Texas guys getting a little touchy here. ;)

I wish they would document whether Young is just stupid vs. having a learning disability. People with LD aren't stupid.

even if he has a learning disability, do you want a qb to have that?maybe the reason why he's so good in clutch situations is because he's too stupid to understand the gravity of the situation.

We need to know which 6 he got right because he could very well be so stupid that he got zero correct and lucked into getting 6 of the multiple choice questions correct. I will bet that if he missed all of the 1st 10 questions, that he scored a zero because it gets progressively harder.

Vince Young's true Wonderlic score is less than 6. GUARANTEED.

Vince Young scored a ZERO. Guessing correctly is not equal to answering correctly. Yep, just what you want running your NFL offense.

If, for example, he were dyslexic, how would that affect his play on the field? The vast majority of people with LD (of which dyslexia is only one type) have average or better intelligence. There are workarounds for dyslexia and so forth. He may have above average auditory memory as a compensation for a reading problem, etc. I think it makes a huge difference.

Here's a sample Wonderlic for those who might be interested.

this is easy. a 6 would be BAD!...real bad. I'm far from a genius and I only got 1 wrong. I don't know how "smart" you need to be, to be a good QB(or even a football player in general) But this would scare me as a GM.
This is stuff you should know in the 6th grade. He is either mentally ######ed or filled out the answer sheet in the shape of a surfboard like Jeff Spicoli.

FWIW, this is from CBS Sportsline:

The following rankings are the opinion of GM Jr Scouting LLC based upon film review and industry knowledge.

TOP 10 QUARTERBACKS FOR THE 2006 NFL DRAFT

1. Matt Leinart USC

2. Jay Cutler Vanderbilt

3. D.J. Shockley Georgia

4. Brodie Croyle Alabama

5. Brett Basanez Northwestern

6. Vince Young Texas

7. Charlie Whitehurst Clemson

8. Omar Jacobs Bowling Green

9. Kellen Clemons Oregon

10. Paul Pinegar Fresno State

Another number hat doesn't fit the hype.. he ran a 4.5 40.

That would be about right. I dont think anyway claimed Young has Vick type explosive speed. He has a very fluid and controlled motion while running, but I wouldnt think it faster than 4.5. In addition, he is not uber quick, ala Vick but can really move once he starts to get chugging.

If the NFL doesn't release Wonderlic results, why do we know them all from last year? And why are some of them (Vince Young and others) reported already for this year? Just leaks?

There are several reported in this article: Packer Insider article

D'Brickashaw Ferguson, T, Virginia: 6-6, 312. A solid top-five pick and easily the finest blocker in the draft. "He's as sure of a bet as anybody," one scout said. "He's an athlete and he's smart. He wants to get better. He was as impressive as any kid that I met this year. He asks the right questions." Had an average score (18) on the 50-question Wonderlic intelligence test but stunned his coaches at the Senior Bowl with his attention to detail and desire to learn.
Max Jean-Gilles, G, Georgia: 6-4, 358. Might be as physical as any lineman in the draft. Really went after people at the Senior Bowl and could be a late first-round pick. "He could go ahead of Joseph," one scout said. "He's a big, strong guy." Scored just 12 on the Wonderlic test and has been overweight for years.
Jay Cutler, Vanderbilt: 6-3, 226. Started every game for the last four seasons. "He's a big, stiff kid," one scout said. "I didn't like him at all. Not mobile. Not accurate." Finished with 59 touchdown passes and 36 interceptions. "Arm, toughness, accuracy, smarts (26 on the Wonderlic), competitive. . .
D'Qwell Jackson, Maryland: 6-0 1/2, 227. Steelers vice president Kevin Colbert said the crop of inside linebackers from top to bottom might be the best in 20 years, and Jackson is near the top. "He's instinctive and gets to the ball really well," one scout said. "His big question is how fast he is." A three-year starter with eight interceptions and 10 1/2 sacks. Scored only 12 on the Wonderlic.

You would appear to be the first level-headed defender of VY.. I agree with what you posted regarding fluid and controlled running. He is a stud athlete.I disagree when you say noone has made the claims regarding his speed... every other post is about VY being quicker, faster, and stronger than Vick. Ridiculous.

So it appears by the numbers we should now say he is slower and dumber than Vick... the strength/throwing area is where he can redeem himself - ERRR no wait he isn't going to throw! Haha good stuff.

My source is a shaky memory, but I remember seeing a show on ESPN in which an outside service perfomed a version of the Myers-Briggs test (personality traits) on prospective qb's. They went through under and over-achieving players to show the accuracy of the test. The test has 16 components with four outcomes.

