What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

I'm not a fan of the "boozy" Imperial stouts so I don't think that I'd be a fan of adding more octane to my stout...

but a flavored whiskey might be right in my wheelhouse. ... and I do like pecan flavor.  :oldunsure:
Thats what is nice about guiness. Low abv and then just a tiny bit of booze. I dont drink imperial stouts either. Just gave away a couple bourbon counties from a few years ago since we never drank em.

Yesterday's score as described by the brewer Transient, "ONE MILLION EIGHT HUNDRED AND SEVENTY THOUSAND MILLION
Imperial Corn Stout with Macadamia Nuts and Violet Sky Chocolate, Aged in Henry McKenna barrels for 12 months, Collaboration with Hailstorm, Phase Three, Milk Money, Barn Town, Flesk, Work Force, 12.25%, $17 after tax/dep".
Sublime sipper!

I have become a big fan of guiness mixed with pecan whiskey.

Only came up with it because regular guiness kind of blows, but I love the other three stouts in the 200 year anniversary pack. So i tried it one night.

Revel stoke pecan in a crappy dark beer is amazing. Tested with several others.

Draw the line at boatswain double stout from trader joes though. Worst beer ever. Wouldnt even try braising pork with that crap.
Alright, did my lab research last night (well, started yesterday afternoon).

My flavored liquor is pretty much limited to vodka. Here's the results;

Guinness with;

Rasberry Vodka: This actually was better than I expected. Like a dark chocolate covered fruit.

.... reminded me of Sam Smiths Organic Cherry Stout which is very delicious ... But personally I'm not a big fan of fruit beer.

Pecan Pie Vodka: Gave it a nutty vibe that was interesting. Flavor was very subtle compared to the other options. Was just ok.

Salted Carmel Vodka: Added a sweetness that was pleasant but not super. Almost too sweet. Like drinking a liquefied Milky Way.

Vanilla Vodka: Ok, now we have something. This was an excellent match adding the right amount of sweetness and an enjoyable flavor that didn't take away from the stout. Vanilla porters and stouts are pretty common for this reason I suppose. I will definitely add this one to my cocktail menu.

Coconut Vodka: Ding, Ding! ... We have a winner. Maybe it's just me but the sweet coconut and the coffee / chocolate of the stout is a match made in heaven.

Enjoyed this with a Guinness Milk Stout that is a bit more flavorful than the standard. A homemade Oskar Blues - Death by Coconut if you will. (which is very difficult to locate here in the Northeast ...yet also happens to be in my beer fridge right now). Soooooo good.

... and needless to say, I was pretty wrecked by the end of my research here. The wife put me to bed at 8pm ... lol.

Thanks for the tip Para, I would have never thought to try this without your suggestion.

... and as an added bonus, this could save me $ since 3 or 4 cheaper beers now seem to get the job done ... vs 6 or 8 high ABV $$$!

I have never tried this.  Sounds good.

So I am a big fan of flavored whiskey.  My drinking routine normally starts out with a few flavored whisky on the rocks before i go to beer.  My favorites are Wild Turkey American Honey and Drambuie.  For the first time this weekend I tried Old Camp peach pecan and I thought it was excellent.  I didn't realize anyone made just pecan flavored whiskey.  That sounds really good.

Thanks for letting me know it exists.  I'll keep an eye out for it.  And if I ever happen to be in a situation where I have both a stout beer and pecan whiskey i'll definitely give it a try.

Have you tried Screwball whiskey?

Have you tried Screwball whiskey?
No I haven't.  So our liquor stores are kind of in partial lock down in PA.  They closed the 'state stores' as we call them, and in Pennsylvania these are the only stores where you can buy liquor.  They closed at the beginning of this outbreak sometime in late March.

Pennsylvania eventually started letting people order online.  Unfortunately they only left a select few people on the website each day to order so they didn't get overwhelmed with orders.  They actually said it was kind of like hitting the lottery if you got through to order on the website. And when you did get on the site it was limited to 6 bottles.  Also, you did not have full access to everything, it was a limited selection.

Well last Monday I hit the lottery.  I got through on the website.  I was ordering for myself and some relatives.  I had 2 bottles I could order for me.  My favorite 2 whiskey's were not available but they did have a few other honey whiskeys.  I got Jack Daniels Honey.  I've had it before and it is not much different from the Wild Turkey.  Both excellent.  I had another bottle to order and that is how I ended up trying the Old Camp Peach Pecan which I was pleasantly surprised with.

So when I was looking for a 2nd bottle to order I wasn't sure what to get and I wanted to try something new.  I saw that Screwball whiskey and was really really close to giving it a try but I went with the Old Camp instead.  Mainly because I am a fan of FL GA line and just saw a clip of them on CMT and one of their members was holding a bottle of the Old Camp.  I thought the Screwball sounded interesting though.  Do you recommend it?  I would definitely be up for trying it.

agree

sad, because it is so readily available
It's not a bad beer but it isn't what they claim. It's supposed to be  NEIPA influenced and it tastes like they added some lemon lime to their normal Stone IPA and mailed it in. There's no haze and no juice. It's as much a NEIPA as Chipotle is a Mexican restaurant.

Block 15 Mexican Lager - holy #### this is great with a lime and in this hot weather.  Mid 80s out here all through the weekend.

Southern Brewing and Winery Black and Blue Berliner (crowler). Blueberry and with a hint of black pepper. It’s pretty good. This place makes some good stuff.

7venth Sun Patience and Virtues. It’s a hibiscus and pink peppercorn Berliner. It’s better than the Black and Blue Berliner I had yesterday.

Sip of sunshine canned at 8:37 pm on Monday.  Quite a find here in pa.  Did a double take.

Lucky man!  I have to rely on my son in VT to have access to these fine liquids.  Hopefully they will be distributed to the Midwest in the near future!

Last week I had a friend that passed away and a small group of us got together, I went to the basement and pulled out some beers to share.  Drank the following: 2012 White Chocolate, 2007 Bourbon County Stout, and a Bourbon County Cherry Rye.  The White Chocolate was by far the favorite.

Coppertail Tropical Foeder. A nice funky foeder that’s easy drinking with some tropical fruit notes. Good stuff.
