What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

Ah ####...2010 KBS has been released?ISOseriously
Yes, it has been released, most places are likely sold out. Last week was an expensive weekend for me, many KBS and Dark Lord tickets. My buddy's bar was able to obtain a case of KBs and a sixtel of KBS, which they tapped last Friday, I ended up have 3 Friday evening as well.I was just able to obtain some Flower Power that you pine about. I made a trade with someone from Massachusetts, a 6 pack of Flower Power for a 6 pack of Gumballhead.

Wonder how fresh the FP is - it's sensational when fresh.I still have like...1 or 2 of the 2010 KBS. Missed the 2010 "trade deadline" so to speak, apparently. I've been in a major beer purchase lull...probably spent like $150 total so far this year...that's it.

Heading up to this taplist later. Was there last night too

# Russian River

* Aud Blonde

* Blind Pig IPA

* Compunction

* Consecration

* Damnation

* Dead Leaf Green

* Mortification

* Perdition

* Pliny the Elder

* Redemption

* Rejection

* Russian River IPA

* Salvation

* Sanctification

* Temptation
Promo at a local bar next Saturday with at least the bolded as well as the younger. Opens at 10:30 am. Should I be waiting outside at 10:15?
Depends on your beer scene. Last couple times Younger has been around here I heard it was pretty mellow (I was out of town). The hype train is on fumes. That said, it is a hell of a beer and definitely worth a 15 min wait. When it first came out people were lining up for over an hr.

5 person tasting last night. Had:

Improvacion

Abacus

Last year's KBS

'07 Abyss

Cantillon Rose De Gambrinus

Alaskan IIPA

Bridgeport Stumptown Tart

'07 Winter Yule Smith

Melange 3

'08 Curiex

Enjoying a Southern Tier 2X IPA. I never had that as ST isn't too common in Michigan. Great beer for the price. $10.99 is about $7 cheaper than the typical high quality double IPA sixer.

I have never been able to get into this one.
Really? I thought it was good enough for the price. I can name 5 or 6 better Double IPAs from Michigan alone, but that price difference is significant.Also, what do you recommend from Southern Tier?

To be honest....not much. They're local, so I can get them pretty much wherever I want, and I rarely drink it. Their beers have gotten progressively sweeter over the last few years....almost seems like a case of "too big too fast" to me. Their IPA used to be my go-to, and I can't remember if I've even bought one in the last year....I'm just a little biased here :mellow:Unearthly is a good IPA, and I do occasionally get some Oat or Choklat. Do you get the 22 oz bottles or just the 12 oz?

My local store just had the 12 ozs. There is a mega beer store a little further away that likely has the 22 oz. However, it sounds like you aren't really saying it is worth the trip. Half the time I go, I get overwhelmed by all the choices and just end up getting my go-to local beers anyway.

Trust me, I'm a big fan of the "local" beers and prefer to drink local, but Southern Tier is just very underwhelming for me. That's not to say that they don't have some good beers...I can't remember the last time I bought a 6-pack of their 12 oz series though. They have some 22 oz's that are worth it...the price is kinda high on em though.

I love Chokolat and Oat from Southern Tier. Also like Creme Brulee a lot for what it is (a dessert to share with a few people).

I really liked Iniquity when I had that as well. The rest of their stuff I had was fine. Not bad, but not worth seeking out.

I don't dislike the Creme Brulee, but I can't stomach a full 22 oz of it.

Sierra Nevada Glissade right now, last night I had a Big Hoppy Monster & Hop Karma Brown IPA from Terrapin, both very good. Really liked the Brown IPA.

Tonight I had a couple Summit Gold Sovereign Ales, A Stone Levitation Ale and a 22 oz. Stone IPA. First time having Stone as it was just released in Minnesota this week.
Unfortuantely for Wisconsin a few months ago Stone pulled its distribution then to top it off two weeks ago Dogfish Head pulled distribution as well. Hopefully we can someone new (Deschuetes, Great Divide, etc.) to replace them.

Spending a week or so in Germany and got in this morning. Had a few Radeberger Pilsner with dinner. Not bad, a typical German pilsner. Going to try and seek out some more regional favorites this week (Frankfurt area).

I've been liking the Southern Tier range. Im sort of new to it though. The 2x IPA, the Imperial IPA, the lager with the red, white and blue label (Matt and Phil's? or something like that).Last night: Palm. A nice, very drinkable amber Belgian. Perfect with a higher-end burger. And one of the rare Belgians that I prefer cold. All but Palm go into the beer fridge for a 55 degree extended stay.

Phin and Matt's. I don't hate Southern Tier, I just don't think they're as good as they used to be. I'm sure that part of it is because it's "local" and I have tried everything they offer and can get it at most bottle shops.

I'm headed to a buddy's house later this week for mexican food. What kind of beer goes good with carne asada? I'm dropping by BevMo before the dinner and could use some ideas.

Also, any opinions on Woodchuck cider?

I'm a fan of the bolded. If you love hops you'll like the Avery, GF IIPA, and the Hophead. I'd probably drink them in reverse of that order...

Mephistopheles is very interesting. Think its like 16%. They call it a stout, but that is stretching it. I did like it when I had it a couple years ago. I have one more I am sitting on that'll probably let age for a few years.

Underrated beer....I do like this one.
Oh good, grabbed sixer today. Also, sipped some Big Sky Moose Drool and Lagunitas Little Sumpin Ale. I had never had either brand before, but the local pub is now carrying them. Good stuff.
Lagunitas has a very wide distribution, they're widely available here. Some folks think they're a little "too big", but I've never had a bad beer from them. Plenty of quality offerings...big fan of Brown Shugga myself.
