What the hell is going on at reddit? some protest? /r/outoftheloop (1 Viewer)

Seems like a good chunk of subs are going private in protest of something, but I don't know what that something.

A news article was posted on one of the subs that mentioned a Reddit admin (an employee of Reddit). The article was not flattering because it was discussing the fact that this employee’s dad was a convicted pedophile. The post was removed and a moderator of the sub was removed. Some folks then started creating a ruckus partially due to the fact that the Reddit employee is male to female trans and some of the folks creating issues seem to be focusing on that aspect.

But in the digging, it turns out that it appears that this person was living with her dad when her dad raped and (I think?) murdered a child. After her dad was charged but before he was convicted, she hired her dad under false pretenses while working for a political party. She was fired. She was hired and fired from another UK political party. Reddit then hired her knowing all of this. There also appears to be some potential evidence that her husband is also a self confessed pedophile who says that he is attracted to young kids, fantasizes about them, and writes fiction about sexual relationships with them, but has acted with any actual kids on any of it.

Reddit is allegedly protecting this individual and censoring posts about them while possibly removing moderators and folks on Reddit are up in arms.

Some of this could be wrong, but it’s what I’ve gleaned from what I’ve read.

Yeah, it was hard to figure out what was going down because anywhere that mentioned something was happening kept getting nuked.

Yeah, the problem with Reddit is that hive mind quickly forms and it becomes difficult to figure out exactly which pieces are true, which are possibly true, and which are made up.

But a whole lot of subs got mad that a mod was removed/banned and the article removed simply because it mentioned the employee. So a ton of subs have now taken themselves private in protest over what they deem to be censorship.

Well it is censorship when you literally can't figure out WTF is going on because everything gets nuked.  I thought they were doing some sort of united gun control protest or something like that, had no idea it was that they themselves did something stupid internally.

The Reddit employee has now been fired and Reddit has put out a damage control statement. Foregone conclusion once it started hitting some news sites.

This sounds fantastically impossible.

You had a nice run, Onion.

I think you got most of it correct although the dad apparently didn't murder anyone, and the husband claims he was hacked. Reddit has since fired the employee.
