What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

I wouldn't call this positive at all. Oskar Blues didn't acquire them, Fireman Capital Partners did. Your article is the spin they want. They are a private equity firm that now owns 5 breweries under the LLC United Craft Brews. Being an equity firm means they are only looking to flip for profit. I think they will try to strength the portfolio as much as they can then sell it off to InBev or MillerCoors. That is if those two are still separate by then. DoJ is suppose to have an anti-trust ruling on that merger later in the year. Here is another article on it.

I read up a bit on Fireman Capital. Doesn't look like a turn and burn firm. This might end up working out for the best in the short term. Seems like the Cigar City guy is pretty stressed out.

Back on topic....

Pacifico at the Mexican Restaurant, Couple Plinys, couple Pizza Port tipas. Now at home drinking a DC Brau Pils that came in a box of Ocelot beer. Can't wait to drink those.

Ocelot Anniversary April 30th, btw. Who's in?

Yeah I read a different article before I posted the one that explained the acquisition better...Im pretty sure this is gonna be good for all parties. Joey stays on board, and will have the financial baking and facilities to ramp up production and get Cigar City to other parts of the country. Do I think its the perfect situation? Probably not, but CCB has been completely maxed out on production capacity and it was getting to the point where they needed to do something. This will definitely allow the guys to relax and not worry about any of the headaches that come with expansion, etc. Had the InBev deal went through, Id be completely thinking the opposite.

Going to Baltimore a couple weeks after that and was thinking about trying to get by.  This could be a good reason for me to finally haul down there early.  Anything special planned?

Outdoor permit, bands, probably around 25 taps, including our first barrel aged stuff. Unfortunately the permit comes with restrictions. We can't sell growlers or bottles during the party. But most special, is that I'll be there!

ETA: I'm sure you checked, but it is pretty far from Baltimore. While you are in Baltimore check out my friends at Union Craft. They make killer beer. And if you go to Fell's Point check out Max's Tap House. One of my favorite beer bars.

No, I know, but we have other friends that live closer to DC, so I've got no problem swinging that.  I've been to Max's, but definitely want to check out Union Craft.

Will definitely have to consider the anniversary party.

Tired Hands HopHands APA. Delicious. One of the better APAs Ive had in a long time,

Crowler of Civil Society $eeing Green DIPA. Solid. 9% ABV, this one kicked my butt.

Grimm Lambo Door DIPA. Good but was canned 2/01/16. A bit malty, I think a lot of hops had faded.

Tired Hands is putting out IPAs as good as almost anyone these days. Really good, hazy, hoppy beers.

Ive got some cans of RAR beers (out of Cambridge, Maryland) on the way - HYDE, Reaper, and Pulp...heard really good things about them and am excited to try some of their beers.

I may be trading for some Ocelot soon...Im hearing good things about them too (outside of FBG). Word is theyre killing it in the IPA game.

What would it take to get some Sebowski???

I'll see if anyone who works there would be down for trading. It will get a lot easier logistically when the bottling line is running. I hate shipping glass growlers.
oh yeah growlers are a pain but I do like collecting them. I can even send a Half Acre or Solemn Oath in return.

Half Acre is so damn good, consistently delivering good to great IPAs. Powder Blue, blueberry IPA, really good. Blueberry on the nose and start, on top of a really nice IPA.

Did you get this at the HA store or is it in distribution? Absolutely loved Killer Queen so would love to try this too.

Brewery only right now, not sure if it will make it's way into distro or not though. Killed the one growler today....may go and get another tomorrow.

ETA Got a growler of Taco Day as well, Pale single hopped using Equinox. Another great one.

Mother of God. Drinking a Trillium Double Dry Hopped Melcher Street...Ive had some really amazing IPAs, but this one may take the cake, Just incredible, Im always pimping Tree House as my favorite brewery, but Trillium may be the true hop champ. This beer makes me wanna jump on a plane to Boston right now. Wow.

Living in the SW burbs, that's a haul for me. Hell, even working in the city on weekends it's kind of a pain in the ###. Still, I need to get back up there before my exodus. Have a few empty growlers of theirs begging to be filled with Space and maybe Powder Blue. They are going to be at Tinley Brew and Vine festival on the 9th. Will be interesting to see what they bring.

