Who Will Republicans Nominate in 2020 Versus Hillary? (1 Viewer)

I think he's saying the Republicans should adopt those socially progressive points that you note are also in the Democratic platform, but keep their economic and governmental conservatism. Things like combating establishment racism, not codifying religions views into laws, having a level of human decency in policies towards the poor and underprivileged, etc.  But at the same time, as he says, keep "Smaller gubment and lower taxes".
So basically Gary Johnson then.

Rubio will run again because, well, he's Marco and can't help himself. He's such a lightweight though and can't hang with the big dogs of whatever the GOP is in four years.
Rubio would be in the process of taking a victory lap right now if he had somehow gotten nominated.

Basically.  Republicans are the party of individual freedom, except if you want to do drugs.  Or decide what to do with your own body.  Or want to marry someone of your own gender.  Or if you want to use a different bathroom.

But you can have as many guns as you want!

This is the party that has now produced (with straight faces) Sarah Palin and Trump.  The problem is that they can't see this is a problem.

It will happen again.
And this is after the disaster of W, who they now admit was a terrible President.  Yet they will want to be trusted with the keys to the White House.

Rubio had a shot against Hillary in her weakest possible moment following the email scandal, it will be very difficult for him versus Hillary after 4 years of experience governing the country.

In 2008 I remember thinking, "the GOP won't be able to use the 'Obama is a secret traitorous terrorist Muslim' strategy in 2012 because it will be ridiculous after he's been president for a few years."  I was wrong.

They used it but Obama still got 5 million more votes.  And that was after a mostly reasonable (prior to Palin) campaign in 2008.  Four years won't be long enough to get the memories of Trump out of their mind.  Assuming Hillary does an adequate job a majority of people will vote for her to continue than a chance a someone new from the Party of Trump.

Where will republican primary voters go after the Trump loss?  It might be reasonable to assume most of them will think the system was rigged against Trump, and these voters will swing further to the right.  That might lead to a truly radical candidate in 2020.  But there are ways to head that off.  One way is to field a very charismatic centrist candidate from somewhere to pull voters back to the middle.  Dwayne Johnson is a republican that has toyed with the idea of running for president.  I mean, that might sound utterly nuts, but Trump is the nominee today, so nothing should be off the table.
I would love and hate for this to happen. Idiocracy come to life.

Prefer Rand Paul, okay with Paul Ryan at this moment.
This will be what, the 3rd time he'll be the the sensible conservatives' chatter guy before being complettely ignored at the polls? I honestly hope you guys actually get someone who is what you wish Rand Paul would be. Sometime during the lame duck period, FFA should model the Millennial Conservative, just for grins.

There's a better chance of Trump saying in his concession speech "I'm sorry for the damage I did to this country" than there is of the Republican Party nominating a black woman, no matter how qualified or likely to win the general.

I'm surprised he didn't get more traction this time. I kind of understood it before since he was low on experience, but he doesn't play well enough with others I guess to get much party support. You can go without party support if you're a billionaire egomaniac and can front everything on your own, but not so much if you're Rand Paul.

We have to believe that Hillary is dead politically now, right? There's no coming back from losing to Trump.

This is nonsense. Par for the course around here I guess.

I think Ron Fournier is in a fever dream. He's been right about a lot of stuff about the Clintons but it's over now.

Having said that just watch the DNC leadership race. If it's a Clintonian who gets the Chairman position then watch, but if it's Ellison or someone like that then you can be sure it's not happening.

I dunno...RF is not one to go for the quick buck shocking headline. I would say it has some legs; where (or if) it walks is another story.

That's why she tells them she may be running in 2020.
This was probably a joke when written but is likely quite true.  The Clintons are not going to stop their quest for money or power just because they lost one election.  They will just have to play dirtier now.

Wow.  Reading the first three pages of this thread is absolutely great now that we know the result.  One of the funniest threads in the forum.