They used Manning and Leaf as an example. Peyton, as well as Montana, had the number one personality style, while Ryan was near the bottom. I have read in this thread that Manning had a 28 on the Wonderlic and Leaf a 27. I would assume from these numbers that the leadership/personality score would be the better indicator for NFL success.

"If" Vince's score is a result of a learning disability his achievement of overcoming the disability is a major accomplishment. If he has a disability he would have, by law, received certain advantages at Texas. If he recieved advantages at Texas because he was a football player, then shame on the school.

I'm confused by the statement. I live in Austin, and I've heard for years that he runs a 4.5. I'm not sure how this is a surprise.

Fair enough - perhaps too many do think VY can do things that he really can not. I am not really a defender of him. He has great skills, but I have seen far too little to have confidence that he can perform as an NFL QB. Wonderful athlete, but I do not know if his athletic gifts are suited for the NFL, and if indeed he has this much trouble processing information, that would be a disaster at the NFL level for a QB in today's game.

He is bigger, and stronger without a doubt, and 4.5 for a QB of his size is just amazing.I'm not a VY supporter, but you seem to be doing the same things that you accuse the guys on the other side of. You're minimizing his positives here, and exaggerating the negatives.

Perhaps because two of the three most important aspects of being a successful NFL QB - intelligence and the ability to lead a team at the NFL level - are not at all known. An NFL QB has to lead in a different way, and part of that is having a complete understanding of what is going on out on the field. If Vince has a great arm, great legs, but not the ability to comprehend the game, the defensive schemes, the huge playbooks, weekly gameplans, then I do not see how he can succeed as a QB.

Fair enough as well.. I am not doubting his athletic ability - but I seriously doubt his abilities translate to an NFL QB.

It has not been reported by any official agency or news group that VY scored a 6. It has been reported by the trash tabloid magazine of football websites. Until is comes from a legitimate source, it is all BS.

As for the Vick comparisons, anyone who compares Young to Vick doesn't know what they are talking about. He is no where near a Vick type QB. Yes, he scrambles, but he is 6'5" and 225 lbs. A 4.5 40 at that size is unreal. He is much more comparable to Randall Cunningham than Mike Vick any day.

The Anti-Texas/anti-Cowboys bias is just a result of your jealousy. I don't blame you all though, if I were from somewhere other than Texas, or someone other than a Longhorns fan, I would be jealous too.

Nobody is jealous of Texas, guy. That's not exactly a place people grow up dreaming of moving to.

VINCE'S PICK-SIX IS CONFIRMED

We've confirmed that Texas quarterback Vince Young has indeed scored a measly six on the Wonderlic test, administered annually to the potential members of the draft class at the scouting combine.

Said one league insider, "It's also the number of the round he'll be drafted in."

There's a significant buzz in Indy regarding the ridiculously low marks. Though we're not quite sure that there's much of a correlation between book smarts and football ability, we've got a feeling that, of all positions, quarterback is the one that requires at least some basic cognitive ability.

Unless, of course, the offense consists of making one read and then pulling the ball down and running -- which is the very approach the team that drafts Young might have to employ.

Though the suggestion that Young will last until round six is an exaggeration, the thinking is that he lost millions of dollars via his poor performance on the test, and that it's now a virtual certainty that Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler will pass him in round one.

I like how they say it's confirmed, and then don't give an actual source to confirm it.Good shtick.

You would think that if Vince Young had an agent with an ounce of foresight.  He would have insisted that VY write a practice exam before the combine.  After all this will cost him a major chunk of change as well.
No it wont. VY draft status will not change. I would put money on it. Even if this story is true. That test means very little to anyone's success.
I will gladly accept your donation.

I don't give a #### about college football. I am only analyzing a player in terms of how he will project on the NFL level. My guess is a lot of people here are in that same boat.

But, if it makes you feel better to think that people are jealous, and not looking at a legitimate huge issue with some guy you have a man-crush on, be my guest.

OK, I'll give you that. My man love for Vince Young aside, many other QB scored craptastic scores on the wonderlic and still did ok. Randall Cunningham got a 14, Dan Marino got a 15. Kurt Kittner scored a 30+. Who would you rather have? Kittner or Marino? Pretty easy answer there.....

6 is just plain BAD

The report I read said that a score below 10 means the person is illiterate. If this is the case I think there should be a full investigation into the University of Texas. How can an illiterate person still get into college in this day and age? Culpepper had to go to a garbage school because he wasn't smart enough to get into a real college. He also took the wonderlic three times and maxed out at 15.
