Awesome.

Also, the phrase "herding rabbis" will be entering my regular rotation.
Are they disorderly? Are they disobedient? Do they have directional difficulties? So many questions about this.
No, but 90yos have the most obtuse and intractable reasons for not doing the most obviously necessary things in most situations, by which I made the association. And crumbs fly out from their every hair and cranny in ways that can only be described as Talmudically ironic.

And, once again, a merrymerry to all the new old friends who logged howdies since i was last on.
My folks are 87 and 89 and they've lived with us for several years.

The decline seems to be accelerating.

THey are both lucid and engaging, but the memories are poor and short term memory almost non-existent for my mom.

I think maybe we should start a taking care of your parents thread where we can console and discuss the situation.

I'm happy to be doing it because they'd definitely be in assisted living if they were not here and that would be a SERIOUS downgrade in quality of life (for them)
my two least favorite things:

- they use age as an excuse constantly, but get angry and defensive when you agree.

- seem to be most gleefully irritating when you're at your most helpful, then tiptoe around your "anger issues" after it gets the better of you.

I wish raising them to their graves felt more heroic, but it's as lame as it is right.
Man... I wish I could find words like this.
:goodposting: Here's another beautiful turn of phrase from a few posts up that only wikkid could produce: "And, once again, a merrymerry to all the new old friends who logged howdies since i was last on."
You've lost your f'n mind.

Is this ####ing guy gonna tell us who won at bingo or not?
Mom's the only unlucky Irish bingo player in captivity. Used to be a 7card whiz but can only froghop 2 or 3 now. Tried to play with her once early on, but the bluehairs glared at me like a Muslim at a cartoon, so I went next door to the library.

I believe some individualized Krippling acknowledgement is in order here.

I think the only activity my folks really miss is playing the nickle slots. I'd still take them, but its at least four hours away and they really can't travel that far. THinking of buying an old slot machine and putting it in their living room.

Sexy man

Happy, haapy holidays and New year to you, old friend. Enjoy the syrup, so to speak.
Hey, kuddles - all the best to u & ur'n. VT still has more sap than meth cooks and our family has run batches continually for over 100 yrs. Goin up to the farm to sugar is my dad's Super Bowl Sunday.

Install an ol' pay phone - cheaper to buy & pays off every pull.

Great, then they'll be calling me even more to come over and fix the "broken" remote. They will never grasp the input select.

I totally agree, I've always appreciated and enjoyed beautifully crafted sentences and ones with simple elegance.

It's especially awe inspiring if Wikkid is just tossing off sentences like that without effort. :tebow:

ok, Christmas visit to sis and connectivity here in Boston is at an end - back to the frozen tundra for me. i hope vanity threads dont become a trend, but this is pretty much the only thread i'll be visiting when i check the FFA on my library visits (usually tues & fri). will be happy to respond in some way to any questions, comments, encomiums and belittlements you care to leave for me in the twixts. hookin back up with y'all has been a real holiday - hope i remain as valid in your hearts & minds as a faint presence as i was as a distant rumor. best to all -

Merry Christmas, FFAppers! Many are the times, whether due to my fond regard and nostalgia for my ol' boardmates or something Hannity-dumb one of them has written, i've wanted to break the 10K barrier, but i resisted. I havent had the mindtime necessary to keep good standing and thought a clean quit was the best way to go. My pal geewill has told me of a couple attempts to lure me back and i promised him i'd at least offer a xmas msg putting rumors to rest and at most offer to put up an "ask/tell wikkid" thread so i dont have to scan threads for the sacred and profane of the FFA in order to weigh in. So here I am - love and miss you all.

In service of writing the "one thing i HAVE to do before i die" and making up to my folks for my prodigal years, I moved to VT to care for them and retreat from media into work. Tending peeps in their 90s - one infirm, one insane - is a little like herding rabbis and the effect of being locked up with naught but their scared and stilted outlooks for entire VT winters is highly deleterious, but the quiet times are are the only ones quiet enough to do my work.

