What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

What ####### guy at rogue thought that chipolte ale was a good idea?
A lot of breweries are messing around with pepper beer. Some people like it. I LOVE spicy, but not in my beer. I've tried a bunch. Always glad to have a sip, but would never want a full pour of one. I could do a glass of the Chocolate-Chipotle Black Marlin I had from Ballast Point actually.

Sorry if this has been asked but has anyone tried the Costco brand beers?

Also opted for the Sam Adams Summer style pack dor UFC 130!

Coors light at lunch. Two keystrokes , two miller lite, three shiners working in the yard. Just grabbed another 12 stones.

Yeah, they're ok at best. I did just get a Sam Adams sampler at Costco this week. Has 3 beers from Sam that I've never had. Drinking the "East-West Kolsch" right now. Tasty.

Picked this up also, pretty damn good 12 pack for my tastes. The Saison was good, the aforementioned Kolsch was awesome and I liked the Summer Ale was good as well. I'm madly in love with the Latitude 48, the two worst beers might be their regular and light Boston Lagers. Nice job by Sam Adams

You are the 3rd person to say something good about the Sam Adams Saison. Is sour or pretty mild? I am drinking a New Holland Gold Cap Saison right now. It's good, but maybe a little to sweet. Seems more like an intro to Saison.

These are my choices at the local independent baseball team where I'm a season ticket holder:

Coors Light

Miller Light

Blue Moon

Summer Shandy

Fosters

Narragansett

Talk about crap choices. Just give me one non-crap choice for the love of God! I'll pay extra!

It's funny. I go to winter, season ticket holder meetings. They said they were going to step it up this year after having a bad year last year financially. During these meetings I always brought up the beer selection. The Pres said he'd introduce me to the new food and beverage manager and I'd get something I liked (Sierra Nevada would be fine). So I met him. I asked if he could get Sierra Nevada in there. He said it's a Pepsi product. No, Sierra Nevada not Sierra Mist. I knew I was in trouble. Anyway, he said that the beer choices were already made before he even got there. So I'm not sure why they made it seem there was some flexibility there. So, I show up at the first game of the year hoping to at least see a Sam Adams on the menu. Nope. Same exact beer selection as last year (same as above). One of the front office guys came up to me and asked if the beer selection was to my liking. I lied and said it was delicious. IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME CRAP AS LAST YEAR!!!!!!!!!

Oh well, it's just beer right? I'm not going to hassle them over it. They are trying to right the ship and I know, for most people, those crap beers will be just fine.

Sour, at first I thought it was a mild representation but about halfway through I had a much different opinion. I'm not a fan of the style so I haven't had a lot of them but from I have had it compared favorably with the high dollar crafts I've tried. It's certainly worth a try IMO.

A friend of mine started brewing his own a couple of months ago. He gave me a 6 pack of an IPA he did.

Holy smokes it is delicious! He says it costs him about $1.50 per six pack to make. About 45 beers per batch.

I liked it, although it's not a style I drink too often. I was surprised at how nutty it was, especially the nose. It might have been because I was switching from more of a belgian brown in the St. Botolph's....my palate tends to have trouble with coffee beers in particular when I switch between styles in one session. If I'm going coffee stout/coffee porter, I have to stick with it the whole night for some reason. Maybe nut browns are the same.I think I'll get a better feel for it when I sit down and have a few in a night to really get into it. Good thing I have 5 more! I had to trade with a guy in Alabama for it (part of my Sexual Chocolate trade).

Took me a while to get into the sours also. Actually, I think the one that helped me turn the corner was Bake's 10 Year Lambic :banned:

 a lot of people don't like sours.
I took it to mean he didn't like saisons...eta - I cut out his previous comments about the saisons that preceded that one. I'm not really a huge huge fan of sours myself...I think they tend to be a bit overpriced...but I'm also cheap.

Lagunitas Wilco Tango Foxtrot

I see a few others have enjoyed it here. With a limited selection today it seemed to be the best bet for a new malty beer. My garage fridge is very cold so I should let this breathe a little but... wtf...

Sniff

Sweet boozey nose with some caramel and for me -- strong black coffee -- and some bitter hops, uh oh.

Look

Lovely dark brown and silky with amber in the lights. Rich dense cream to tan head.

Taste

Not exciting, but nice and smooth, no skunky hops like I feared, but nothing particularly outstanding. A bit thinner than I expected.

Someone said it would improve as it warms up, so I'll take my time.

I'll probably try a double ******* tomorrow night.

Have you tried Bell's Third Coast Ale? I had one tonight. I think it is in the American strong ale or American barleywine category - whatever, it is a great option when you are in the mood for a high abv malty beer. I dig the Lagunitas WTF as well, but it is not in the same category imo.

first one? also, if you're interested in reviewing TBS has a solid rating setup. :banned:
Yes, I have never had a double ******* and I remember when Stone was two guys and a van hitting the local restaraunts. I drank several of the very first lot of Arrogant bottled, loved it, but have grown up to hate bitter hops. I've tired of Stone and purposely been avoiding them, but the Double Bas sounded like a possibility to what I am seeking. I've never heard of TBS in regards to beer, but I always read rate beer before trying something new and was just messing with the format above.

Never tried Bell's TCA, but I am on a malty beer mission so I will look for it. Thanks for the tip. The WTF definitely improved steadily on its way to room temp. The flavors ended up being great. A small bit of that may have been the gentle buzz from the first 12 oz making the next 10 better. ha. It stayed thin and I'm looking for something with a little more substance. I can do better but happy to have had it.

I didn't really get into Shorts until about a year ago. I have never had any problems with their beers going bad. They are growing very fast in MI right now.

So I'm going to go shopping for something here in a bit, supporting the local Korean liquor store owner who is trying to stock up on the good stuff. I considered the Double ******* last time, but didn't get it. Now I have to decide between in Green Flash Barleywine and Chimay Grand Reserve.

Cigar City Bolita Double Brown - I may have a new favorite beer

Russian River Consecration. Question; Are all sours have a wine taste to them; Don't like wine and the couple of sours I have tried don't work for me??

No. That one is aged in Cab barrels. What other ones have you had?

Had New Glarus Red (just saw that it is technically a fruit beer) and found it the same as the Consecration; Have NB Lafolie to try next; So there is hope with sour ales for non wine guys?

It took me a long time to get into sours, and even then, I don't drink as many as a lot of people. I had good success starting off with krieks and other fruity lambics before moving into the more traditional sours.
