Why are Chris Johnson and Roy Helu top5 this week? (1 Viewer)

Both seem incredibly high. Helu has been on a downward trend going from 28 to 22 to 14 to 9 last week...Chris Johnson scored about 18 last week but if you watched the game it wasn't pretty. Both of them face decent rush defenses IMO, curious if the SP has any insight.

Thanks

Wondering the same thing myself.

Kevin Smith comes in at no. 6 too.

Helu: it was a nice ride but it sure sounds like he's worn down and Shanahan will be scaling him back, maybe for Royster?

CJ - who can trust him; Indy should have been "the" game, no?

Smith - Oak should have been a great matchup but not much there...

I also wonder if Peterson doesn't come back with a vengeance this weekend, but he's at no. 24.

Foster vs Indy is at no. 9.

I suppose they all have their challenges in that top 25 but... I guess I'd love to know the rationales.

Usually, I'd say wait for the rankings later in the week, but with the short week and the holidays, it's kinda tricky. I don't get these high rankings for guys that are clearly banged up or coming off injury. I suspect the rankings will move a lot depending on the practice reports. Of the 3 mentioned (CJ, Helu, Smith) I own only Smith in two leagues, and he's on my bench.

Im nervous as hell starting CJ this week especially with the ankle injury. unfortuately my only other option is jstew vs TB. Hopefully he practices but i dont get the high ranking either.

Both are banged up as well - from what I read Helu may be very limited the rest of the season because the Skins want to keep him healthy and while Johnson is likely to play there's still some uncertainty.

ESPN's Dan Graziano suggests that the Redskins could look to limit Roy Helu's (toe, knee) workload over the final two weeks.Helu was clearly banged up in Week 15, failing to explode or break tackles like he normally does. Afterward, coach Mike Shanahan sounded regretful about giving Helu 23 carries. While Helu is fully expected to start and be featured against the Vikings in Week 16, he's more of a low-end RB2. Dec 20 - 11:04 AM
Roy Helu (toe, ankle) was held out of team drills at Redskins practice Tuesday.Helu was dealing with several nagging injuries in Sunday's win over the Giants, including a knee ailment. He was able to go through position drills only on Tuesday. The Redskins may list Helu as questionable to face Minnesota. Dec 20 - 2:04 PM
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan revealed at his Monday press conference that Roy Helu was slowed by toe and knee injuries in Sunday's win over the Giants."Just a little beat up," Shanahan explained. Helu was clearly at less than 100 percent as he plodded to 53 yards on 23 carries, and spent the majority of his time on the sideline getting stretched out. A tough Week 16 assignment against the Vikings' 10th ranked run defense will get tougher if Helu doesn't make much progress during the week. Dec 19 - 3:15 PM

Yeah Helu's workload was unsustainable, especially for a rookie late in the season. I would expect his ranking to drop over the next few days.

Mendenhall isnt high enough either. He put up 80 yards against the toughest run D in the league. This week, he's at home with a gimpy QB against the worst run D in the league.

Early projections are always wonky. They change a lot over the next couple of days. A couple that stood out to me, mainly because they are on my team or one of my opponents' teams:

Chris Johnson (high)

New Orleans (Brees, Colston, Sproles at least) - low

B Celek (low)

I know Dez Bryant is playing Phily w/ Austin back and Robinson taking away targets, but the #74 ranked WR seems ridiculous?

Id love to here thoughts on this one.

I have Austin so love the high ranking but why such a difference between him Robinson and Bryant?

So this site is telling me to start guys like Jordan Norwood, Brandon 0 catch LaFell, TJ Houshyourmamma, Austin freaking Collie and Jarrett Dilliard to name a few over Dez for my Championship game ?Really ?Come on Man!That's terrible I would much rather lose my championship game with Dez in the line up then take a stab at these stiffs in my title game.

I'm in the champs game in 2 leagues; in one I have Robinson and in the other I have Austin and Robinson.I can tell you that Dallas's WRs, including when all 3 were playing, had a pretty rough time of it FF-wise the last time they played, which was in Philly. I may likely bench Robinson for Moss myself though not sure since Dal has been so good lately. But that prior game could be factoring into the first set of rankings.

No bias based on that log in name...lolI would tend to agree with you but Dez does not seem consistent when there are more mouths to feed. And Austin was in his 1st game back, I think he will do a lot better this weekend. Injuries have made people forget how awesome he is especially with other weapons to draw coverage away and allow him to work the spit out of the slot.

PPR.
He scored 18 in every league I compete in. You really needed to post that? How many folks compete in non PPR leagues or what is the % of non PPR leagues for FBGs? I'm guessing it's not a high %, what do you think Mr Summer?

And what are your thoughts about the two primary backs this thread was started on?
I think it was misleading. He only scored 10 in our league, which is almost half as much as what you are touting. Big difference. let's cool it, okay?

Bloom's are up. He has Chris Johnson quite a bit lower and the New Orleans guys quite a bit higher across the board. Celek is up almost 3 points from Dodds' early ranking too.

Going to trust Dodds on this one. Picked up Chastin West to start over Dez Bryant this week. Duece, nine and I'm all in.

Considering Helu's health status I would think he would be quite a bit lower. If he plays he will do well, but from what I understand his injuries may be a little more than the typical nagging injury.

Ya, I just dropped Dez Bryant for Austin Pettis on Dodds' rec. With third string Rams QB Kellen Clemens starting against that Pitt defense their should be plenty of touches and red zone opportunities to go around after Brandon Lloyd and SJax gets theirs. I mean, have you seen the offense StL has rolling out the last few weeks? You just have to compare TDs between Dez and Pettis this year to see the logic in this.

Pettis just got a 4 game suspension.Pettis gets 4 game suspension

lol at these rankings. how can people be expected to take them seriously if Dez is #74 and Foster all the way down at #9 vs Indy behind Helu and Smith?

I don't get why early projections are wonky. It isn't hard to figure out who has good matchups and who doesn't, and who's hot. Injury concerns can change things somewhat, but that shouldn't explain why rankings should change very much.Seriously, if they aren't thought through, they shouldn't be posted.

Doh!What next Dodds? I'll pay for some good advice on this one. Actually I already paid for it.

Actually the majority of the shark pool badgered Joe into doing early rankings and most said they would prefer poor quality quickly thrown together rankings over waiting another day or two.

Titans coach Mike Munchak acknowledged that Chris Johnson (ankle) will likely be at less than 100 percent Saturday.Johnson is expected to play, but the Titans are preparing backup Jamie Harper for more work than usual. "We're assuming Harper will get more carries than he normally would - just because we're assuming C.J. will be somewhat not himself," Munchak said. We'll know more after Thursday's practice, but for now Johnson is shaping up as a risky RB2.

you're forgetting that mendenhall sucks and splits time to boot. Redman will get a lot of those yards too. Plus it's gonna be 8 or 9 in the box all day with charlie batch at the helm.

agreed. I was thinking 'wow he must've had a lot of receiving yards. I didn't remember him getting that many yards on the ground. If you cite PPR u should say ppr and not just assume that PPR is the standard. I play in one PPR out of 3 and for rbs it is .5 ppr. anything else way overinflates the scat back and especially the failed screen pass. turns a 4 yard loss into a positive play. silly.

Having flashbacks to that playoff game against Baltimore. CJ on the sideline with a huge jacket on looking uninterested.

I think you have to go with CJ. If they split carries, you have to assume the CJ carries have more value. And if CJ is 80% I think he gets more than half. Isn't TN fighting for a playoff spot?

I don't like locking rosters so early.

Thanks IC. I agree but our league has wacky old rules.
