What's happened to Roy Williams? He's still a stud safety, isn't he? He's a little young to have lost a step. However, I do wonder about how the illegalization of the horse-collar tackle has affected his game. On the Jamaal Jones TD, after the catch, Roy reached out for Jones's neck-pad and then let up ... allowing Jones to score. Both safety positions put a hole the size of Texas in Dallas's secondary. If only they would address this in April.
How come he can't play LB like Thomas Davis? I'd swear at least 60% of the Jets plays Kerry Rhodes is blitzing, how come he can't do that?He is a glorified LB
I think he was competent in coverage during the first two years of his career, but that competence seemed to fade as (in my view) he grew enamored of his own stardom and looked more for big hits that would land him on Sportscenter rather than on good all around safety play. He's never been able to cover anyone. His value is in making big hits and stuffing the run. This is not new.
exactly. cowboys would have very few turnovers if not for him.and just to piss off more roy hatersRoy Williams and Mat McBriar were winning the fan voting at their positions by huge margins. Roy had almost four times as many votes as Adrian Wilson, and McBriar has more than twice as many as the No. 2 punter, Jason Baker.-- Terrell Owens was fourth at WR, barely behind Marques Colston for third.Back to Williams. Yes, he is a big hitter and a good run stopper. But the thing that many people miss is his playmaking ability vis-a-vis turnovers. He creates a lot of turnovers. Easy to overlook. But certainly valuable. There's a reason that Parcells has called him a "catalytic player". Thats a title that he gives very few. He refused to give it to DeMarcus Ware yet. That gives you an idea of how Parcells see Williams' playmaking ability.
