What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

Spent yesterday AM and today AM stewarding a pro-beer contest.  Over 700 entries of professionally brewed craft beer.  As steward, it's my job to being beer samples to the judges and help where I can, but I also help with judging and sampling.  Yesterday my table was English milds and porters. Today was english strongs and anything aged in wood.  Some really fantastic stuff.  Unfortunately it's all blind so I can't say what everything was.

Side bonus: all extra beer from comp is given away to volunteers.  I pulled a case roughly yesterday, expect the same today.

Sponsor of this comp: https://www.beerarmy.org
Final tally: 48 12 ozers, 13 22 or larger (including some 32 Oz crowlers).  Styles include IPA, Imperial Stouts, some gose, some Belgian quads, quite a bit of barrel aged stuff, plus some basic lagers/golden ales/etc.

Smutyynose Brewing Co to be sold at auction

http://www.seacoastonline.com/news/20180118/smuttynose-brewing-co-to-be-sold-at-auction

HAMPTON -- Smuttynose Brewing Company, which bills itself as New Hampshire’s top craft brewery, is seeking an immediate buyer. The company is scheduled to be sold at bank auction March 9. Founded in 1994, the company employs 68 people and generates more than $10 million in revenue a year, it says.

The sale includes the Smuttynose brand, its LEED-Gold certified facility on the historic Towle Farm in Hampton, and Hayseed Restaurant located next to the brewery on its 13-acre campus. The brewery is capable of producing 75,000 barrels a year, according to the company. However, in the last year it has been running at 50 percent capacity.

“The company’s financial models were based on 20 years of consistent growth but the explosion of microbreweries has led to changing dynamics in the marketplace,” Smuttynose owner Peter Egelston said. “This dramatic shift occurred just as Smuttynose committed to a major infrastructure investment with the construction of the new production facility. As the turmoil in the marketplace stabilizes, Smuttynose, a trusted brand with strong consumer loyalty, can regain its footing with a major infusion of capital.”

Egelston recently held a staff meeting in which he informed employees of the impending auction: “I reminded them that the company’s most valuable assets are the Smuttynose brand and the people behind it. With the arrival of a new owner, we anticipate a smooth transition as we are committed to continuity.” Egelston stressed the company is open and will conduct business as usual.

“Smuttynose’s strength lies in their dedicated and engaged employees” said Gov. Chris Sununu. “They have been a strong and reliable community partner throughout the years, and I hope the new owners, once determined, will appreciate their hard-working employee base by committing to keeping these manufacturing jobs in New Hampshire.”

I can imagine some rough years ahead for many breweries as the market is saturated beyond belief

Odd Side has really stepped up the last couple years. They might be doing the best overall work in Michigan. Their Falconer SMASH DIPA was really good and Hipster Brunch Rye can go up against any BA beer out there. I remember a couple years ago thinking Odd Side sucked and avoiding almost all of their beers.

I don't follow this thread regularly, so it has probably already been discussed, but I am currently drinking a Delirium Nocturnum Belgian Ale...fantastic!  Love it.

Triple Barrel Baptist. Very good.

Put our 16 yo dog down last night. Found out today our 14 yo has aggressive cancer....Moving onto a BCBS...

Just had a couple of sours from Inoculum Ale Works in Spring Hill, FL.  They’re a sour only brewery and will have a tasting room in St. Pete soon.  So freaking good.

Canned beer makes its debut on this day in 1935. In partnership with the American Can Company, the Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company delivered 2,000 cans of Krueger’s Finest Beer and Krueger’s Cream Ale to faithful Krueger drinkers in Richmond, Virginia. Canned beer was an immediate success. Ninety-one percent of the drinkers approved of the canned beer, driving Krueger to give the green light to further production. By the end of the year, 37 breweries follow the lead of the Gottfried Krueger Brewery.

Lawson’s Finest Liquids Sip of Sunshine, can’t believe I can now get this at my local store in RI thanks to their partnership with Two Roads. ### #### this is good beer, better than Heady Topper IMO.

Speaking of Heady above, drinking one now.

Asked my cousin if he could grab me some when he was up in the Burlington VT area. I was expecting one 4-pack, but he bought me 4. I’ll have to persevere and drink it.

Last night:

Ellipsis Brewing's Y Cant IBU Pale Ale (fantastic) and How Rude! IPA (very good)

Also had a bottle of Calusa's In The Between, a BA sour amber ale with an absurd amount of boysenberries...super tart with tons of jammy fruit. Absolutely delicious.

Heading to the Kumquat Festival in Dade City in a bit...were going because our favorite food truck is there, and after we eat and walk around a bit were gonna head a few miles down the road and check out Zephyrhills Brewing Co. Im expecting some very MEH beer.

Ive yet to try any of their beer but have heard good things. I didnt know theyre opening a tasting room in St Pete...any idea where?

Also, another new brewery is opening in a few months in downtown St Pete called Overflow Brewing, they do some great berliners...Im friends with the couple who is opening it...hes currently the head brewer at Rapp in Seminole, so the beer will good, no question. Keep an eye out for them.

Love Odd side, they make some of my favorite beers-- Mayan mocha stout, bean flicker blonde, Hazel's nuts, morning wood. If you've only had their beer from a bottle it's so much better and often different from the tap.

Not sure where it’s going, but looking forward to it.

I’m at Cycle Brewing in St. Pete right now having a good sour.  Electric Boots.  Looks like they have 22 oz bottles of Together for Togetherness.  It’s a blend of oak aged sours.  Might have to take one home.

ETA:  Bought one

It’s warm January day in Iowa so I’ve been doing yard work. Now I’m sitting by a fire having an I Love You With My Stout from Evil Twin.

Had a Union Series #6 Imperial Russian Stout from Summit earlier. Also pretty good.

Had Mikerphone Smells like bean spirit Decadent last night. Very good. Probably went overboard with all the coffee and chocolate as it was a slow drink, but still very tasty

At Zephyrhills brewing earlier I had an IPA, 2 Pale Ales, and a Berliner. The Berliner was awesome, one pale ale was good, the rest were meh. So, I was pleasantly surprised.

As for Space Dust smelling like weed, try a single hop Simcoe or Mosaic IPA or APA...thats where the cat pee is. Lol

Two 4.5lbs pork shoukders are rubbed and ready for the smoker in the morning, finishing sauce standing by. All slaw and baked bean ingredients are prepped and ready for mixing. Also freshly squeezed my citrus and made simple syrup for whiskey sours. Tomorrow should be pretty easy. Thanks fbgs for the help.

Untitled Art (Waunakee, WI) BlackBerry Berliner and Hazelnut Imperial stout. These guys came out of nowhere and are great. All the beers are collabs...the Hazelnut stout is a Mikerphone collab (and is fantastic)...the BB is with Forager Brewery (delicious and insane color)...They have a Mango Milkshake (collab with Pulpit Rock in Decorah, IA) I'm dying to find. They also have a Waffle stout I havent tried.
