I have become a big fan of guiness mixed with pecan whiskey.
Only came up with it because regular guiness kind of blows, but I love the other three stouts in the 200 year anniversary pack. So i tried it one night.
Revel stoke pecan in a crappy dark beer is amazing. Tested with several others.
Draw the line at boatswain double stout from trader joes though. Worst beer ever. Wouldnt even try braising pork with that crap.
Alright, did my lab research last night (well, started yesterday afternoon).
My flavored liquor is pretty much limited to vodka. Here's the results;
Guinness with;
Rasberry Vodka: This actually was better than I expected. Like a dark chocolate covered fruit.
.... reminded me of
Sam Smiths Organic Cherry Stout which is very delicious ... But personally I'm not a big fan of fruit beer.
Pecan Pie Vodka: Gave it a nutty vibe that was interesting. Flavor was very subtle compared to the other options. Was just ok.
Salted Carmel Vodka: Added a sweetness that was pleasant but not super. Almost too sweet. Like drinking a liquefied Milky Way.
Vanilla Vodka: Ok, now we have something. This was an excellent match adding the right amount of sweetness and an enjoyable flavor that didn't take away from the stout. Vanilla porters and stouts are pretty common for this reason I suppose. I will definitely add this one to my cocktail menu.
Coconut Vodka: Ding, Ding! ... We have a winner. Maybe it's just me but the sweet coconut and the coffee / chocolate of the stout is a match made in heaven.
Enjoyed this with a Guinness Milk Stout that is a bit more flavorful than the standard. A homemade
Oskar Blues - Death by Coconut if you will. (which is very difficult to locate here in the Northeast ...yet also happens to be in my beer fridge right now). Soooooo good.
... and needless to say, I was pretty wrecked by the end of my research here. The wife put me to bed at 8pm ... lol.
Thanks for the tip Para, I would have never thought to try this without your suggestion.
... and as an added bonus, this could save me $ since 3 or 4 cheaper beers now seem to get the job done ... vs 6 or 8 high ABV $$$!