I'm in the W burbs so I hear you, without traffic it's a 50 min ride can be 2 hours with traffic. When are you moving? And you should try some Taco Day if they have it, really nice pale. We should def try a get a cornhole together before you leave. And FYI drinking a growler of Powder Blue in like 4 hours isn't a smart idea even if it does seem like it at the time.

I'm not the beer connoisseur that many posting here seem to be...

But it seems most here prefer the hoppy end of the beer flavor spectrum?

For me, the hoppy beers that I've sampled come across as flowery or bitter. Not for me.

I've come to like the smoother ambers. Newcastle has always been my go to ....but lately have turned to Shiner Boch.

Any recommendations as to other beers that might fit my taste?

Went to a private party yesterday at Cigar City for volunteers that worked the Huna Day festival. Had some pretty great beers.

started off at the hotel with Tree House Alter Ego, then at the brewery had:

CIgar CIty Zhukovs Final Push, Imp Stout made with Kopi Luwak (or civet cat poop coffee). 4.5/5

Marz Brewing's Hop Goes The Weasel (Gose). 4.25/5

Cigar City Xquic. Imperial stout w/maple and coffee. Maybe the best beer of the night. 5/5

Cigar City 2016 Hunahpu Stout. 4.25/5

Proof Grapefruit Guru IPA. 4/5

Casa Agria MEGA Citronic. Amazing NE style IPA. 4.75/5

Hill Farmstead Flora with Blueberries, Black Currants, Raspberries. 4.5/5

Cycle Wednesday (2016). Bourbon BA Cinnamon Hazelnut Imp Stout. Amazing. 4.75/5

And man am I hungover.

Helluva list.

Received my first Noble Brewer shipment and tried Annie Johnson's Imperial Vanilla Porter - very nice almost has a BA quality to it, I like it a lot.

So whats the details on that club? One time membership fee? Beers how often? And they ship to your house?

Picked up a couple locals to try last night.

Turtles On Pterodactyls

Birdsong Brewing Turtles On Pterodactyls. Is a Mexican Stout aged in Bourbon barrels. Still not sure how I feel about it. Was interesting. Definitely got the peppers and spices to go along with some chocolate. Really wish it had more of a bourbon kick though.

The Unknown Dirty Commie Heathen

Russian Imperial Stout. Going to have this tonight.

Also picked up 2 Prairie Pirate BOMB!

Aged in Rum barrels.

Picked up a 4 pack of Highland Tasgall II Scotch Ale. I've had some of the other from Highland but not this one. I'm a big fan of scotch ale and wee heavy so looking forward to this one.

I love beer. Half Acre Taco Day single hopped with Equinox, so F'ing good. 18th St Euro Tight Pants Rye DIPA very very nice. Drunk on a Tuesday not a great idea...but f it.

dirty commie heathen was good, but not great. so far, for my money, if you want a good nc stout, you need to stay with olde hickory brewing. haven't tried anything from nc that is even close to ohb event horizon and lindley park.

Hyde IPA by RAR Brewing in Cambridge, MD...I traded for 3 of their beers, this is the first one Ive had....very impressed, this beer is sticky-icky dank! Cant place the hops, maybe Simcoe and/or Galaxy. Hazy, bitter, no malt to speak of. Im a fan.

Not sure on the exact date. Target is early summer. I wouldn't mind meeting up...it's just been insanely busy working in basically dual roles and trying to get this house together.

Had a nice score this week. Went in to see if they had any Todd and they had 2 4 packs left amongst the Abrasive stack. Checked to see if they had any Coconut Jones Dog. Nope. But they did have some Crimson Snapper so I grabbed 2 more of those.

Drank an Abrasive last night and it still holds up. Damn good.

Mikerphone Special Sauce. Mosaic hopped NE style IIPA.

Delicious. Glad I got 2. May go back and see if they have anymore available tomorrow.

Just finished a New Glarus Thumbprint Apple Ale. NG just kills every fruit beer they make. Super tasty but 12oz is borderline too much (sweet). Great beer though.

Just cracked a Todd The Axe Man. Maybe the best New England IPA not brewed in New England.

Apple Ale is good but definitely not my favorite NG beer.  One of the other ones I really just never fell in love with was Cranbic.  I wanted to love it.  I just didn't.

Just went on the NG website on a whim, I didn't realize Raspberry Tart, Wisconsin Belgian Red, and Serendipity were year-round now.  Has that been the case for awhile now?  I haven't been to WI in like 2 years now.
