What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Saw a couple posts about people not being able to get Hair of the Dog and Rogue XS (ceramic bottles). I can and might be willing to trade. PM if interested.
Maybe in a few weeks. I've got so many trades going right now that I can't keep track of them all.
same here

I wish the beer I've sent out would arrive so I can stop thinking about it.

I can get Firestone too, but haven't tried any of the medal winners.  I've just had Firestone Double Barrel on tap and wasn't all that impressed.
Agreed
Did you try the ESB or the Amber?Funny....their IPA only has 2 reviews over at BA (score of "4"), and the Pale Ale has a 3.74 rating (48 reviews)

Hmmmm....
I've had the pale ale. Haven't seen the IPA
How was it? I gotta call BS on some of the winners...No Bear Republic, Alesmith, etc?? Who was judging this thing?
The problem with Bear Repbulic is that their best known beers are in really crowded categories. Racer is excellent beer, one of the best IPAs around, but it's hard to argue with the results when two of the three medals in the IPA category were won by Russian River and Stone.

Agreed. I want to stop thinking about it and start drinking it.

I was j/k, I love that emoticon.

The other problem with the competition is that they are judging the beers against a style standard. The winners are not necessarily the best tasting beers, they are the best beers that represent a specific standard.

After work tonight, Ill be sampling a Sierra Nevada Summerfest, Sierra Nevada IPA, and then maybe a St Louis Framboise. All new to me.

Well, I'm taking off right now on a whirlwind beer store and brew pub tour to check out a few new places in the Sacramento area. Hoping to see some brews that I haven't been able to find at BevMo. Also stopping by a brewpub to check some samples to see if they qualify for BIF.

Will report back on my findings. Wish me luck.

I can't wait for Stone's vertical epic this year. Because of the date it should be something special (666). I wouldn't be suprised if its a Belgian style triple based around the devil styles (Duvel, etc).

Also heading out to sample tonight. Going to check out Brew Bakers and see if they even bottle.

But no beer yet.

just got back from the grocery/liquor store.

turns out that since i was last there (about 2 weeks) ago.. they've added the new Capital Brewery Island Wheat, several of Bell's offerings, the Founders Centennial, Red Rye and one other.. a couple Victory (including the Hop Devil) and 2-3 beers that i'm considering sending in the BIF!

Live about 2 hours from the brewery.Went down that aways for a wedding last fall.

At the reception, they had both the Double Barrel (which is often a feature tap locally), and the Pale.

I agree that the DB is good, but not extraordinary.

The Pale on the other hand, IS awesome.

I remember being pretty blown away.

Haven't seen it up here.

Might have to hit up my nephew who lives in Paso, or better yet, pay him a visit!

Haven't seen or tried the IPA.

Okay, the visit might happen sooner, than later.

I'm, sure Dickey Moe (SLO boy - where they have a second brewpub) has tried all of the above.

Monterey Peninsula.

Well, got back from my beer trip. Didn't pick up a whole lot, as I am already fairly stocked, but I did buy a sixer of Firestone Pale Ale. Got one chilling now and will report back with pics after it is poured.

Humuna, I found it at Bevmo. If you have one close, check there.

444 was a tripel. I doubt they'll do it again so close.

True enough. Would be fitting though. Found this quote on another site.

During our visit, Koch was prepping the label for the 06.06.06 Vertical Epic, and let us in on the work-in-progress: "I'm already reading it again and going ehh. But here goes. ‘I love the smell of anise in the morning, especially when there is a lightly toasty and mysteriously spicy scent in the air to complement it. And a breeze carries the scent of a far-off cedar grove.' [laughing] Yeah, that's getting a little flowery."

There's nothing wrong with drinking a beer at 3pm on a Saturday, is there?

Anyway, here a shot of the Firestone Pale Ale

Very, very good Pale Ale here folks. It is a lot like Sierra, in that it is very well hopped (Cascade, almost certainly), but it has a stonger malt base to go along with it. I would stop short of saying that it is better than SNPA, but it is on the same level. The good way to describe it would be "IPA light". It shares many of those characteristics.

I wish some of you turds would post more beer photos. I love looking at them, even when they are my own.
Just got back from Bevmo & bought a whole pile of beers. I'll post a lineup in a few.

And here's the lineup. I'm going to start with the Ballast Point IPA.
You can get some really good beers. Haven't seen the HopTown Breakfast Stout, but I have a couple of bombers of the Old Yestsin Imperial right now. Also can't get AleSmith (obviously), Ballast Point, and whatever the hell that beer on the left is.You went for the Big Sky tour, I see. All of them are OK, though none great, IMO.

What Drake's is that? I can't read it.

Its Drake's Imperial Stout. The beer on the left is by Bayhawk, its a fairly local brewery (Orange county). Its their chocolate porter. Hoping to find a diamond in the rough that I can send out in the BIF.

The beer to the right of the two Allagash is Farmhouse Oasthouse IPA. Never seen or heard of it before.

Legend Imperial Brown Ale
The brewery looks like they make some pretty good beers. They get good reviews.
I love them. They have a nice little brewpub in a shady section of town but it's well worth the trip. Their beer is unpasteurized so they really can't ship their beer too far away. In town they use small refrigerated trucks for delivery.
