What movies if on can you not change the channel? (2 Viewers)

I’m talking if you stumble across them. My list:

Shawshank Redemption
Goodfellas
Casino
Superbad
Animal House
Pulp Fiction
Silence of the Lambs
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Wedding Crashers
Old School
Gladiator
Scarface
Full Metal Jacket
The Town
The Wolf of Wall Street
Field of Dreams
League of their Own

Also haven’t turned the channel on Gran Torino yet. And to show how shallow I am, probably add Borat. I laugh hysterically and think Cohen is a comedic genius. Some of the absolute classics (The Godfather, etc) that are too long bore me in sections. So excluded them as if they too drawn out I will turn the channel. I’m sure I’m missing some but these are top of mind for me.

As in, you'll watch it until the end after stumbling on it?
I would say none. I might watch a few minutes but then think I need to watch it again from the beginning and change the channel. Unless of course there's only a few minutes left.

So many I don't know where to begin.

The Last Starfighter
The Hunt for Red October
Star Wars episodes IV, V, and VI
Airplane!
Just about any Clint Eastwood movie, especially the westerns(can't do Pink Cadillac or Bridges of Boring county though)
Dozens of classic 80's movies(Goonies, Better Off Dead, Breakfast Club, etc.)

OK.....some not listed yet
  • Rounders
  • Dodgeball
  • For Love of the Game
  • The Natural
  • Back to the Future
  • Roadhouse
  • The Fugitive
  • Vacation
  • Christmas Vacation
  • The Firm
  • Pelican Brief
  • American Pie
  • There's Something About Mary
  • My Cousin Vinny
  • A Time to Kill
  • Trading Places
  • Fletch
  • White Men Can't Jump
  • Hoosiers
  • Major League
  • Oceans 11

Funny how movies are so subjective. I took a look at the movies listed so far. I would only stop and watch on about a third of them. That doesn't mean that the options people listed aren't good movies, only that I would drop everything to watch them.

Bloodsport

Ogre is just captivating.
Came in here to post this same thing. I never actively seem to watch it, but if it’s on I’m watching. This is the main movie like this for me.

To lesser extents my list would include: Field of Dreams, any Mad Max movies, A League of Their Own, Finding Forrester, and Good Will Hunting.

Back when I used to flip around channels it seemed “A Few Good Men” was always on and I’d always stop to watch.
I'm curious how many people still do the channel flip. I haven't in many years and I suspect that goes for a bunch of us. Still fun to think of movies you wouldn't skip past if you did still channel surf though.

What's interesting to me is that movies like Goodfellas or Unforgiven, movies I would definitely put on my list... they often come up as an option in Amazon or Netflix or whatever... and I almost never click on them. There must be something about picking these movies up midway through, knowing them so well that you haven't missed anything, that is more attractive than starting them from the beginning.

I'm a huge channel flipper - its why i haven't cut the cord yet ---- it will be a tough adjustment

Also why I don't watch many Thursday games

I may flip away temporarily if it's not on one of the fight scenes, such as when Van Damme is trying to get busy with the blonde reporter or is being chased around Hong Kong by Charles Jefferson and the old guy.

I think it's because it's less of a perceived commitment. By searching out the movie specifically and then starting it you are already agreeing to a couple hours but stumbling upon a movie and just picking it up where it is feels like you found a bit of a treasure and you just want to watch some of it as a good memory of liking the movie and then end up getting sucked in to finish it.

ETA: There have been many times over the years where I stumble upon a movie and start watching on TNT and after about two sets of commercials I think to myself why don't i just grab the DVD and start it. I will probably catch up shortly and then don't have to mess with commercials........but then never do that.

I do this all the time, but not DVD and rent/buy the movie on AMZN

Shawshank Redemption is one I will always always stop and watch, but that's the only way I've ever seen it. I've never seen the first ~10 minutes of the movie, I always stumble upon it and Andy's already in prison by the time I turn it on.

Gone in 60 Seconds is another I'll add to the thread. Pretty much always stop and watch that one.
