I've only heard of about four of those beers, but I'm going to go out on a limb here. A Lager from Thailand is probably going to taste approximatley like dog ####. Same with the Lager from Guatemala.I hope I'm wrong of course.

Edit: Salvator Dopplebock is an excellent beer though, so all is not lost.

:goodposting: Also, why would a beers of the world pack have two beers from Spain. Are they really known for their beer? I understand two from Germany, but Spain...

Upon further review(fine print) San Miguel is brewed in Manila, Philippines.

They had to average it out. $11 and change for 10 good imported beers sounded too good to be true.

Not bad for the price. I agree. Even the bad beers will be better than Bud.

No, of course not. Hell, Budweiser is almost a dollar a beer per bottle. You'll probably just find some of them sort of boring.

I may or may not be downing an AleSmith Speedway Stout this evening. However, I can say with certainty that it will be gone before the weekend.

Curently sipping a Stone Ruination.

Got down to the Outer Banks a few hours ago. The indoor pool at the hotel leaves a bit to be desired and the weather sucks. Spent about an hour in the hot tub and the pool. Time to find the Outer Banks Brewing Station.
Good beer there! Wasn't as impressed with the bock as I'd hoped, but it was pretty damn good. Was more impressed with their hefe. Very good. I want more.
Went there today and had another couple of beers. Being 3pm instead of 10pm, the brewer was still there, no band was playing and the place was mostly empty, so I got a chance to talk to them about their most recent award. Me: "Hey, so you guys won an award this year for your Smolderbock." Them: "What? Really?! That's great!" :D

Mug Club night at the local brewpub - $2 for a ~20 oz mug.

- IPA

- Black Bavarian Lager

- West Coast Stout

BOMC group 2 has two of those arriving on their doorsteps this week.

Went to a little beer store down here in NC. I wanted to go with some stuff I haven't been able to get or local (NC) brews. I guess this is what I'll be trying tonight.

Big Boss
I'll be interested to hear your take on it. A lot of folks around here seem to like it, but I don't remember being that impressed when I tried one. Still probably the best bottled IPA made in NC, which isn't saying much. If you like dark beers with a kick, see if you can find a Highland Tasgall Ale.
I decided not to judge it that night because I was drinking it a bit warm and from a styrofoam cup. So I'm having another one now. I can't quite put my finger on it. I like the way it smells. But I'm not sure if a beer should smell like it does. Not much malt in the aroma. It smells like walking through the Home Depot Christmas tree area in December. Very piney. The taste is much the same. Not well balanced, pretty bitter. Tasty, but not something I'd go out of my way to find.I had the Highland Tasgall on draft at Howards Pub on Ocracoke Island.  That hit the spot. Speaking of Highland, I had a couple of bottles of Kashmir IPA. I liked it. But that might have something to do with getting stuck at the ferry dock for 2 hours. The beer wasn't exactly cold, sitting unrefrigerated in the back of the car all morning. And I didn't have a bottle opener. I had to use the car keys to open it...I wasn't going to be denied. :banned:

Dude, I'm a pro at this. Over the years, I've found about a hundred different ways to open a beer without an opener. It took some time, but I perfected the lighter butt way. Too bad I haven't smoked in a little while and I don't carry a lighter anymore.

I haven't seen the Stone Imperial Stout yet either.  I imagine it will take a few weeks to filter into NorCal.

And just because I'm stoked about it, I'll share.  I just had a face to face meeting with a big reviewer on BA to trade some beers while he was in town.  I recieved:

El Toro IPA (finally)

Sleighor Double IPA

Bridgeport IPA

Okocim Porter (#70 overall BA)

Brasserie Des Rocs Grand Cru (#14 overall BA)

Speakeasy Old Godfather Barleywine

Maybe I should invite him to this thread.  Good guy and knowledgable when it comes to beer.  Much more than myself, anyway.
I ordered a case from my local store, so as to trade with you. Let me know how you like it and if you still want to trade?
Yes, I still want to trade. After having one, I can say that El Toro is a DAMN good IPA. Easily better than some of the more well known beers and could be put on the same level as Racer, Alesmith, and Stone. Really, it is that good.

I've used pliers, the edge of counter tops, tables, etc. First time I had to resort to car keys though.

In the college house I used to drink at, the drawer handles were perfect. Never needed a opener.

Tremont IPA from an online BOTM club.

English style IPA. Not bad. Not real hoppy, but balanced...More like a pale ale...Nice quencher

Really good description of the Big Boss, as you put to words my exact thoughts on the beer.Glad you liked the Tasgall. And as far as the Kashmir, I don't hate it, its just not my idea of an IPA. Highland definitely makes some drinkable beers though. I need to get out to the Outer Banks at some point. Haven't been in 14 years, which is a shame since I live in this state (8 hour drive from the mountains though). I think I was at Howard's many moons ago. I love Ocracoke Island.

Me too. Conversation with a hotel owner a couple of years ago. Me: "You guys have a computer repair shop here?" Her: "Yeah, you need some help." "Nah, I was just thinking about a business to start up down here. I'd love to move down." "Oh, well you just missed out. He opened up his shop less than a year ago. He's always busy." :wall: We live about 2 hours from Nags Head. We usually skip that area and head on down to Ocracoke, but decided to stay up north this time and make a day trip of Ocracoke. Howards is a great place. Over 200 beers on the beer list.

got a growler of 11%, how much of it can i safely drink in one sitting w/o passing out in my chair?
The growler I have is 2 liters, or a little more than 1/2 gallon. About 3.5 pints or so. Shouldn't be a problem.

oof

maybe i should revise that to "how much can i drink in one sitting w/o waking up with a splitting headache in the morning?"

The problem with growlers is once you open it, you only have a couple of days to drink the beer. So, drink it all!! And let us know how that turns out.

 this is part of my research for the BiF. guess it's "take one for the team" time.

Holy #### that Troegs Nugget Nectar is easily a top 3 IPA for me...Racer 5, Alesmith, and Nugget Nectar are my 3 favorite so far.
