We all like to brag about our successes, but let's talk about our failures.

My top 2 are...

1) Released Ray Rice halfway thru his rookie season in favor of the young, soon-to-be free agent, LenDale White.

2) Drafted the "higher upside" Robert Meachem over Brandon Marshall in rookie/FA draft even tho I had Marshall rated higher on my draft sheet.

I think I have made more good decisions than bad, but these 2 still hurt.

I can't remember the details and they've been deleted from the league site, but I gave away Priest Holmes at the worst time for Amos Zereoue and some crap. I never recovered from that in MOX1 until now. I'm now ready to make my move for a title in that league.

Traded two firsts round picks for Braylon. Followed up that error by trading two more first round picks for Eddie Royal.Btw ouch on number 1 op.

traded Sidney Rice and 2.03 for Tory Holt and 2.11...LAST OFFSEASON

still not sure what was going through my mind

Recent: dropped Miles Austin after like week 4 in 2010 (note he was on the WW a week going through a blind bidding session in a FBGs heavy league).

Picked him up in MOX1 then dropped him. Picked him up in Fantasy Legends III and then traded him for a 2nd rd pick for crying out loud !!!!!!!

Traded Brady + 3rd rounder for Cassel + 1st rounder last year in mid october.

Flacco had been outproducing Brady and thought it would continue.... Didn't make playoffs because of a few games I lost by the difference in Brady and Flacco.

I once shrewdly traded Drew Brees and the 1.04 for the 1.01. With the 1st overall pick I was able to grab superstar LOCK Charles Rodgers. At 1.04 the new Brees owner had to settle for Carson Palmer.

It will be hard to top this.

I traded Rodgers, Favre, and a future 1st rounder (which became 1.03 IIRC) for Bledsoe in a QB heavy league before TO's first season as a Cowboy. I had just made a side bet with one of the teams in the league and I badly needed an upgrade at QB1. I kinda knew Bledsoe sucked, but TO's QBs had always been money and I felt like that trend would continue. Favre was coming off a down year (he looked done) and the early tea leaves about Rodgers were pretty uninspiring.

Woops. Bledsoe lost his job, Favre resurrected his career, Rodgers eventually became the most valuable player in that league, and the draft pick became a very high one.

Worst deal I have ever made AINEC.

The only consolation is that I won the side bet and made a profit in that league. LOL.

Yeah, he was the off-season darling, then did nothing for 5 or 6 weeks and now you can't get him w/o giving a lung and first born.

1). I traded away half of my team inlcuding Warner and Gates to get the 1.1 so that i could draft the best RB to hit the NFL in a long time Darren McFadden.

2). Decided to trade Ray Rice for Derrik Ward last year during the summer because i was sure that Ward would catch 60 passes.

I just did a shot of Knob Creek in your honor :fishing:

Traded Marshall Faulk, Curtis Martin, Willis McGahee, Anquan Boldin, Jerry Rice, Freddie Jones, Julian Peterson in Feb04 for Kevan Barlow, Ahman Green, Shannon Sharpe and Al wilson

I drank the Barlow koolaid hard and he disappointed. Sharpe retired, and Wilson suffered the neck injury not long afterwards. I got one good year out of Sharpe but Martin came back to rush for 1600 yards and was a throw in

Best so far, wow.

4th best
traded Vjackson/1st for E.Royal/3rd
I'm not even sure how this one happened?

You have my condolences. Pray for the dead and the dead will pray for you. Simply because he has nothing else to do.

I only own 1 dynasty team so think about all these bad moves (seemed good at the time)

In 2008 I picked up Miles Austin to start the year...later released him around week 10 when he never played.

In 2009 I released Hartley when he got suspended figuring I would pick him up later. Week 1 waivers the Carney owner picked him up .

2004 I traded Bruce (StL) WR & 1st Round picks (2005 & 2006 & 2007) & 3rd Round pick 2004 (#30)

For Holmes (KC) RB & Smith (Den) WR

Holmes played I think 8 games for me before tearing up his hip. This trade sucked big time.

2006 I traded Williams (Car) RB & Gore (SF) RB & Clayton (TB) WR & Robinson (SF) RB & 2nd Round pick (2007) &

1st Round pick (2008) & 1st Round pick (2009) & 1st Round pick (2010)

for Tomlinson (SD) RB & Gates (SD) TE

Seemed like a great idea at the time when LT was scoring his 30 TD's but horrible right now.

My highest rated played when my pick came up in 2008 was Ray Rice and in 2009 Shonne Greene, can't wait to see what 2010 pick I blew.

2009 mid season the same week LJ got released I traded Charles (KC) RB & 4th Round (2011) & New Mexico’s 4th Round (2011)

For Boldin (Arz) WR

Wow this makes me want to puke now everytime I think about it.

2003 I owned the #3 pick and dealt it away (would have turned into Andre Johnson he was the player I had rated highest when 3rd pick came up)

I traded Holt (StL) WR & Chambers (Mia) WR & Abraham (NYJ) DL &

A-Freeman – WR & 1st Round pick (#3)

For James (Ind) RB & Robinson (Sea) WR & Peterson (Chi) RB & Peppers (Car) DL

Traded for Reuben Droughns and two 2nds for a future 1st...that would turn out to be ADP....

