Going to try a New Belgium Biere de Mars. Not expecting much... never had it so I've got to try it once.

It's an interesting beer. I think they deserve credit for that. It's much better than Fat Tire. Bierre de Mars and 1554 are the only two things from New Belgium that I'll drink.The grocery store I stopped at on the way home had a pretty crappy selection, so I'm just drinking Sierra Nevada Pale Ale tonight.

I was in Tucson last weekend picking up a truck to drive back to LA. Heard about a nice liquor store in town called Plaza Liquors so I swung by to see if they had anything I couldn't get at home. Sure glad I did.Loads of beers I couldn't get and quite a few I've never seen.

They had a full supply of Dogfish, Avery, etc. I even found a Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout...one of the beers I've been looking for for quite some time. Thats where I got the Bierre de Mars. Dropped a couple of bills at this place and loaded up the truck. With that and the beer of the month club I got for Christmas, I should be drinking pretty well for a couple of weeks.

Great Divide is rising quickly on my list of favorite breweries. I've never managed to get ahold of the Yetis, but the Titan, St. Bridget's, Hercules Double IPA, and Hibernation are all very good.

Question: Is DFH 60 min supposed to smell like bad weed? Just wondering...

Id say sometimes, yes. For some reason, it seems lately that DFH 60min has not been real consistant. I bought 2 six packs at 2 different stores this month and they tasted different. One was more malty (sweet) that hoppy, and the other was a pure hop bomb. It always has malty sweetness, but in one six pack the hops seemed to disappear.For some reason the bottling date wasnt notched on the labels on either 6 pack, so I have no idea which was fresher, or if they were out of date, or had been light struck or what...

I just asked, because, I've only ever had it from the same case. It was ultra fresh too, the local dsitributor didn't have it for awhile and as soon as they got some I scooped up a case to try. It was ultra ultra ultra hoppy, I just didn't expect it, and after I poured it in a glass it smelled like someone just opened a bag of weed. Not that I would know what that smells like.

My house almost knew what that smelled like. Not sure what I was thinking.

Well after finding out Hops in Lakeland is closed, Ive decided to make the 30 minute trip to Tampa and go to the Tampa Bay Brewing Company brewpub.

I will now get to sample the best beer brewed in Florida. I dont think they sell growlers, but if they do Ill be picking one up.

Just popped the top off a Sierra Nevada IPA. Originally they only had this beer on tap, but now you can get it in bottles. If you are expecting a big hop aroma and taste like you get from a Titan IPA or a Stone IPA, you will be disappointed. Its more earthy and bitter than floral. Seems like they may have been shooting for more of an English style as opposed to the West Coast IPA's. Still very drinkable and it clocks in at 6.9% ABV.I also picked up some Dogfish Head Burton Baton. Its a blend of an oak aged english strong ale and their 90 minute IPA. It's a big beer at 10%. I'll report back after I have tried a bottle.

Debating between one of several big IPAs in the fridge (may go with the Ithaca Double IPA), the St. George's Porter that 3Cs sent in the Beer o' the Month Group #2, or cracking a growler of C. H. Evans/Albany Pump Station Winter Warmer. There are no bad answers. BTW, the Great Divide Yeti is a stellar imprial stout. Seriously tasty.

Now I'm drinking a Great Divide Saint Bridget's Porter. Not bad...great freakin' pillowy head though. Little too sweet.

Trip to the brewpub got cancelled because I forgot Gasparilla was going on in Tampa lSaturday night and I didnt want to deal with the crowds...Tonight Im having a Hazed & Infused by Boulder. I pick up a 6 pack of this stuff every so often. I like it. Nothing spectacular, but a nice change of pace.

I've been drinking several beers from Morland lately - Tanners Jack, and their bottle conditioned ale "Hen's Tooth". Both of these are very good ales, IMO.They also make Old Speckled Hen, but I don't find anything special about that beer.

Both of my normal beer stores have pulled it from the shelves to replace it with Sierra Bigfoot Barlywine Ale. I saw this at the supermarket. I have a feeling it will be my last sixer of the year.

You certainly had a lot to do with it. I remember enjoying it a couple of years ago, but I hadn't seen it in awhile. When my local store replace Ruination with it, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Not that Ruination isn't a great beer, but I've drank a LOT of it and welcomed the change. According to FedEx, your package is in Sacramento. Maybe I'll get it tomorrow.

I tried a Floyds Alpha King last month. Good stuff. I cant get it here either, but Im from Michigan and have a friend there thats gonna start shipping me beer from up there...Im sending him some cash and a shopping list next month. A few on the list so far are Bells Two Hearted Ale and Expedition Stout; Founders Centennial IPA, Breakfast Stout, and Devil Dancer; Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA; New Holland Mad Hatter IPA.

Nice find. Ive never tried any Full Sail beers but I know they have some good ones.

Quite a remarkable little beer town. Although last time I was there they didn't have a beer in town over 5.2% or something like that due to local laws. But I noticed that Highland Brewco has some 8% beers now so maybe things have changed?

Things have definitely changed. Highland has a Scottish ale called Tasgall that is 8%. There is a double IPA from Foothills brewery that is pretty good that is on tap at my local bar. They popped the cap from 6% to 15%, so there are very few beers now that they cannot sell. I'm just waiting for Stone to start to distribute here.

I spent a chunk of the weekend drinking a homebrewed concoction that I called the "mussgoe". As in "I have a lot of ingredients that must go. They are getting old."Its what I'll call a roasted american oatmeal porter.Its based on choco and roasted malts with oats and a good portion 2-row. Mainly American Hops, I can't even remember them right now. The first one was a flavor explosion because I didn't know what to expect. After that is really mellowed and was an enjoyable roasty, hoppy, full-bodied brew.
