What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

I am not reading 235 pages to see if this is a honda, but I thought I would try to contribute.

The worlds strongest beer is 'Samuel Adams' Triple Bock, which has reached 17% alcohol by volume. To obtain this level, however, they had to use a champagne yeast.

We'll take any contribution. Actually, Sam Adams has outdone that beer with the Sam Adams Utopias which clocks in at 25% alcohol. For me though, one you start getting above 12 or 13% it starts to taste less like beer and more like a strong brandy or some other liquor. The Utopias retailed for around a 100$ a bottle if I am not mistaken.

:banned: Great Lakes Brewing Co. - Burning River :banned:

I like it and it goes down a hell of a lot easier than the cans of Miller Lite I was drinking on the golf course

I am about to crack open an Allagash Interlude. Its a Belgian Saison aged in wine barrels to give it kind of a beer/wine hybrid taste. It cost 20 bucks for the bottle, so it better be good.
I picked up Maine's two heavyweights tonight. The Interlude (first time I've ever seen it and the place has a dozen more) is one of them and the Cadillac Mountain Stout is the other one (the majestic looking mountain pictured on the bottle is actually an exhaust-filled, granny-lovin' tourist trap in reality). I've had this stout before and had mixed feelings on it but my palate was too inexperienced at the time so I'm giving it a fair chance now. I may actually have a pay per view of stout feasts tonight with the CMS as the undercard and the Alesmith Speedway Stout as the main event.I can also get Allagash Tripel (thought to be the #3 Maine beer), Four, Musette, White, Victoria, and Dubbel whenever I'm in Maine as well as Atlantic Brother Adams Honey Bragget Ale if anyone is interested in trying some of the top Maine brews.
we might have to talk trade soon. i've got a couple Allagash that i'll be drinking soon. be nice to have a connection w/ Allagash and the Cadillac Mt. Stout.
i'm starting to work on my "gots" list on BA as we speak.

 Let me know what you think of the Interlude. Definitely one of the most interesting beers I have ever had. And good too. Haven't seen them down here for months. I think it is the best of Allagash's speciality beers.
I went specifically to Bevmo today looking for some Allagash specialty brews and they didn't have any :hot:
i can take care of that.

I've seen this in stores so why is it "retired?"
BBC continues to release them to distributors. Its said they have a warehouse full. Depending on the cost I would recommend purchasing a couple. They are at the minimum 9 years old.

I forget the 1st beer I had today. Second was Lucifer. It was ok. Now I'm about to have a glass of Victory V-12. Looking forward to it.

Wow, I can definitely appreciate this Cadillac Mtn. Stout now that I've had some other stouts. Full-bodied is an understatement; you need big gulps to drink this down. Low carbonation and definitely on the thick and creamy side. A tinge of coffee leaves its mark on the palate as I imagine that any stout lover would be hard-pressed to not love this beer.

I've seen this at a couple of the local stores but saw that the BA reviews left much to be desired. I think one of my purchases this week is going to be Stone Vertical Epic (06) as i've never seen this anywhere else besides the town in which I'm working this week.

where can you buy nice glassware for cheap online?
just ordered some really cool glasses from Merchant du Vin. not a huge selection but they do have some great Belgian glasses for a lot less than i've seen other places.
yup, looks like some stuff here. what's shipping like?i'm thinking that generic/plain snifters and such will be cheaper but i'm just not sure where to look. i suppose amazon would do.

Sounds like I've got a beer that will be right up your alley.

not bad at all. it's US based. i think it was like $9 or something for 3 glasses.

fixed some english there..yup, you're going to have to try this sooner than later.

Nase you on Beer Advocate?
yes but under a very difficult to find handle :loco: i actually finally read the front-page article on BA about the westy(ie?) brewery in Belgium and how it is changing its sales approach. and i noticed that someone here brought it up a while back...on one hand, it takes care of the uncertainty of knowing whether or not you will get anything when you show up but on the other hand, i could see it being more difficult to get this beer. looking at the reviews on BA, someone last year was able to pick up multiple 6-packs at the gift shop but you could see the amt. of beer that people could buy steadily dwindle down to a 4-beer gift pack.i wonder if it's only a matter of time before the beer is closed off from the public entirely..that or it no longer becomes worth it to even go to the brewery.and with all that said, how are people still able to get enough beer to sell it on ebay?!? and only sell for 30-40 euros a 6-pack or whatever they normally go for...

oh, and what might that be?i'm starting to wonder, for whatever reason how a beer with hints of chocolate/toffee or a sweet flavor might taste when combined with say raspberries or something like that. normally, toffee and raspberries probably don't go together at all but i wonder whether the brewing process might change that.

There a quite a few stouts out there that use fruit (cherries, raspberries, etc). They work quite well. There a quite a few barleywines and old ales which once they get some age on them reflect both raspberry and toffee tones at the same time. With good success as well :) Oh, and its the Speedway Stout from Alesmith. People seem to like it ;)

'Fraid I'm not hittin the speed way tonight :sadbanana: Turned out that the Cadillac Mtn. held its own though and I'm quite satisfied for the night with just that.As for the toffee/fruit thing, some examples?

Am I gay for liking Blue Moon?
there are better beers in that style.. but i don't think there's anything wrong with it.
Recommend please.

Witbier/Belgian White styleThere are probably...(good god these indian men out on the street tonight are obnoxious!!) two to three that are more widely available than others depending on your locale.Allagash White is a personal recommendation brewed in my home state. It's probably one of the first micros I'd recommend to anyone with little micro experience and I'm guessing it's pretty popular with experienced advocates as well.Hoegaarden is the other one and I'm thinking it is definitely more widely distributed. You could make some inquiries to local shops to see if either is available. Unibroue also has Blanche de Chambly but I've never had it.

Stock ale from North Coast will hit it. Mind you this beer doesn't actually have fruit added to it and will need some age to really blossom. Also Blithering idiot from Weyerbacher and Millenium from Dominion will achieve this. A lot of English barleywines can show you what you are looking for.I can't think of an actual fruit added beer that has toffee tones to it. They are usually added to stouts and wheats.

furley, hope that you beermailed siodhachain when in Bloomington/Normal.
i didn't. not enough time while i was there. next time
so what are your "competitive advantages" so to speak when it comes to beer trading. are your want/got lists on BA updated? i see that you're close to slab and another brewery and have access to bell's.i pretty much can get just about anything from Maine except for a couple from Allagash and have access to a lot of Massachusetts stuff and probably will have access to some Mass. stuff in the fall...even though I haven't noted them yet on my "gots" list.

If you have beers that they want, they will find you. I had to remove the Beatification from my got list because I was getting too much attention. The Hopsickle is another popular one that gets a lot of hits.

beer list is not updated. i've got access to more than what's on there.. plus a #### ton of beer in my cellar.eta: New Glarus' Wisconsin Belgian Red seems to be pretty popular. i don't like it but it's in demand.

Nah. Under 5 a week. If you don't have good beers listed in your gots list, you won't get any hits.

ok, i'll be in maine from the aug. 18th- sep. 3 or so so that would be the time for a trade. if you want anything from alesmith let me know because i'd have to pick it up this week where it's my last working in forboro (only place ive ever seen it so far). you can get that from skylord as well apparently, too. i'm going to call john harvard's and see if they can fill a growler of demon dpa or see if they sell it in bottle.

Founders Curmudgeon is a great example of this. I swaer every time I drink it, the finish on that beer tastes like a banana split with vanilla bean ice cream covered with caramel, a little brandy and a touch of whiskey. Too ####### late to drink one tonight, but gawd I love that beer.
