What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Had a bunch of beers at Maple Bacon day. Standouts:

FB Maple Bacon Coffee Porter (though not as smokey as last years IMO)

FB Rye Whiskey BA Kona Snowed In (coconut coffee porter)

FB Raspberry Berliner

FB Rice Krispy Treat Ale (it really tasted like rice krispy treats)

FB No Crusts (PB&J Brown Ale)

FB Key LIme Pie Berliner

Wicked Weed Medora

Had a few from other breweries that didnt measure up.

Managed to hit J Wakefield brewery and Wynwood on the way in...JWB had a limited number of beers on tap, but the El Jefe was good, and the Ronan the Strawberrian (strawberry-rhubarb Berliner) was fantastic. Nothing at Wynwood impressed me at all.

Gonna order a pizza and crack a crowler of my current new favorite Florida IPA, Civil Society's Lil Juice. :banned:

I wish they had Juice (their DIPA) on tap...if its anywhere near good as Lil Juice, itll be amazing.

Vail Big Beers was a ridiculous weekend of drinking. I went to a variety of seminars on different topics like spontaneous fermentation (hosted by the owners of Allagash, Jester King, Trinity, and Prairie), barrel blending (hosted by Troy Casey of Casey Brewing & Blending), and barrel sourcing (hosted by the owners of Avery, the Bruery, Casey, Arizona Wilderness, and the head of the barrel program at Goose Island) -- all of which included several pours of different barrel-aged beers. The beer festival itself was incredible, as there were just so many amazing beers available to drink. Here were some of my standouts from the festival:

AC Golden Kriek Noir sour brown ale with cherries aged in wine and whiskey barrels

Allagash Nancy sour red ale with Balaton and Montmorency cherries

Bell's Bourbon Barrel-Aged Expedition Stout

Black Project Kal'mar spontaneously fermented imperial gose

The Bruery Grey Monday imperial stout with hazelnuts

Casey The Cut: Plum sour ale with plums

Firestone Walker Anniversary Ale XVII

Firestone Walker Parabola (2014)

Firestone Walker Sucaba (2014)

Goose Island Bourbon County Rare

Goose Island Bourbon County Prop

Jackie O's Oil of Aphrodite imperial stout with walnuts and Belgian candied syrup

Jester King Funk Metal sour barrel-aged stout

Odd13 Walking Phoenix sour blonde ale with gooseberries

Renegade Depravity imperial peanut butter cup milk stout

Ska Face English-style barleywine aged in bourbon barrels for 3 years

Surly Darkness imperial stout (2012)

Wicked Weed Angel of Darkness sour ale with boysenberries, blackberries, raspberries, and cherries aged in sherry casks

Wicked Weed Black Angel sour ale aged in bourbon barrels with cherries

^

The FB fest was full pours, I couldn't have tried that many if I tried.

Finishing up a 750ml bottle of Angry Chair German Chocolate Cupcake Stout, which they bottled for the first time and put on sale today. Such a great beer.

so, I've done a bit of reading about storing beer. the takeaway for sure is to keep it out of light and a cooler environment. there seems to be some debate on the temp howver, so I am asking for the experts take from what has worked as a basic storage.

I do not have a basement. I currently have the beer in a dark room with little sunlight and it is at a room temp of maybe 65 degrees. I could put the beer in a closet so it is completely dark, but I am still looking at the 65 or so temp.

I do have a fridge I could put in but I have read that that actually may not be beneficial to the beer as it could be too cold.

anyone store their stuff in a room temp environment in a closet? if so, how long have you stored it and have you noticed OK results? thanks for any suggestions.

Until last year when I bought a chest freezer and put a temp controller on it, I kept mine in a closet that stays around 70 degrees (Floirida)...never noticed any degradation of any beer, but I never "cellared" any for more than about 6-7 months in it.

thanks wing. will keep in mind if any of my bottles approach that time frame and then maybe refrigerate.

65 is fine. I think really between 50 and 70 is ok. The thing you don't want is large rapid swings in temperature. I have a closet under my basement stairs that stays between 50 and 65. The change in temp happens very gradually so everything always held up well and seems to age nicely.

I just found out a local growler shop has a kick the keg special on Friday's were select growlers are 1/2 price. I picked up Founders Azacca IPA for $6. Next week I'm bringing more growlers to fill. :banned:

Also bought an empty keg today so I don't have to bottle my homebrew anymore. For a rainy Friday it's treating me all right so far.

thanks 80's. makes me feel better.

Flying Monkeys Chocolate Manifesto (triple milk Stout). Highest rated Ontario beer on Untappd in 2015 apparently. I'm on vacation for a week starting tonight so tracked down a bottle and drinking it in a hotel before flying south tomorrow

Cruise w/Celebrity starts tomorrow - apparently they have 50ish American Craft beers,so I'll drink stuff you guys have actually heard of and report back.

I'm also going to be in Montreal in 10 days. Torn between grabbing as many new (to me) beers as I can, or just case upon case of Peche Mortel

Had a bunch of local and small distro beers out in Vegas. Some very good (pizza port swami's) and others that were average.

Crooked Stave Silly Cybies Belgian dark sour aged in oak barrels with raspberries

Birra del Borgo Duchessic Ale saison blended with Cantillon lambic

Bourbon County Barleywine

Bourbon County Brand Stout

Eddyline Crank Yanker IPA

My wife and I are currently in the process of making beer (via Brooklyn Beer kit).

Way too much work. I do not recommend.

Just go buy it somewhere.
