Unless it's changed, NC won't allow outside growlers to be filled. You have to exchange them. Strange but I "get" their reasoning.

Related, drink tanks seem to be all the rage lately. They even have a tap and CO2 adapter to keep the beer brewery fresh.

ETA: Here in VA our "weird" law is they won't allow 128oz growler fills. Guys who got the 128oz drink tanks are sorely disappointed.

I've got a Glass Growler for backup.... But,  usually get filled at a Distributor and they don't care....

Blue Point Brewery isn't that far from me but, haven't tried there yet...

Yeah I don't get the overpriced part -- growler fillups are usually pretty cheap-- usually $10-$14 which isn't bad for 64 oz of beer.

ah I see., I just went on walmart and did local pickup and found one 2 miles from my work with a few left.

Kind of kidding. It does "force" me to drink the whole thing though once opened whereas my "grunt" (32oz resealable glass) I can drink half today and half tomorrow. I'll use the grunt if I have it, crowler if not and they offer it.

 
threec is way to invested in this growler thing i bet he owns a growler factory brohans anyhow back in the day they had this thing called a glass and you just went to bar not a brewpub or a beerhut or a beersalon or whatever you nancies are calling them these days and you would say hey sully give me a beer and he would go grab a glass and fill it up and you would drink it there was never a time in that equashun that i would be like you know what sully get me a box i think i am going to have to take some o this here glass of beer home for later cripes drink up sallies and on the way home take it to the bank

Bars are for lowlife degenerates, breweries are where the cool kids hang. And they even have glasses. And beer that hasn't been sitting around for months running through lines that haven't been cleaned for years.

Wish I had a growler factory. Those guys must be making bank! Truth is I have several growlers and a grunt but rarely use them these days.

Where I'm at there is only 1 place I know of that will fill outside growlers/crowlers. Everywhere else it's their branded glass only.

Screw tops are fine and really the most common. As long as the seal is nice and tight there's no difference. Do like my old swing top though.

 
98% of places here will fill glass from anywhere. Only 2 or 3 breweries that I know of that will only fill their glass.

Im also a fan of crowlers, more and more places around here are getting machines.

 Only if it's truly amazing beer. Because $10-14 will get you 72 ounces of a wide variety of fantastic beer at the grocery store. 72 ounces stored in 6 12-oz containers is a hell of a lot more convenient. And it better be a hell of a lot better than a $15-18 SN Torpedo 12-pack. 

Most of the time, it's not a good deal, and I think brewpubs only get away with it because people happen to be standing in the bar at the time, so they compare it to the $5-8 pints they are currently buying.

There is some truth to this.  But then again if you are buying $13 4 packs of dogfish the growler isn't a bad deal.   You do know if the beer is fresh as well.

my local does flavor treatments that I can't get in cans at the store so growlers of those are are a worthy investment

I use Kleen Kanteen ones same concept great product.
