Who is the most famous person you have ever met? (2 Viewers)

Sara Evans (country singer): we went to high school together in a very small town (my class had 37 people in it)....I get a lot of the OP's bonus points here btw....

John Elway: we were both playing golf at Inverness in CO long time ago.....he was in there with Elam and a few other guys.....we were in the bar...I happened to be wearing a Chiefs hat that day and thought I'd give it a shot and that it would be cool and unique to have Elway's signature on a Chiefs hat.....he didn't agree....basically in a nice but really not so nice way told me to "FO I ain't signing that ####".....I apologized for asking....think he couldn't believe I had the stones to ask so he signed a napkin as he kind of grunted/laughed at me....

Biggest ####### by far: Sterling Sharpe

Ralph Macchio was in my house. His wife worked at a medical office that my mother managed. One year they had a Christmas party at our house. I want to say this is well after Karate Kid but before Cousin Vinnie

Was waiting for my car at a resort in Disney and a big SUV pulled up and Griffy Jr and Barry Bonds came out with their families. I was standing next to them. This was right around christmas 2000 so before a lot of Bond's steroid issues. I exchanged small talk with them and they were very nice. But within a few min, 2 idiots noticed them and started hanging all over them, making a big deal, take my picture crap and you could see their whole demeanor completely change. I politely said, ok fellas take care and left them to deal with the idots.

I had dinner with the whole NY Islander team once. My buddy worked for the team and I met him at one of the pre season scrimmages. We decided to go to dinner at the Hooters near the rink afterward and the whole team was there as well. So we were eating with them and such. After the meal was over, I notice an empty beer pitcher making the rounds and each guy dropping his credit card in it. It got to me and my buddy said not to worry, so I passed it along. When it got back to the head of the table, one player (forgot who), started pulling cards out and throwing them back to the owner. Tuens out last one had to pay for the whole thing.

My favorite exchange came from Stephen Tyler. I had bought a meet and greet package for my wife's birthday (so technically its not just a run-into type meeting) . Regardless, they were running late and the handlers were literally pushing people through the experience—say hi, take the picture, get out. Leading up to this, I was wondering WTF I say to ST? Dude has heard every "OMG I love you (song)" in the book. Ironically we were leaving for Disney that weekend ands they have a roller coaster named after them there. So we get in, I tell ST its my wifes B-day, he gives her a birthday hug and we take the photo. As the handlers are pushing us out, I look at ST and say "Hey, were heading to Disney tomorrow to ride your coaster about 100x" He smiled and say "cool man, have fun'

With that they are pushing us out and the new couple in, as we are walking out we hear from behind us "Hey, hey, come back!" We turn and ST is walking off the line and coming toward us. He pops up between me and the wife and tosses an arm over each of us. (for those who dont know, the roller coaster plays Aerosmith music in the car for the whole ride). He looks at us and says "now you listen to me, when you're on that ride and it goes over that 1st hill and goes (he start singing)  'Gooooooing Doooooown'" he looks directly at my wife and continues "baby....you better go down" He then laughs, kisses her on the cheek, high fives me and leaves to go back to the line.

My wife was in awe....she said "OMG, I cant believe ST sang to us!!"
Meanwhile I was like "OMG, ST just told you to Bl@w me!"

Worked at Canterbury Downs in Minnesota from 1987 to 1989 selling programs and Racing forms so ended up meeting, and talking with a lot of different "Famous" people in the sports field:

Fran Tarkenton, Tommy Kramer, Alan Page, Kent Hrbek, Dan Gladden, The Claw, Verne Gagne, Road Warriors, Mean Gene, Crusher many other "not so famous" Twins,Vikings, wrestlers.

and many, many 🏇 Jockeys, some that are still racing today.
Baron Von Raschke?  Awesome.  That is all the people need t know.
He  completely   me ..
I was busy as heck, so was looking down to grab more Programs from below my stand and heard someone say "Hi sir, can we get 3 programs and a racing form?"..

I grabbed a couple and noticed the size of the hand reaching out to pay so looked up and saw it was Baron, his wife and a friend..
Had a quick chat with them and wished him luck, he wished me luck as well as he left.
Was aw struck on how "normal" his voice was

I see him around from time to time.  Not sure if I've ever "officially" met.

I met a pro baseball player when I was a kid.  And a college basketball player.  Not sure which ones.

