What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Again, depends on how much effort it would take. I wouldn't say it is a "beer to drink before you die" quality, but Three Floyds does wonders with hops. Alpha King, Arctic Panzer (my favorite), and Dreadnaught are all top class beers too malty.
#westcoastticker ;)
I'm done ticking. Just Alpine and Pizza Port and whatever madness I've accumulated over the years. That's it.

Back on topic:

Pizza Port Coco Loco (coconut milk stout on nitro)

Pizza Port T-Rex (Mango Kiwi DIPA)

Pizza Port Off the Chain DIPA

Pizza Port Eukaryst (Imperial Stout)

…and now back at home drinking a 2 year old Cold Smoke Javit sent me, oh, I guess around 2 years ago.

I'm happy with an IPA that has balance.
That's a shame.

There is a reason a beer like Zombie Dust is such a quick seller in the mid west. It is because it is brewed like a San Diego IPA. No crystal malt. Just focus on the hops and drink it fresh (old Zombie Dust is terrible). Hill Farmstead caught on. Heady Topper is trying. I hear Pipeworks might be doing it (never had any).

I brewed my first batch of beer at home today. I'm doing an imperial IPA with galaxy, citra, chinook, Columbus, cascade, and centennial hops. I'm hoping that it will have lots of big juicy tropical citrus hop flavors. I think the brew went smoothly without a hitch today, but I guess I'll find out in a few weeks. I really enjoyed it doing it and am looking forward to the new hobby.
All grain?pe)pe
No. We used liquid malt extract, but also steeped 2 pounds of grains prior to the boil.
Cool. I've done some all extract brews but have never been really pleased with the results. They're drinkable but, frankly, not really all that good. When I do get back into it (sometime soon, I hope), I'm going all grain.Hope it turns out well for you
Yeah, I'm sure we will work our way up to all grain brews eventually. I'm hoping that steeping the grains will be an upgrade over all liquid malt extract brews.
Nice. My homebrew group broke up and I never got going on my own. Too much to drink already…

DIPAs might be the hardest thing to brew. Yeast is a fragile beast. You start getting fermentation down and you'll be golden. I've made some kick ### partial mash beers (extract plus steep), and I've made some ####ty ones. All the ####ty ones were due to yeast issues. It is so easy to get carried away and try to brew your wildest imaginations, but I reccomend next time trying a simple classic style and see if you can nail it. Then again, if this DIPA comes out awesome brew the exact same thing again. If it comes out close to the same then you'll know your process is good. Then you can start ####### around. Think of it a little like you have to crawl before you can walk.

I've been brewing for about three years, went all-grain two years ago, and I still prefer to do very simple beers. I'm bottling a smash (Vienna + Hallertau) today, and probably every other batch I brew is a very simple ale - pale, amber, brown. That said, a double IPA is not all that difficult to brew, but very difficult to create one that is anywhere near as good as the multitude of great craft ipa's available these days. Using six different hops as stated above is a very difficult thing to get right. But there's no reason not to try it out. I've got friends that have made excellent extract IPAs. I do cringe a bit when I hear a new home brewer say he's doing a rum oaked cacao double vanilla quad bock 100% brett aged on imported cherries then iced and soured. I love the ambition though, and it's been a great hobby for me.

How were the TRex and Off the Chain?

I have a hard time not going Surf Check - had a couple Tuesday night and had to give the keys to wifey.

They are both great, but Surf Check is better. Different beasts though. TRex and Chain are dryer. TRex has a great fruity nose. Surf Check at 9.8 is going to be a bit thicker and that dankness is unparalleled. Damn. I'm getting thirsty. Good thing I have Surf Check on tap at work!

ETA: and you still owe me a beer!

How much trouble will it be to find it? It's a very very good beer but not something I'd go like an hour out of my way for.
A matter of trying to get one of my local bottle shops to hold a sixer for me, so it shouldn't be too bad. But not something I typically do. One of my shops should have some Weds but will likely be out in a few hours.
If Munster isn't that far from you, I think it's worth the trip out to the brewery. Food is really good.
Might be doing a run out there end of March with a buddy of mine. Should be about an hourish drive.

