What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

I'm going to bump this now, as I expect to have a pretty busy evening in front of me. Mostly in this thread.

Wingnut, what's on tap for this evening?

I think Im gonna start the night with a Drakes, maybe 2, then possibly a *******.

Hey - anyone here have a good beer float recipes??? The local brewpub has a Stout float made with their house made malt ice cream and their stout...I saw someone eating one last time I was there and it looked pretty tasty...Ive also read theres a restaurant in Brooklyn that serves Dogfish Head World Wide Stout milkshakes...

Im thinking Rogue Chocolate stout and some plain ole vanilla ice cream would be good...

Anyone here ever come up with a good ocmbo?
Next best thing:Nectar

I've been planning on making this for so long but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Started with a Southern Tier Old Man Winter ale - hoppy brown thing that went very well with the massive slab o' burger I had for dinner. Followed that up with:

Middle Ages Tenth Anniversary Ale - 10% Double IPA.  Big, hoppy, malty, just a wonderful brew.  Followed THAT up with:

DFH 90 minute IPA - Earthy hoppy malty nose, beautifully balanced fruity hoppy flavor, with little of the fusel alcohol burn I usually get from DFH's bigger brews.  First time I've had it since the Randallized version knocked my socks off at a BA fest a couple of years back.

I have now achieved cruising altitude.
Just had a Rogue Mocha Porter with a 16oz grilled ribeye, some grilled asparagus and a twice baked potato...Yes I grill out at 11pm sometimes. Now I think Im gonna have a 90min as well.

edit: MMMmmmm Randallized IIPA.....Maybe one of these days..... :kicksrock:
I did this a couple of nights ago only it was a Stone Smoked Porter, lamb chops with the asparagus, and no potato.

Cool, thanks

As soon as I get home I plan on rating the Uff-da Bock from New Glarus. Sent courtesy of Kleck from the group one brigade.

Just popped a Drakes IPA.

Nice head, nice dark amber color...Smells like a West Coast IPA....

Taste: I like it. Alot. Very good IPA, IMO. Reminds me a bit of Racer 5. Floral, citrusy....nice balance. The West Coast is the Best Coast when it comes to IPAs. Theres just no comparison.

Great choice, Max.

I liked it a lot too. I might pick some more up this weekend actually.I just cracked a Dogfish Aprihop. Very good beer. I was a little leary about another apricot flavored beer (after having the abortion that was Pyramid's Apricot), but this is very well done. These Dogfish guys brew some cool stuff.

I was a bit leary at first, too, but the apricot isnt overdone in that beer. It just lends some sweetness that makes it really smooth. I might like it better than 60 minute.Glad ya like that one.

Went semi-nuts at the local brewpub last night (their barleywine just came on - very young, but with a few months of aging this one's gonna be gooooood!) before the Donna the Buffalo show, so I'm taking it easy tonight. Starting off with a Carolina Brewing Co. Doppelbock - toasty, slightly sweet, subtle noble hops, has that signature CBC flavor (combo of maybe-slightly-too-long-of-a-sparge hint of graininess and their house yeast) in the background which works pretty well with this brew. Verrrrrry smooth. 6.7%.

So far...Brooklyn Lager, Old Chub and Old Domnion Spring Brew.
Never had any of those.
The Brooklyn Lager may be the best lager Ive had. Im not usually a fan of lagers but that one is pretty good. Otis sent one to group 2....Good stuff.
Very true. It was the perfect beer after a hard day at work. I'm not used to working hard. :D Old Chub is a scottish (wee heavy) ale. And a pretty good one too. Good followup to the lager. OD Spring Brew is a seasonal and is classified as a double pilsner. It was very good last year. It just doesn't seem as good this year. Not sure why. Still good though. Now I'm on to a 10 Years Alt. So far it's a malty night. Perfect since it's so warm outside.

Im finishing up my 2nd Drakes IPA. This stuff is excellent. Im not sure why BOM group one didnt give it better ratings

Quality, quality stuff.

BA classifies it as an English IPA. It is a little different that most West Coast IPAs, but it is way too big to considered English, IMO. I'm glad you liked it. When we started talking trade again, I knew this was a beer that you'd probably enjoy.

Now drinking a Lancaster Amish Four Grain Ale. I've posted about it before. I hate it. I'd rather drink Bud. Or Natural Light. It's that bad. Why am I drinking it? Cuz I'm a cheap *******. I'm not gonna throw it out. And I made the mistake of telling everyone how much I hate it, so they won;t take any. Fortunately it's my last bottle...and I used some of it to make a dough.

First sip after the good beers was like :X

:lmao: I gotta try this. I might just have to buy another 6 pack of Amish Ale. Too bad they don't use twist offs. Going to have to be extra careful with the bottle opener.

As long as you only did this to one beer in a package, Id say it would be quality beer schtick.

I wouldn't do this to anyone I mailed a beer too. Just local friends. ;)

I think I'm only going to sample one new trade beer per day.
Things change.Had me some Prior 8. God, how I love a good Belgian.
 Hell yeahs. Plenty more where that came from.

Dont forget, Im going to Michigan in June...Bells Two-Hearted IPA, Founders Centennial IPA, Crooked Tree IPA, Victory Hop Devil and Devil Dancer, etc etc etc

Im bringing home a buttload....

Going for the Olde Gnarlywine from Lagunitas.

Lagunitas used to be one of my favorite breweries, but we've grown apart. They make a lot of very good beers, but nothing I would categorize as great.

Although this barleywine is borderline...

Old Chub is a scottish (wee heavy) ale. And a pretty good one too.
Its not my favorite Scottish Ale, but the Old Chub is still very good and between it and the Pale Ale they are the best canned beers I have ever had.

hey Max, have you tried the prior 8 or the tripel before?? I was hoping you hadnt...
No.I can't get any St. Bernardus here. I only had the Abt 12 because Kilgore sent one to me on our trade earlier. So, yeah, this is a really good thing.

Exxxxcellent.[/mrburns]

Man. Even after a couple of Drakes and a Stone AB, the SN Celebration Im drinking is still hoppy as ever. No taste degradation, even after some hop monsters.

Tomorrow Ill start with some Mad River IPa, and will probably move on to some Racer 5.

Racer 5. I think it may be the best IPA on the planet.

Dudes - New beer to look out for . .. .

Moylan's Hopsickle Imperial Ale - Triple Hoppy

So good. Emoticon Hop progression:

:banned: :hot: :yucky:   :) :D :excited:
Yes sir.The beer is brutal. It might be the bitterest beer I've ever had in my entire life. That stacked on all the alcohol makes it quite a journey.

Sierra.

It's actually been quite awhile since I had one,

(okay, I actually had a few pints last Thursday),

it's the first time I've brought any home in quite some time.

The boys are coming by tomorrow though, and I thought I'd keep it simple.

Got a case of it at Costco for $20.

Whadda bahghen!
