What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Going to try a Niewy Ligt Crand Cru. Barleywine style.

I'll be going to a beer dinner on the 31st featuring Hair of the Dog brews paired with courses. Will post the whole menu later, but I suspect that Alan Sprints (owner/brewmaster for HOTD) will be there, since the brewery is literally minutes from the restaurant. If anybody has any questions you'd like me to ask, I'm more than happy to try and monopolize the conversation.
One thing I'd like to know is what's the longest he recommends aging his brews - I have older 12 oz. of Adam and Fred that I'm dying to crack open (sadly only one of each). LOVE that brewery. :banned:
This is a great point. I have another 6'er of Fred from the Wood coming (thanks to LS). How long does he think it will take to peak? And let him know that Wood-Fred was outstanding NOW. Curious to see what his thoughts are on its best age.
I have 12 Fred of the Woods and haven't cracked one yet. I'll probably wait another year.
I'll be at 8 Wood-Freds when LS ships finally. Can't wait to try these over the next several years.
Yeah, the normal Fred is superb. I'm excited about aging this beer as well.
I found this Founders Curmudgeon tonight to be somewhat similar to the Wood-Fred. Not the same style (Old Ale vs Barleywine), but quite honestly, they were very close. Same heavy feel. Same caramel/woodsy/brandy taste. And improved as it got warmer. If you can't get it there, let me know and I'll go pick up the rest of the supply that Binny's has on the shelf for trades or unsurprising "surprise" packages.....

ALMOST had my hands on some of the Captain today... unfortunately they had "recently" sold out and only had the Dubbel on tap.

too bad i'm 1500 miles away from it
.....says the ####### guy who just got 42lbs of beer shipped to his ####### door. You want  ? How about  to Furley? How about THAT, LAUGHINGBOY?!?!?!?!
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: back off sister.. or you won't get none of it!
If you EVEN ship any of that beer away in trades, I will personally come up there and #####-slap you."And THIS one's for Gator, #####!!!!!" :SLAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:

Good things happening beer wise up here.
:jealous:I'm just hoping this guys stuff doesn't suck. They're defintely putting a lot of work into the place.
It's a Pugsley brewhouse, so they're probably using Ringwood yeast. Well handled with proper diacetyl rest during brewing, the beers can be excellent (see: Middle Ages Brewing Co.). If they just follow Pugsley's recipes and get a tired yeast strain, the beers will get a butterscotchy kind of flavor to them (see: Shipyard). There are a LOT of those brewhouses in the Northeast - I think there are 8 of 'em in Maine alone. A lot will depend on the brewer.

Don't feel bad - I'm 100 miles away and haven't even had a whiff of it yet. It's on at Mahar's so maybe tomorrow evening - otherwise I won't be there for two weeks (wife is heading to Alaska with her family on a cruise, so I'll have the kids solo. )

should you happen across any Captain in the near future.. let a brother know!
Will do. Scott (brewer) said that I need to get my butt down there. Apparently the last time they bottled, it was him, his mom, and his dad bottling away for 6 hours or so. That's not dedication - it's insanity!!!

Brewmeisters ReservesUniquly esoteric ales designed for long term cellaring.

Special beers created especially for the beer connoisseur.

On the list. I've been by a few times to talk to (annoy) the brewer Mike.

Don't know too much about the brewer. Home brewer. Owns a home brew shop. Spent a bit over a year at St. Georges to learn the ways of larger production. I'm hoping for good things, but not really holding my breath. If he turns out a good product, I'll be shipping a few boxes out.

Oh..current beer: Hops Infusion. Defintely the new recipe. Pretty good. Might have to pick up a full 6er to get the full effect.

St. Georges should have given him a good base from which to work - they do a fine job IMO. The brewer at my local BP was a homebrewer before he started there, and has to GABF Golds sitting on his shelf so...Hops Infusion... diggin' that brew. Recipe change did wonders for it.

Yeah, Andy does his thing pretty well. Nothing exciting, but very consistent. Wish he'd experiment, but that's not going to happen. On to a Dreadnaught. It's on now. :banned:

Oh the wonderful Dreadnaught

Oh the wonderful Dreadnaught
I'm either drunk or a true beer geek. Maybe both. I had my nose to the glass while I was pouring it. Need to have that smell permanently implanted.

Will definitely ask that. I have 11 Fred-Woods left - tried one about a month ago, and though it was fantastic, the alcohol taste was definitely present. I figure about a year or a little less should take care of that.

The Niewy Ligt was a good barleywine - nice carmel and spice notes, not too hoppy, but the alcohol taste was pretty overpowering. 12% ABV and easy to tell that. 2005 Reserve vintage, could have used another year plus to age I think.

On to my first ever Smuttynose beer - a Summer Weizen Ale. Not bad. Good summertime beer. With temps outside around 80 degrees right now (at almost 2am), its mighty tasty (even though my A/C is cranked up and its nice and comfy in here)

Saw yours. Started to bid on it, but couldn't do that to you. Bid on another, and the guy who runs an Ebay store selling Westy sniped me.

Won one about a week ago. :pickle: Cost me a bit more than I had hoped, but not more than I had planned. Anxiously awaiting it's arrival. Kind of wish I had gone after one that was a mix of 8 and 12 instead though. Want to try 8 as well.

Do an advanced search on ebay. There is a drop down that's default is ebay.com. Switch that to worldwide and you are there.