And I've mentioned this before but I had a huge whiff in college.  Friend is cousins with Adam Sandler.  He came to UCSB to do his comedy routine.  She invited me to go (front row of course) and to go have beers with him after the show.  I declined.... had to write an essay.  :(

5. Hank Williams Jr - I remember one time he and Derrick Thomas of the Chiefs were partying, and he comes stumbling out of his limo with DT before the show. He was so drunk he got up on stage and couldn't remember the words...was slurring, cussing out the audience...the whole bit. The crowd starts booing and getting pissed (remember, there are drunk country fans out in the crowd), and things are getting hairy. Hank walks off stage and just leaves. They had to lock down the facility and we couldn't leave until they got the crowd out of there. It was nuts.
Was this sometime around 1989? I remember hearing about that when it happened – although I suppose it could’ve happened more than once with that guy.

I met John Dunsworth and Patrick Roach (Mr. Lahey and Randy from Trailer Park Boys) at one of their shows in Bristol, TN a few years back. They both complimented me on my Tragically Hip T-shirt and we talked for a bit about Gord Downey, who had just been diagnosed with glioblastoma. Both had a great deal of respect for him, as did I.

Last October, I was eating at a diner in Midtown Manhattan when Morley Safer came in and sat down right next to me. While he was waiting for his order, we talked a little about current events, the weather, and stuff like that – small talk mostly. It was really neat, that is until I looked up his Wikipedia page later and found out that Morley Safer had died in 2016...

Yeah Rodman was a cool dude, exactly the type of guy you’d want to have a few beers with.  Not sure I could take much more then that though. Lol.

  • Christina Applegate (upgraded me many years ago to sit next to her in first, spent hours with her)
She's pretty good friends with my sister.  My sister cuts hair in a foo-foo salon up in West Hollywood so she has a lot of celeb clients.  I just never get to meet them.

I would have guessed that Bob Lanier was packing the most downstairs among that list.

Paul Sorvino. He bought the house I grew up in and my dad had custom built for his weekend retreat in the Poconos. We were in the area for a car show and heard he was looking for some information on the property (there was another owner in between). When we left the show my dad said he was going to stop in so I followed him, we pull in the driveway and this gorgeous women gets out of the pool (no not Mira just some girlfriend of Paul's). She asks what we want so my dad explains it and next thing you know Paul gets out of the pool and comes over and introduces himself. He has questions for my dad on the property so he asks what we drink, my dad says rum and coke so he grabs a few chairs mixes some drinks and we stayed there like 45 minutes telling him things about the property. Nice guy.

Outside I've met a bunch race drivers over the years and had conversations with them, had a picture of Helio Castroneves (before Dancing with the Stars fame) celebrating with his teammate Gil DeFarren after Gil won Indy that I had him sign. He loved it and asked if he could get a copy so a few months later at another race I brought him a copy and had a nice conversation about it.

i met bob hope and shook his hand a long long time ago and that was pretty spectacular take that to the bank brohans

Oh and I work with an ex MLB pitchers wife (he played 9 seasons in the show), she's as hot as you would expect.

Another MLB pitcher who played 8 seasons went to the small school my kids go to, I ran our local youth baseball league and through another dad who went to school with him he ran some pitching clinics for us.

Ran into Mario Lopez at the San Remo casino in LV around New Year's Eve 1994.

Kept asking him where "Screech" was and he either didn't know or wouldn't tell me.

I saw him at a tiny little sports book (not sure what hotel) in Vegas in the late 90's.  He was trying to be low-key, hat down low and sunk into his chair.

Dave Grohl at Funland in Rehoboth Beach, DE about 7 years ago.

Amazingly down to earth super nice guy.  Had his family there and was just riding the rides like he did with his family when he was a kid.  Wanted them to have a “normal-ish” upbringing.

One of the ones I came in here to post.  Working at the airport I met a bunch and had short conversations with:

Tom Cruise- He was shorter than I thought he would be
Robert Irvine- Nice guy.
Joe Namath- Got absolutely hammered in one of my restaurants and hit on just about every women there.  But everyone had fun.
Dan Marino- Totally arrogant
Chris Carter- Rivals Sterling Sharpe (Met him, too.  Shannon Sharpe was much cooler to talk with.)
Todd Lyght- Cool guy to talk with.  Was really fascinated with IDP concepts back in '94.
Julia Roberts- Very nice, but really wanted to be incognito so our conversation lasted about three sentences.
Jeff Gordon- Used to make pizza for him and Brooke.  They would come in to my Pizza Hut after a race in Charlotte.  Brooke was smoking hot, but a real #####.
Ted Koppel-
Erik Estrada- Dude was super cool and really wanted people to come up and ask for an autograph.
Magic Johnson- Nice guy, but holed up in the corner of the restaurant on his phone.  He didn't want folks bugging him.

