Community Beer Works IPA

New Glarus Saison

got some Victory Dark Intrigue waiting...plus some new Great Lakes Blackout and some Celebration

Just dumped 2 cases of my beautiful strong brown ale due to an infection -

drowning my sorrows in a 750 of Kasteel Donker I've had for a few years ...

Sebowski > If you're a fan of smoked beers, Pizza Port has a Ballast Point smoked beer on tap right now that is ####### fantastic. I had 3 Tuesday night.

Smokescreen. Yes. Great beer. I was at Port Monday and Wednesday.Walk up the street to The Harp. They have my all time favorite beer on right now. Alpine Nelson. No other IPA like it.

I'll have to try that. Harp often has Alpine Pure Hoppiness on tap as well. Great IPA.Stopped by Ballast Point's Home Brew store over in the Morena area on the way home from work tonight. That place is beer nerd utopia. Filled up my growler with Smokescreen. Love this brew.

Shorts Good Humans Double Hopped Brown Ale, Big Sky Moose Drool, and Goose Island Bourbon County Stout for later for the Cotto fight.

I have a 2011 BC Coffee Stout in the fridge. Should I be drinking this sooner rather than later or will it be ok with some age?

I thought the bottles have on them that they will be best when aged up to 5 years. I have some 2007 Bourbon County still cellared, not sure when I will open them up.

My rule is: age big beers, drink smaller beers fresh. That one is a big one (double digit abv). I think it says on the bottle it can be aged 5 years.

You'll lose a lot of the coffee flavor with aging, but otherwise it will hold up well.

I think it says you can age it for 5 years, not necessarily that it's best if you do. I think I still have an 07 as well.I had a BCS Coffee not long ago, it was alright but as TT said, a lot of the coffee had faded. I can't recall if I was drinking 2011 or maybe 2010 (did they bottle it in 10? It was the first bottling, IIRC, we haven't gotten it on the shelf since).

My rule: Drink any beer fresh first before aging.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Meh.About the only thing I saw at the supermarket that looked decent.
Could be old if it doesn't taste all that great.
It's Sierra Nevada. That's why it doesn't taste all that great.
Sierra Nevada makes some pretty good beer.
Oh it's good but it's nothing to write home about.

Yeah, I'm really at the point where I don't age anything. Number one rule is: beer is meant to be in my belly. The other rule I'm talking about beers/beer styles I know could possibly use some taming like Old Ales and Barleywines. And I hardly ever buy those so...Think the only beer I've intentionally aged more than a few months in the last few years was the Samichlaus I held onto.

Obviously it's a matter of personal taste, but for me Sierra Nevada is the best American brewery and one to which all beer geeks enjoying the current unprecedented golden age of American beer owe a huge debt of gratitude. It's one thing to sell $12 bombers to a limited local market, which many great brewers do every day across the country. I just bought a case of Celebration, one of the very few best American ipa's money can buy, imo, in Milwaukee WI for a buck a bottle. That is a great accomplishment any way you look at it. Their lineup is very good to great, top to bottom in my opinion. The legendary pale ale, torpedo, tumbler, big foot, narwhal, ruthless rye, all great beers. The summerfest is probably the only one I've found to be disappointing,
