ones that are canned that are all MEH - JDubs Up Top, 3 Daughters Bimini Twist, Big Storm Arca, Two Henrys 7 Mile Bridge, Big Top Circus...I avoid em all.

Where were you at in FL?

I think I may have to go ahead and plow through the growler of Hill Farm's Double Citra...Ive had at least 4 people tell me its one of the - if not THEE - best IPA theyve had (even though its technically a DIPA)...gotta work for a couple hours later but not til after midnight...

Not a fan of any of the Bells planet series...not saying they're not good, just not my cup of tea.

Halfway through the growler of Double Citra...man...I probably shouldn't have started with this as my first HF beer...they can't all be this good.

Oh man, I sent you a Uranus. Sorry, hope you like it more than you have the other releases.
All good man, I havent had that one yet. The ones Ive tried are just way too malty for my taste...but I still housed em like a champ...as I will the Uranus...we get Bells down here though for future reference :)

Kind of want to hit one of my growlers of Nelson Prairie Madness but also don't want to.

Ah, #### it. I can get another one tomorrow.

I knew you got Bells, didn't think the Planet series made it to Florida though. I just opened my first Uranus and I don't think it's very malty for a double ipa. Here is the profile on the beer:

The sixth release in our Planets Series, Uranus, is a Black Double IPA. It is also our first large release of this style of beer. The hop profile is enormous and complex with help from Citra, Galaxy, Polaris and other hard to find hops. The use of de-bittered or de-husked black malt lends color without the overly astringent or roasty flavors normally associated with stouts and porters. Dont let the illusion of The Magician deceive you. Dank, tropical, stone fruit, citrus, floral and pine hop characteristics with a touch of light chocolate are all revealed.

They go quick but theyre not too hard to find if you know where to look ;)

DO IT!

and of course, report back.
Probably their best yet. I loved their mosaic and citra versions but I love me some Nelson hops. Going to keep on drinking this until they run out or I start speaking with a New Zealand accent.

Start of a 4 day weekend. Might have a Wingnut "uh oh" moment where I think it's a good idea to crack a 10% abv IIPA at 1am.

So it's a good idea to head out there to get some then?

Good to know. The description just sounded right up your alley: citra and galaxy hops, dank, tropical, citrus and stone fruit.

I like it quite a bit so I would say yes. You could always parlay it into a lunch at Tribes and a visit to Open Bottle. They had Lunch on tap (though not cheap).

Captain Serious is damn good too but I am covered there since I have a bunch of Vallejo which I like better. Who am I kidding. I will probably be up there by Saturday to get some of that too.

I enjoyed that Bells, one of the better black IPAs I've had. I am pretty sure I made some comments about it on here...but hell if I can find it. Into my 2nd Citrusinensis, Julius on deck for tomorrow.

How does it compare to Nelson Sauvin?

Pipeworks is better, IMO.

ETA: This one is drinking very nicely, however. And quickly.

Damn...that DOES sound right up my alley...and at 9.5% its not over the top alcohol wise...Im now looking forward to it, I figured it was a 10+% beer so I wasnt gonna seek it out.

Now a New Holland Taz, real nice summer beer with hops from down under. Big step up for New Holland. I heard they actually tweaked their entire ipa lineup which was much needed IMO.

Creature Comforts "Tropicalia". This is a brewery out of Athens ga. Tropicalia is an IPA. It's my favorite IPA besides sculpin. Not too hoppy, kind of a fruity bitterness to it but not too strong. It's an awesome beer, and I think this brewery is going to be the next big thing in the south. Liquor stores sell out 30 minutes after receiving their deliveries.

That's high on my list of beers to try. If you ever want to trade, let me know. I'm in Michigan and can get any beers from my fine State.

Love NZ hops.About to have a Second Fiddle DIPA.
How is it?
As good as Heady, IMO. A tad more malt but a tad more dankness.

Wish I wouldve known you wanted to try Tropicalia...Ive got one more in my fridge and almost sent it.

I really liked that beer but wish it had a little more bitterness. Their Athena (berliner) was fan-#######g-tastic IMO. As good as Ive had. Wish I had got more than one can,

Thanks for the offer. No big deal, I'll track one down.
