What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

Watching this opening date too.  Not many good breweries close by me in A Heights.

Surly Furios this afternoon
Unless something for my kids pops up I will be there opening day/night.

Trying some new brews tonight after doing the "make your own sixer" thing:

450 North Juice Box = meh -- maybe my expectations were too high considering the name, or maybe it wasn't super-fresh, but meh. Too malty, and just typical muddy and bitter hop presence. Do not recommend.

450 North Galaxy Fest = Wow! Now we're talking! Dank and tropical / citrusy, very hop-forward, and the Galaxy character is obvious (and I'm a big sucker for Galaxy). Will buy again, and highly recommended!

450 North Scarecrow and Bare Hands Reasoning on deck (that's the 3rd time -- they're here to stay).

I saw a check in on Untappd of this beer, and it was a low rating...I almost commented that with a name like that, it better be good. lol

Just had a Cycle Pallet 7 (BA Baltic Porter). It was pretty good on its own, and then I added a shot of Hill Farmstead's BA Maple Syrup...dayum.

So by "juice" you mean NE style ipas?

Speaking of which, have you tried the new Stratus? Now with more haze...
No I meant juice as in Orange and Apple....felt like hell for about a week. And I'm drinking a stratus right now! Might be my favorite of the cloud series.

Yeah, Mehmbus. The other 2 are really good though and I haven't tried the new hazy Stratus.

Have you been to Myths and Legends?
I haven't, tbh I hadn't even heard of them before now.

Are they the renamed Urban Legend?

No Hopslam here yet.  :kicksrock:  And I really need to head over to IL to grab some Hailstorm one of these days. I did go grab some more Galaxyfest and some Villain for this weekend's games though.

TBH I am not likely to buy it again. 20/6 pack is crazy for what it is IMO.

Yeah, I know. But I'll probably buy it every year just for nostalgia's sake. It's definitely not mind-blowing (or even close) anymore, but I go through my sixer pretty quickly every year nonetheless. I'm a big fan of the honey / hops thing, and Hopslam is easy to get when it hits. Thus far I've been too busy / lazy to drive up to Bridgman to get Honeystone or out to Granger to get Honey Badger LOL.

Yeah I get the honey hops combo with PW fish series.

  Maybe some day they'll distro in NWI so I can get their stuff more easily (I mean it's a few miles away, and they send stuff to NY and now CT -- come on). As it stands, it's typically less of a PITA for me to go up into Michigan than it is to go over into IL given the traffic and crap.

I totally get that, traffic into the city sucks.

Just stop at Hailstorm when you do an Open Bottle trip....or pick up some cans at OB. Growlers at Hailstorm are very reasonable (I want to say $13 for the refill and $3 for the glass?) especially compared to the ridiculous prices being charged for growlers these days by a lot of places.

I plan to next time I head over. I actually meant to grab some last trip, but somehow about $150 of other beer jumped into my basket first.

Hmmm... my favorite local bar / restaurant (https://www.beermenus.com/places/7498-stacks-bar-grill) is tapping a keg of it tonight. If that holds out until tomorrow (and it should) maybe I won't buy any cans this year.

In other Hailstorm news....Lumberjack Breakfast coffee, maple, milk stout release on Jan 21. Then on the 28th its the release of Vlad the Second Order bourbon barrel aged Vlad.

Just got my 6er of Hopslam. It definitely has lost it's dominance with the wave of new gen IPAs that have blown up the last few years. Still a great DIPA, but overpriced. However, it still carries big weight here in Michigan. Bells has a real special spot here in the heat of Michigan beer drinkers. 2 Hearted is the fallback go to draft beer at every establishment, the release of Hopslam always comes with fanfare and Oberon release day is a borderline state holiday.

Green Bench Sunshine City IPA.

All you Midwest guys are always partying and carrying on, I feel like an outsider in here. lol

As soon as it's available here (Northern VA), I'll be drinking Duck Rabbit Barleywine Ale. Last year I could only get 2 1/2 cases. This year, my goal is 3 cases.

Bear in mind, the weather's pretty sh#tty in the midwest this time of year. Not a lot to do BUT drink.

Recently for me: 3F Gumballhead, Cigar City Maduro, Spotted Cow.

Growler each of Airways Sky Hag IPA and Airways Jumbo Juice IPA. Disappointed they wouldn't sell me some Mosaic Pale. If you live in the Seattle area and haven't heard of Airways look them up, you can thank me later.
