What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

Now the Calcutta 420 IPA.  Pretty straight forward beer.  It is what it is.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
 better than bud

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I suppose its all relative to what you call a "straight forward beer". I'd call that a straight forward beer.Yes, it is better than bud. But being better than bud doesn't make it a great beer.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It is a weak IPA offering. It IS a craft beer, just not up to snuff with the other beers in its category. Bud is a much better American Lager than Calcutta 420 is a craft IPA.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
True that. Apples to oranges. I use 3.0 as the base. Anything below a 3.0 rating I would prefer not to drink. I'd give the Calcutta 420 a 3.3 . Obviously drinkable but not something I'd yearn for.

Stone Smoked Porter. Not bad.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Errrr, umm, tell us more.Myself, I'm having a Victory Hop Devil.

A side story, I was at my local beer store and I inquired about Fantome which I haven't seen much of around here. He tells me that they are having problems with the distributor but he has some Fantome Hiver that he had stashed away. I'm going to drink that tomorrow when I am sober.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Nice, never had the Hiver. Love Fantome and this beer gets great reviews, definately something to look forward to.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
got one of these in my fridge.. and i'm scared to crack it cause there's no backup. :(

But the main  reason I moved from frigid Mighigan to the sunshine state was the HEAT. I friggin LOVE it. All walks of life come to a....s l o w....c r a w l...in the summer, and thats when I love it the most. It keeps the old people inside and off the roads, so its all good.

Plus, drinking a beer on the porch at midnight when its 90 degrees is something I just LOVE. Sweating balls, drinking a nice hefe...even better near (or ON) the beach.....ahhhhh, Florida.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Speaking of Florida, I wanna show you guys where me and the GF stayed a few weekends ago....20 steps out the back door to sand...http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/2691/beach0il.jpg

If you goto http://maps.google.com and type in "183rd Ter W, redington shores, FL 33708", then click "HYBRID" view in the top right corner of the map, youll see the house in the pic....then you can zoom in or out and see the surrounding area...or click and hold down your left mouse button to move/drag the map around.....absolutely beautiful area. And we didnt have to pay a dime to stay there. I took some Hazed & Infused, some Mojo IPA, a few DFH Aprihops....drinking on the beach at 2am is something special.

Why do I love Florida, let me count the ways.......

Sorry, I just love to brag sometimes..... :banned:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
 Wife and I are headed to Seagrove (little east of Destin, near Seaside and Watercolor) Wed - Sun to celebrate our first anniversary. Going to hit up this place for brew. I can get some DFH, Three Philosphers, and a whole bunch of other stuff I can't get in New Orleans. Can't wait to finally get my hands on some DFH. :)

help me complete a trade with FatMax

i'm sending:

sorry.. can't name drop as there is potential that they will be BiF beers.

but i don't know what to ask for in return. all i can think of is the obvious beers from Stone. i'm IN for the Moylan's Kiltlifter.. but after that i'm waffling over the rest.

keep in mind that Skylord recently sent me Arrogant *******, Alesmith Grand Cru and Stone RIS

"St. Bernardus Abt 12 "Special Edition" to celebrate 60 Years

Just got word from Brouwerij St. Bernardus (Belgium) that they're brewing a one-time "Special Edition" of St. Bernardus Abt 12 to celebrate their 60th anniversary. Brewmaster Bert Van Hecke brewed with hops from Poperinge: Challenger and Golding, along with black, amber, Munich and pale ale malts. Word is the brew is at least 11 percent ABV, if not higher.

It's currently being bottle now, and will be available in the US in around 8 weeks via Artisanal Imports (http://home.mn.rr.com/artisanal/). The special gift-pack will have a single 75cl bottle in a metal container. No other information at this time.

Stay-tuned ..."

i'm IN for one of these if/when you see it.. dependant on price.

:o   MUST. HAVE. THIS.

'bout crapped myself when i read that at the BA.

went on the prowl for some this weekend. went to 3 different places in Milwaukee that get good-->great ratings, and found a grand total of three 11.2 ounce bottles of St Bernardus Abt 12.

THREE!!! :hot:

i had planned to pick up 3-4 of the 750s.

guess some is better than none. but i'll be hoarding those for a while i think.

So you guys spent your weekends drinking beer, and posting about it in this thread?

Huh... I drank some good beers this weekend too, didn't see my computer once though.

I've got one place where I can consistently get it in either singles, 4-packs, or 750ml.

I saw about 10 of them at Sam's and 6 at Whole Foods on Friday. I got two for myself, but haven't opened them yet.

Sam's sells good beer in your area? Man, here, it's nothing but Macro crap.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
 rated it at the BA. think it came out to a 4.1

i'd slot it as my #2 favorite witbier. right behind Hoegaarden :bag:

something about the taste threw me at first but they were so smooth and easy that i killed them both in under an hour (usually i take about 45-60 minutes to drink a beer :bag: ). first one surrendered in about 15 minutes.

i'd pick them up again. solid choice.

Nothing wrong with some Hoegaarden. I had it on tap once, and it was tremendous.

truththought it might get mocked as a "macro" version of Belgian beer just cause it's seemingly so common.. but i think it's fantastic.

No way. That's like knocking Chimay, which is pretty much available anywhere. A good bottle of Chimay Blue is a world class beer, and I enjoy white and red as well. I'd obviously take a St. Bernardus, Westmalle, or Rochefort over it, but it's nice to be able to walk into a grocery store and pick up a solid belgian beer.
