Gunderson helped lead the Eleva-Strum baseball team to its first ever state title in the program's first ever state tournament appearance. On a team where everyone contributed, the senior helped both on the mound and at the plate. In a 3-2 semifinal win over Pacelli, Gunderson did not get out and batted in the game-winning runs. He went three for three from the plate with two RBIs, two stolen bases, and a run scored. Gunderson scored the first run for the Cardinals in the fourth inning and his two RBI double in the sixth inning proved to be difference. Not only that, but Gunderson came in in relief on the mound and pitched the final four innings, striking out four batters and allowing just two hits as he recorded the win. In the following 11-1 win over Northwood/Solon Springs in the Division 4 title game, Gunderson went one for one from the plate with two runs scored, a walk, and an RBI. Over the span of two games, Gunderson went did not get out at the plate and pitched four scoreless innings, helping his team to its first state championship.

Voted for your guy over the girl from my boy's high school. My Oldest on Varsity did recently beat the Division 2 state champs in baseball.

I put him up 3431 to 3430.

Although I think the dude with the no hitter while going 4-4 should have a lot more than 222 votes. I think his marketing folks should be fired. hahaha

You do have a very good point there! Some absolutely incredible student athlete performances this week.

Another article on Carter:

6-3, 150 lbs. Better start putting on some weight. That is extremely thin. Sounds like he has some room to grow and has a shot at the next level. Good for him.

Eleva was originally named "New Chicago"

Then one year they were painting the new Elevator and it started snowing before they could finish painting the word...so now its just called Eleva. There's 600 people in town so New Chicago might not have been the most fitting.

So be thankful that at least your hometown is probably at least one whole word.

Its because Aquinas is a private school known for "poaching" players from around the area.

I would gather that may also be why Furley has similar feelings to Pacelli. Same situation.

I have found that these player of the week votes are all about who has the better marketing people trying to gather votes. It really has nothing to do with the actual performance of the players up for the award. Granted all players up for vote usually have a solid performance but in many cases the person with the best week doesn't win.

every year we hear the private versus public debate in every playoff for every sport but when we had wisaa everyone complained that there were public and private playoffs so i take it all with a grain of salt that people just like to complain take that to the bank brochachos

I had never heard of it until today, but I love that part of the state - its so beautiful. We've gone camping many times at Mill Bluff, Black River and Trempealeau.

I've lived in Wisconsin 50+ years and pride myself on knowing the state, but damn some of these cities I may have heard of but have no idea where they are located. Guess I'm stuck in the wrong corner of the state.

If you ever find yourself on the intersection of highways 10 and 93 in west central wisconsin, stop in to one of the town's 3 bars and have a ball. Lost Highway opens at 10 am for beer and liquor but you have to wait till 3pm for Flying Ryan's to open with a full menu.

If you live in the WI, IA, MN area the stuffed chicken breasts from Kwik Trip/Kwik Star are from Eleva.

It's not much, but it's all we got!
