Why must the Lions do this to their fans? (1 Viewer)

Do the Lions fans have any reason to believe in their team?

I don't hate the Lions. I feel sorry for them. I started watching football with interest in the mid-60's. They have been pretty bad since then. When the Wayne Fontes era is the lead in your 40 year highlight reel ...well I think its wrong to kick a guy when they are down - unless its LHUCKS maybe.

I dunno know, they find someway to glllllllllllllllll it up badly and are generally snakebit - but the kind of snakebite that you bring on yourself ...

As a Browns and Bengals fan I identify somewhat. But at least each of my teams have had better runs (many, many runs).

The Lions are a bad team, not just this year, not just last year, but always. It is a management and ownership issue. Just like the Cardinals, just like the TX Rangers in baseball, just like the Clippers in basketball.

If ownership and management don't give a dern, then the franchise suffers.

That's one thing as a Cowboys fan I don't have to worry about. Yes the Cowboys may have gone through a long drought of not winning championships or even a playoff game. But no one can ever accuse Jerry Jones of not wanting to win.

I too feel sorry for Lions fans.

As long as the Ford empire owns the Lions they will continue to aspire for 7-9 seasons. Matt Millen is perhaps one of the worst GM/Presidents ever in the NFL and ole William keeps letting him come back.

They'l be a tease because of Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson, but in the end, their defense stinks.....always has, always will.

Of course they have hope. Every team does. Matt Millen could wake up with amnesia, Mr. Ford could snap out of his funk and get a real GM. Anything could happen.

This team is probably better than average, but with a below average O line. In the battle of attrition that the NFL season is, how can they expect to remain competitive with little depth, behind a sub-standard line?

Come again?

Everyone gives Kitna a hard time about his 10 win prediction last year, but they're not realizing that the Lions actually count pre-season wins. Looking at their schedule this year, there's no way they have a winning season. They could easily lose their last 5 or 6 games, its a tough stretch.

Actually, I like their first half schedule... could be like last year... get everyone excited and then crumble.

This year's team is a lot better than last year's, but they might not win more games. They were lucky to win some of the games they did last year. I thought that team was a 4-5 win team. This year's team could hit 8-8 if the stars align. My guess is the same 7-9 as last year.

I was impressed with how the lions out hit the Bengals. They might not be a great defense on paper but they seemed to make up for it with their intensity.

I think Rod Marinelli is a good hard nosed coach. I don't think he has the players to compete with the better teams, and depth is a huge issue. My biggest concern for them is the lack of a running game. I think Kitna will be chased around all season long and the Rb's will take a beating.

:blackdot: they have developed a lot of good young talent and the secondary is vastly improved over last year - which was the primary weakness. the front four are very solid and ernie sims is going to have a breakout year. watch the Browns game rerun on NFLN - he and many other lbs and secondary were all over the place. Gerald Alexander is turning into a nice player too. The D will be fine.

as someone else mentioned, the Oline is the problem. When a rookie is your best lineman, you are in trouble. but calvin and roy will do enough to score plenty anyways. they are a textbook 8-8 team that is 2 lineman away from a playoff team.

People act like they were 2-14 last year...yes they tanked down the stretch, but they still won 7 games and should have won 2-3 more easily. They are not a terrible team by any stretch of the imagination, and will very likely finish second in their division.

They have a legit chance to start out 4-0, and still not reach 8 wins. There's a good chance they lose their last 6.

The Lions are the 4th best team in their division. Minnisota could be an elite team of the NFC. Green Bay could be a playoff team. And the Bears defense is still very good enough to make them a decent team. The Lions offense will be pretty good, and their defense is improving but still has a ways to go. If Detroit plays well, they can be mediocre with 9-7 being top end prediction. More likely 6-10 or 7-9. The drought will continue for the most futile franchise in the NFL. The only team in the NFL with only ONE playoff victory over the entire SuperBowl era. Pitiful. Bring back Wayne Fontes?