Won't bore with details, but the work is my attempt to write a "Wizard of Oz" for grownups - an attempt to axiomize my critique of our social aspiration, institutions, and excesses by capturing them in song. No easy task for someone who cant play a musical instrument, but 21 of 23 numbers are in the bag (words, tunes, chords for to turn over to a real tunesman to arrange/record) and the script - a pretty darn good batch of American Pythoning and trite moralizations - will be finished by spring, if i'm not in prison for smothering the peeps.

My health is better than rumored - more chronic than acute. Could 'splode at any time, but it presently dont feel like it will any time soon.

Have really but one bone to pick with humanity anymore and that is its rapid descent into selfishness and triviality. Be aware, be real, be kind. Please - for your own sake more than mine.

I answer my emails at the town library twice a week when i take mom to hairdressers and bingo. I dont have time to scan or even lurk but, if you want to start a thread where people ask/tell me stuff, i promise to fill the thread with pith as well and often as i can. A sincere thanks to those who've kept me in your thoughts and my best to you all -

A couple of your great "behind-the-curtain/backstage" insight stories from back in your TV or rock days are always dynamite to read.

No kidding. When I was 35, my wife and I had to take care of her 95 year old gramps. My wife's dad and aunt both passed so it fell to us. If we didn't have two kids, including a new baby, it would have been easier. It went on for about two years and was some of the best and worst memories I have. I don't envy you right noWikked, just dont go crazy yourself. I am also happy to see you checking in.

i pretty much told em all when i was last here - mostly in a "wikkidpissah stories" thread started long ago.

celebrity-wise, i was struck while watching the Kennedy Center Honors that i have had my arm around two of this yr's honorees (and i dont mean my 3some with Lily Tomlin & a ballerina - they didnt allow that kind of touching). i met Sting & Hanks in NM in the yrs after i got out of showbiz.

in the late 70s, cable tv in Albq consisited of CNN, HBO, scrambled porn (ive already professed my nostalgia for masturbating to erotic outlines that one discovers, during the every-7th-wave moment of image clarity, to be an elbow) public access & a music-video channel run by Monkee Mike Nesmith. the latter had maybe 8 videos in their rotation, so it was an event when they got a new one. excited was i to watch (in a video i surprisingly never saw when MTV came along) the channel's latest in which three beautiful tow-headed boys sang steroided ska as they walked up Mulholland strumming palm fronds. made a note of their name.

few wks later, i was cruising the UNM campus - i was 'rich' but barely past college age, so it was a candystore - and saw a postbill on a column advertising a concert by those tow-heads upcoming at the college gym. i decided to use the op to get a date with a ska singer i met in SF who was waaaay out of my league but might consider a night in the big city with the big weirdo if if meant some righteous tunage. bingo! she came down and we went out to the show. to our surprise, we arrived in time to watch them pushing the fold-out bleachers back in place due to weak ticket sales. in the band's memoirs of that tour, the 35-citizen audience who came to see them @ Johnson Gymnasium dwarfed those in appearances in upstate NY and such. The legendary XTC opened and were wonderful but definitely sit-down music for those who didnt know it but, the second the blondboyz came out, we wanted to dance. the girl & i started a movement to clear the folding chairs from in front of the stage and turned the concert into a sockhop. When the bassist/singer switched to this weird skinny standup electric bass, he started dancing with it like we were dancing with each other and the crew eventually ran him enough cable to come down and dance with us. before i knew it, i was in a ska-dance kickline with my arm around Der Stingelhoffer. good times......a yr & a half later, of course, the Police were playing football stadiums.

Mr Sumner seemed to enjoy watching others play his music at the Honors more than any performer ive seen on that show and made it amazing to anyone watching why so few have covered his material over the yrs. me and my best pal have done two of his Summoners Tales songs ("Its Probably Me" & "Shape of My Heart") every time weve gotten together for yrs.

My hour on the library computer is running out and i got emails and fantasy lineups to do. Tom Hanks story next time (let me know in the interim if ive told it here - i dont remember). lataplayas -

Thanks wikkid!! I now am gonna go search for the wikkid-stories thread!!

Hoping the Lily Tomlin 3-some story is in there and told at an uncomfortably graphic level.

ETA: link to wikkidpissah stories for those interested

I have great access. I wish I hadn't wasted it coming back to this thread every day for the last 34 months looking for a wikkid update.