Those are the ones the come to mind right away.  I'm sure I've met more.

Sat behind Lyle Lovett on a flight a couple of years ago. I had to talk to him when we landed because ... because I LOVE Lyle Lovett. I was an idiot. I wish I could have that conversation back. He was super nice.
Cool dude. Lived in the same areas as him in Houston.  Used to see each other frequently enough at a little Italian restaurant that we recognized each other but didn't really know each other. One day I was in line behind him at the grocery store and he pulled out a checkbook.  This was probably mid-2000's when checks were beginning to become rare and an inconvenience. I said in a very loud and exaggerated voice "oh, of course he's paying with a check". The other shoppers were horrified that I was calling him out. He turned around with a scowl and saw me laughing and immediately cracked up. Saw him a couple days later getting on a plane and we laughed about it and then for years afterwards when we'd see each other.  I moved away but I bet he'd still laugh about it today.

I met Paris Hilton at a Warped Tour when she was dating the lead singer of Sum41. She was buying a corn dog and was wearing the shortest skirt I’ve ever seen
Is that the same dude that was married to Avril?
I looked up Sum41 because I wasn't sure if I knew who they were. Saw this great bit on wikipedia

In 2001, the group was nominated for Best New Group at the Juno awards, but lost to Nickelback. The band was nominated for Best Group in the Juno Awards of 2002 but again lost to Nickelback

sure you're thinking of the right Joe Namath?  That's not the Joe I know.

i stood next to John Cale at a bar for about 10 minutes without speaking.

i partied and ate stolen pizza with Tomato Du Plenty.

i played bridge with Reid Paley who at that time briefly billed himself as SlashF###.

I've met a good number of (mostly) Detroit pro athletes.

Most famous person everyone would know: Billy Joel

Most famous person to me: Ernie Harwell

Biggest Doosh: Chris Berman

wikkid, while that is a very good card, i absolutely would have gone Roseanna Arquette sp?  (yeah, i spent a few years lurking)
that's not a celeb moment for me. it's interesting to other people because she's a celebrity, but that's a personal moment in my memory file because her ungodly sexuality trumped her fame. her hotdollbabyness, chesticles that are so unlikely for her frame that they must be made by God just for you and loadie cooing made it so that getting thru "hello" without finishing was a coup. but i endured the "urrrrr FUNny" couch plopdown, the fingerwalks, the "am i saying anything cool at all?", the wondering if doing her right there in front of everyone might be your only shot and trying to figure out if you're capable of that, the lean-in, the headrest and, finally, the loss-of-consciousness slidedown with those succulent lips on the pouch. and now the 30some yrs of replay. oy -

ETA: and my favorite is Keith Richards remembering my name after 2-3 yrs between meetings - much bigger personally than Gov Carter

I'm usually in 100% silence mode regarding these things. It's only when I'm buzzed/drunk that I share. I have a great Madonna story that happened the first night I met her when I was 17. I'm out for now to protect all that were involved.
Geez... what a tease.

Does anyone remember Grant Wistrom of the Rams? I partook some marijuana with him and one of his teammates from Nebraska and a few chicks in Cancun, Spring Break 1998. Not long before the draft where he was projected to be a high pick.

Well we know he was high.

Went to grammar and high school with Nancy Pelosi's son.

A neighbor was Robin Williams.

Would often see athletes when out and about: Ronnie Lott, Mark McGuire, Will Clark

Sammy Hagar

Sylvester Stallone

Cameron Diaz

Cheryl Crow/Lance Armstrong

Joe Sakic

Todd Helton

Very nice conversations on several occasions with jake plummer.

Jeff Fisher and several Rams

Snoop Dog

Dan Aykroyd

If it's the one who won Super Bowl 3- then yes, that was him.  It was just prior to the incident on air where he tried to kiss the reporter.  To gain a little perspective, it was a night with thunderstorm delays and flights were several hours behind.  The alcohol was flowing and everyone was making it a party.  He was very much the life of that party and everyone had a good time.  I said he was getting hammered, but it might have been just very well lit.
