Last year I had a bunch. Got them at Mariano's too. The secret is out so I get it.Damn...got two six packs at beer cellar for 13 each. I forgot how much a punch they pack. 11.9% this year.
Yeah, eff that. $11.99 / 6 here. That $19.99 is all on distributor / retail too; Lagunitas has always been consistently awesome on price, particularly given the quality. I felt like I was stealing when I grabbed High-Westified particularly.Binnys sold out. Found some at a place that likes to overcharge and they wanted 19.99 for a six pack. Pass.
Had a few last night -- delicious and dangerous. 11.9% is too much for an IPA really, for me anyway. I can sip on a big stout for a while, but fly through hoppy beers. Had two Waldo's in about 40 minutes by the fire pit last night and was just wasted and went in to pass out. 7-8% seems to be the sweet spot for me.Damn...got two six packs at beer cellar for 13 each. Look for Head Hunter too -- both damn good beers.I was at the Philly airport the other day and this place had Fathead's Hop Juju Double IPA on tap....pretty darn good. Very drinkable at 9.0%.
I agree, it's rare that I touch an IPA that strong (Hopslam might be the only one (and thats usually about 10%). I prefer my IPAs between 5 and 8.Had a few last night -- delicious and dangerous. 11.9% is too much for an IPA really, for me anyway. This is why I can't justify giving the Crafty brands (Goose, 10 barrel, Archer, Elysian....) a penny of my money. Even for the special releases. They turn around and use that money to try and crush real craft. Real jobs. Real good beer. #### those ####ers.
I agree. To put things in perspective, they were also trying to charge $19.99 for a Permanent Funeral. They've since reduced it to $14.99.Yeah, eff that. $11.99 / 6 here. Koch's company has been hit on hard times lately and I'm sure the dynamics that he discusses around distributors is true. However, his company functions a lot more like the global breweries than the vast majority of craft breweries out there.
IMO $14.99 is even a lot for PF, considering that it's $10 at the brewery. The $10 FFF bombers and 6ers are, at most, $11.99 in NWI, and more likely $10.99. I know taxes are higher in IL but a 50% or 100% markup is really harsh.I agree. To put things in perspective, they were also trying to charge $19.99 for a Permanent Funeral. I might try and look at some other places today but there is a BA stout release at Arrowhead which is about 2 min from me. I want to say they are charging $15 which is nothing in these crazy times...
After typing that I almost feel like I am obligated to go stand in line somewhere.
The more I read (after you said something a year or so ago) the more I'm coming around to this way of thinking. Definitely played a role in me not really chasing BCBS this year -- although to be totally honest I did grab one bottle of regular and it was outstanding. Just made a conscious decision to give most of my BA stout $$$ to Founders this year for KBS...This is why I can't justify giving the Crafty brands (Goose, 10 barrel, Archer, Elysian....) a penny of my money. Oof. Been there a few times GB; it gets better fast.Waldo, Let's Gummy (Noon Whistle), Golden Nugget, and a bunch of other stuff. Wasted. Exhausted....up till 4am last night and back up at 7:30....just got a new puppy last night.
Up till 4am because the wife went to pick him up in Tennessee and didn't get home until then. Almost time to call it.Oof. Been there a few times GB; it gets better fast.
I'm pretty hooked, including the grapefruit tangent. It's my go-to when I'm not pouring money into Alpine's Pure Hoppiness and Duet.Old standby.. Rebel IPA
Next one for me will be a Waldo's, and that'll do it here too.Up till 4am because the wife went to pick him up in Tennessee and didn't get home until then. Almost time to call it.
Piss poor....Next one for me will be a Waldo's, and that'll do it here too.
Maybe it runs in the last name. Greg Koch, owner of Stone, has gotten pretty disillusioned with his share of craft as well. They had a lot of layoffs this year and he said consumers are too "hyper local" for them to continue to thrive in the market.Koch's company has been hit on hard times lately and I'm sure the dynamics that he discusses around distributors is true. However, his company functions a lot more like the global breweries than the vast majority of craft breweries out there.
I think his doom and gloom around a day when we won't have the broad choices we have today is a little overboard.
Jesus....just left Civil Society with cans of Gator Farm (IPA collaboration w/Aslin), and Juice DIPA...these beers are unreal...especially Juice...it's their first batch in a long time and I'm tellin ya, these guys are THE hop wizards of Florida. They're the reason I don't trade much anymore, there's just no reason to.
Also, grabbed a crowder of Schmedium, their Pineapple Strawberry IPA collab with Slim Pickens...insanely tasty, fruity and refreshing.
Hawks, I can't wait for you to get down here in May and check these guys out in person.

@Wingnut does Civil Society distribute outside of their brewery? My wife is in St Augustine and wondering if I should send her on a beer quest.Jesus....just left Civil Society with cans of Gator Farm (IPA collaboration w/Aslin), and Juice DIPA...these beers are unreal...especially Juice...it's their first batch in a long time and I'm tellin ya, these guys are THE hop wizards of Florida. Negative. Cans are brewery only. Once they're sold out, they're sold out. They do distribute kegs to some places in S Florida but that's about it. They do have plans to eventually put cans in distro, I think they just bought their own canning line but until they get it up and running they're using a mobile canning line.@Wingnut does Civil Society distribute outside of their brewery? Awesome. Sounds like next time i'm down there I should check a bag. Thanks for the quick response.
On a side note Cigar City is all over the Charlotte area now. Jai Alai is a solid choice to add to the repertoire.
Depends how long it lasts in the taproom. I can't make it this weekend. Might try Tuesday night. If it's around, no problem.Want to trade?

Reminds media have one of these in my fridgeWTF Founders? Popped up in my beer group on FB, thought it was a joke -- after googling, I actually think it's real. :X Why?