I love any of their IPA or DIPA that I have tried. I like any of the vs Unicorn and the Ninjas I have tried are excellent as well.

You work at PPort? I'm there every Tuesday.

Any Chicago guys try Forbidden Root brewery? They might be building their brew pub in the same neighborhood my buddy lives in.

You here? I'm a 6"4 brotha in a white golf shirt and slacks.

West 6th: simcoe ipa, ipa, lemongrass wheat, cocoa porter, Belgian pa, belgian ipa

Blue stallion- dunkel, pilsner, and 3 others I can't remember

I had Firestone Walker's Sucuba bourbon barrel-aged barleywine (2013) tonight. It was phenomenal. The best barleywine I've ever had.

Yeah, that thing is incredible. FW knows to to barrel age a freaking beer.
This past year, one of my local liquor stores had a Christmas gift package that was a crate of barrel-aged FW releases (Parabola, Velvet Merkin, FW 17, Sucuba, and Double DBA) and two FW snifters for $99. It was the best Christmas gift I've ever bought myself.

They should. One of two breweries left that actually ferments beer in barrels. They have a lot more experience than the other guys.

Went to Yardhouse to celebrate a bit, had a Anderson Valley Huge Arker bourbon barrel (Wild Turkey) Imperial Stout 13.5%

Had a short and then the bartender who I knew decided to pour me a full pint on top

I am feeling it now. I drank those a few hours ago, feel like I got run over. I haven't had a beer that strong since the Brooklyn BCS at Christmas and that's still just 10%.

Bell's Two Hearted and Hop Slam

I've never seen it in my area so I asked the guy if I should get it while I can or if it will be a regular. He said he can't make any guarantees, so I bought a six of both.

I've had Two-Hearted on tap (I think in Baltimore) but never had Hop Slam.

psyched!

Any of their Unicorn brews are very good. Just finished a Ninja vs Unicorn. Debating on Lagunitas Sucks or Marilime law and then finish up with a Zombie Dust.

I think Ninja vs Unicorn is my personal favorite, although Jones Dog and Hyper Dog are right up there.

I finally got try a PIpeworks IPA. Simcoe Ninja. I thought it was average to below average for my tastes. It smelled exactly like a FFF DIPA and tasted pretty similar. Too malty for my liking. I'm glad I never got around to trading for some and stuck with my rule of not trading for IPAs. There are just too many good local ones that are better than 90%+ of everything else I've tried.

I haven't had that one so I can't say. However, you do live in a mecca of great IPA, most I haven't been lucky evough to have. I do find it hard to believe that Pipeworks would be disappointing to anyone. Tonight I am trying Liberty Street Emperor Norton Bourbon Barrel Aged, it's their first realease of it, so we shall see. I guess they are calling it Majesty, good but not world class.

Simcoe Ninja isn't their best. Try Citra Ninja, Ninja vs Unicorn, Marlime Law. Those are very good.

Oh, and I am generally against paying that much for bombers when there are so many other more economical choices. That's why I rarely buy Pipeworks even though I know it's usually great.

Quantity vs quality, it can be a tough call when drinking. As I have gotten older, I have definitely moved toward the latter.

Despite being a big fan of Brooklyn Brewery, and it being located only about 20 minutes away by subway, I'd never been there until yesterday when I finally checked it out for a friend's birthday. They had about 10 beers on tap and I was planning on trying as many of their "Brewmaster's Reserves" as I could since they only brew those for a few months.

Started out with their Hammarby Syndrome and never tried any others. It was fantastic. They call it a Swedish Strong Ale and it packed a punch at 8%, which I knew would leave me with a nice headache today after too many but it was worth it.

Supposedly they push out some kegs of these to friendly bars in the area. I'm planning on trying to locate one today, but worth keeping an eye out.

Miller Fortune

I guess it's a premium Miller beer brand. Picked it up on a whim today. It's actually pretty good. Reminds me a bit of Sam Adams, though it's flavored with a hint of bourbon. It's also higher-than-normal alcohol content.

What was the batch number. when the time is right and they drop some stuff off fresh, we'll do an exchange.
