What's with all the Brandon Saine love? (1 Viewer)

Being picked up in every league I'm in. What's the big deal? Ok, Alex Green has knee issues, but does a promotion from the practice squad and playing 4th RB fiddle (Starks, Grant, Kuhn, Saine) in a passing option worth an add to your roster?

I think the waiver wire is crap this week so people just have to pretend to look intelligent.

If a guy like Ryan Grant can do what he did....ohhh same team too :excited:

WEATHER'S GETTING COLD ... PACK WILL TURN INTO RUNNING TEAM! STARKS BANGED UP!!

(methinks Rodgers wipes his #### w/above memo).

More Saine may be on the way

More Saine may be on the way

Green Bay -- Not long ago, his coach hinted at it. This past week, he played 10 snaps and touched the ball three times. It's early. They're easing him in. But soon, running back Brandon Saine could find himself a role on the Packers' offense. While it may seem hard to imagine an undrafted rookie who began the season on the practice squad finding a niche on an undefeated defending champion, it wouldn't be surprising here.

James Starks and Ryan Grant technically remain the tandem at running back, but Grant hasn't had a 10-yard run since Week Three. On a team that loves utilizing a rotation at the position, it'd make sense to blend Saine into packages. Some more on this tomorrow but here are some comments from his old running backs coach at Ohio State, **** Tressel.

On how Saine flew under the radar before the draft: “He’s fast, big and can catch. He had multiple talents so we moved him around a little bit so he was never featured in one spot. So that keeps you off the radar a little bit. We also had, while he was here, had great tailbacks to share the ball."

On how he projected to the next level: “I really thought that when given an opportunity, his talents would emerge because he is talented and he is a good person to have around. The Packers won’t want to get rid of him because he is such a team player with multiple talents. I just felt that once he was on a team, the team would start to recognize how important it’d be to have him as a contributing factor for a while.”

On Saine's quiet nature: "He's not a big talker. He just sort of goes about his business. He wants to make sure he understands what the situation is. He's very thoughtful, smart and when presented with a role he understands, he's awesome. He goes for it. He's not interested in doing anything to attract any more attention other than the attention that is earned by participating and doing his role on the team.

On his role at OSU being similar to what Green Bay could need: “There are some people that want their role and for things to be built around them. Brandon’s happy to do what the team needs him to do to win football games — whether that’s pass protect because he’s tough, catch it, run with it, whatever, cover kickoffs, whatever it is."

My guess is if you look at how thin the talent is at RB on your waiver-wire you'll see why he's geting some love...I don't think the love he's getting is a product of owners thinking they have the next big thing...it's more a fact that it's week 13, the playoffs are right around the corner, injuries are starting to mount-up and many fantasy teams are hurting in the depth department at RB...for the most part there's not much on the wire...maybe guys like Mewelde Moore, Delone Carter or Kregg Lumpkin are available and in all honesty if you have to play one of them you're playing fantasy roulette with your team...a guy like Saine at least offers hope (i.e. upside)...he's on a potent offense that has oa couple of RBs who are nicked-up and one not playing well...the Pack have also shown in the past they aren't afraid to give a "nobody" a chance and also play him if he's productive...therefore you have a situation where a RB-needy owner is going to add a guy like Saine to the end of his bench with the longshot chance that all of a sudden around week 15 the Pack gives the kid a chance and your RB woes have been magically solved by the fantasy Gods...

are you talking about dynasty leagues? I'd say he's definitely worth a spot. You have a guy that has legit passing game skills as a RB playing in one of the best passing offense in the league. His role will definitely expand and he could become a contributor in PPR leagues for sure...this is why I grabbed him a few weeks ago and tried to help others by starting a threadAlso, he's not behind Kuhn by much. Kuhn still has his GL role, but he doesn't play RB very much as he's usually the FB. Starks is hurt so it appears Saine may get more opportunities

Yeah I don't get it. Khun and Rodgers will continue to get the goal-line TDs. So now you have 3 RBs fighting over about 10 fantasy points in yardage per game - that's Saine's upside if Grant and Starks go on IR tomorrow - 10 fantasy points. The problem is Grant is healthy and Starks is dinged up but practicing fully. Really nothing to see here unless you think Saine is some diamond in the rough talent the Packers have kept hidden on the practice squad and is going to become a bellcow in a week or two.

not really, Grant was on the Giants
I'm aware of his time on the NYG practice squad but all of his opportunity came with the Pack

I don't think Saine is a bad speculative add in larger leagues if you have the roster space. Grant is washed up (sucks to say that because I've always liked him a lot) and there's nothing special about Starks. It's definitely possible Saine gets a larger role going forward.

However, that doesn't mean he'll have much fantasy value. The Packers are a run-heavy team and I don't see that changing the rest of this season. The running game is pretty much an afterthought and when the Packers do get inside the 10 it's almost always about Rodgers throwing for TDs with the rare Kuhn (or Raji) short TD plunge. Starks and Grant have been fighting for mild RB3 production the entire season. I don't see Saine doing any better barring injury.

I think it's hilarious. Same thing happening in my leagues...people grabbing the 4th best fantasy RB on a team that distributes very few rushing fantasy points. You'd be better off with Marcel Reese...at least he gets a few catches.

It's a stash and pray. What's so funny about that?I'm sure you were laughing when Victor Cruz, the 4/5th WR on the Giants was picked up this year too. Or how about the #4 WR on Dallas a couple years ago? I think his name was Miles. If you have room, it's not a bad pickup at all. If we could all predict what was going to happen down the road, this wouldn't be fun.

What's with all the Brandon Saine love? Because he's not Ryan Grant, a great guy, but can't even get what's blocked any more. Due to Green Bay's emphasis on the passing game, Saine's upside is limited, but he's not a bad flier if you have a dead spot on your bench.

Personally, once I drop out of the playoffs in a dynasty league, I typically drop marginal depth / handcuffs and grab a few lottery tickets. Don't see anything wrong w/ that.

Guess who caught more balls than Marcel Reese today?

Well look who's likely going to be flex worthy next week? I just wish I had Saine in my dynasty leagues I'm *in* the playoffs in ... he's basically going to be a non factor as all the non playoff teams snagged him.

WORLD CLASS SPEEDNFL SIZEGREAT HANDSPACKERS PASS ALL THE TIME, so he will be on the field more than GrantGOOD PASS BLOCKERWEATHER GETTING COLDERSTARKS HAS INJURED HIS ANKLE 3 TIMES. TIME TO SHUT HIM DOWN FOR THE REG SEASONKUHN DOESN'T TOUGH THE BALL OUTSIDE OF THE 3 YARD LINE.GRANT STINKS. Yeah pick up Marcel Reece for the stretch run, so when Moore and Ford come back next week Reece doesn't even play.

My backs this year Charles, Forte, Lynch, Hillis, Kevin Smith, Felix :bag:

Sain looks like my last hope for 10 touches a game.

He hasn't dissapointed anyone with regard to expectations yet. As soon as he gets a start and only ends up with 8 carries, 25 yards and 1 catch for 8 yards...then everyone will start the "Saine is worthless" posts.
