Who do you like as the #1 option in Oaklank (1 Viewer)

Culpepper has proven that he can get it down field. Combine that with JaMarcus still playing golf and Daunte's decent preseason game this might be a year you don't sleep on the #1 receiver on that team.

Question is who would be his best receiving option

BMW the guy whose never passed up a donut

Donald Curry. the guy who has never passed up an injury

Jerry Porter the guy whose passed up the opportunity to stab me in the heart

who do you like?

Is Ronald's brother playing for the Oaklank Raiders Arena Team?

i think that the love for curry is a bit unwarranted. last season, porter was in the doghouse for standing up to art shell. he wasn't given much of a shot to produce. as a result, curry was the de-facto beneficiary for receptions on the team while moss was injured.

in 2005, porter led the raiders in receptions. he had almost 950 yards. kerry collins was at the helm at the time.

in 2006, curry led the raiders in receptions. he had almost 750 yards. brooks and walters were at the helm.

they had similar numbers in yardage per reception. porter scored 4 more TDs in 05 vs. curry in 06, but the offenses were completely different.

when they both played together in 04, porter outproduced curry by a fair margin.

i think that, at best, they will produce similar numbers. if i had to give an edge to either, it would still goto porter because he has a longer history of production (however slim).

You're forgetting Curry's injuries in those prior years plus Shell's completely inept offense last year. Every time Curry has been healthy and matched up along with JP, RC has stood out both on the field and in the stats. He is the better WR, period. Only thing Porter has is a bit more speed and much better expected durability. Route running, toughness, hands, brains, heart all go to Curry.

I don't like to try to predict injury, but I'd be concerned w/ Curry. Snapped achiles two years in a row and put on IR. He is the better possession WR of the two and may outscore Porter in PPR leagues, but Porter is the bigger playmaker and redzone target. With BMW and Z.Miller and Jordan/Rhodes as good options inside the 20, Porter's TDs could drop. I still think Porter gets close to double digits and Curry gets more receptions. I'll say Porter finishes within 10 fantasy points of Curry. BMW doesn't equate in this conversation. Higgins will be the only one on the current roster who may start in the future. Mike should get a few TDs on short fade/jump balls, but that seems to be his only way of contributing.

as long as he does not actually have to jump

I'd bet on Curry.

Williams' role should increase with some early success, but he's not even the 3rd guy on the field at this point. I haven't had the chance to go through the 3rd pre-season game in detail yet, but Porter has been the first of the two starters to come off the field when the team is looking for match-ups. Curry never leaves the field, moves around a lot as the flanker, and will get some short stuff in the middle with the chance to catch&run. With the team's shift to a shorter, quicker passing game (many, many 1-3-5 step drops now), Curry will benefit from WR screens, slants and crosses that just weren't in the book last year.

To add, Travis Taylor, Mike Williams, and Johnnie Lee Higgins have been next on the field (ahead of Gabriel, Whitted, etc.) ... Taylor as the slot guy, Williams/Higgins as split ends replacing Porter. I'll look at the most recent game soon to see if there are any changes, but it was becoming clear that Taylor is getting the chance to play the slot (though he has looked average at best when on the field), Williams will be utilized situationally (around the end zone in particular), and Higgins is in line to be the team's next deep threat.

Shaq hasn't left the ground in 3 years!

Curry--who needs Achilles' tendons anyways? I mean, wasn't the tendon Achilles' weak spot?

Seriously, he's been the best Raiders WR for about three years, he just can't stay healthy.

I really believe that Porter is garbage. He was a decent third WR in a great offensive scheme, but he has done nothing of note since then.

BMW is absolute garbage. What a waste of talent.

Curry is the second most talented of the three, but he alone has the mental make-up to be an NFL player. And he was the #1 overall HS recruit too (football and basketball), so it's not like he has no talent. Remember he was a former QB too, which I love in WR's.

I really thought that he was going to be the next Hines Ward before all the setbacks.