I traded Michael Turner for Kevin Smith and a 1.11...

Reading these make me
How about yours? I know you have some skeletons in your closet unless you're a newbie. Everyone has a story, even the best at this hobby.
:kicksrock: I have seen the best owners I know make brutal trades. There is no way you can be a serious player and never make bad trades sometimes. I traded Frank Gore after his rookie season for the next great shiny toy, Vernon Davis. Then held Davis for 3 years. Then traded him for a 4th round rookie pick before last season. A couple of years ago, I traded Greg Olsen and Steve Breaston for Donald Lee and Reggie Brown. :lmao: There's more, but those popped in my head first.

2006

Traded Reggie Wayne for Troy Williamson and Lendale White

2009

Traded Ray Rice, DeAngelo (his breakout year), MSW, Gates for Ronnie Brown, Dwyane Bowe, and Roy Williams, 1.04 pick

This is a great thread!

I learned the lesson of being patient with young players when I traded Vincent Jackson/Santonio Holmes for Plax and a throw in 2007.

I just pissed on myself.
They don't call him Fantasy Trader for nothin'.And there are special adult undergarments available for just such an occasion JU. (also for the very lazy drunks on a weekend bender)I've only been doing dynasty for about 3 years now, but last offseason (pre-draft), in my infinite wisdom, I decided to finally cut bait on Kolb after sitting on him with McNabb for 2 yrs. together. Just HAD to keep K. Faulk, L Moore, and M. Moore on the roster - just in case. :kicksrock:

i physically with my eyeballs watched DeAngelo Williams play in college live and in person several times (live near Memphis)

i KNEW he was more talented than Addai and Maroney and had a sneaky suspicion that he was as better or equal to RBush

he was the best pure RB i've ever seen live even all the Vol RBs CGarner/Henry/JLew and visiting SEC teams at Knoxville that I had seen

in several dyno leagues and in many that year had either sucked enough to have a good pick or traded into one

spent many months reading message boards listening to how wrong my instincts were

DeAngelo went AFTER my pick in six leagues, in those leagues i have in his place RBush (nonPPR) x2, Maroney x3, Addai x1

the above hurts emotionally more but the below trade was a much worse mistake:

turned down Michael Turner and a 1st and 2nd for LT right before MTurner signed with ATL

This should be called the misery loves company thread - awesome.

Last off season traded Braylon Edwards, Jeremy Shockey and Ray Rice for Dallas Clark and Eddie Royal. Clark is still with my team but I ditched Royal a few weeks ago for a 2nd round pick next year...

stoopid Ray Rice...ok...stoopid me...

Released Tiki Barber after the Giants drafted Ron Dayne

I've never had a disastrous trade like one I made last year. In a 14 team league with quite a few FBGers, I was the 3rd place team just 2 years ago. Last year, I finished dead last. A big reason why?

I gave: Schaub, Matt HOU QB;Smith, Kevin DET RB;Clark, Dallas IND TE

I got: O'Sullivan, J.T. SFO QB;Perry, Chris CIN RB;Watson, Kenny CIN RB;Smith, L.J. PHI TE

Of course, at the time, there was talk of Schaub getting benched, Kevin Smith WAS benched, and Dallas Clark hadn't done much leading into the last 2 years. JTO was doing well, Chris Perry was finally gonna end up with the job, and LJ Smith was off to an ok start but was an insignificant piece.

Did I mention this is a 1.5 ppr for TE league? By the end of the year, ALL THREE of the players I received were on the WW. Keep in mind that this was 2008, so at the end of the year, Kevin Smith had tremendous value and we all know where Schaub and Clark were valued. I'm still recovering.

The team I traded with? Was last place that year and ended up winning it all last year.

I'm still constantly hearing about that trade. It wakes me up some nights in a sweat. :bag:

I don't recall making major blunders (me = denial), but all my worst mistakes seem to be at QB.

Cutler for Campbell

Warner for Vince Young AND my first rounder (turned into 1.12, so I'm not too sad)

Philip Rivers for ... something I don't even remember

Dropped Kolb to waivers last year so that I could cling on to my #1 kicker during his bye-week (or some such). In my defense I broadcast a request for a 3rd round 2010 rookie pick before dropping him.

In the original dynasty draft In '07, after drafting Peyton and Addai in the 1st and 2nd round (1.11 and 2.02 if I recall), I followed my plan to trade back up into the top of the third and draft the last of my tier 2 WRs. There were 2 that dropped to tha slot. R. Wayne and Holt. Well; I didn't want to be a complete homer, so after having every friend I have tell my I was overthinking things....I draft Holt. Who I think has had maybe 100 catches in the last 3 seasons instead of the 100+ he'd put up in 3-4 consecutive seasons prior to that.

I still catch he'll about that everytime I start talking fantasy with a couple buddies. Meh

In 2008 I traded my 2.1 and a future 3rd rounder for Brandon Jackson.

The 2.1 was Felix Jones. I don't care what the 3rd rounder was.

I've made more than my fair share of bad trades, but none as bad as this:

In 2005

Received the "sure thing" Mike Williams(Detroit Lions WR), Roydell Williams and Michael Turner

for

Some guy named Larry Fitzgerald :lmao:

Thank God Turner became what he has, otherwise I may have retired from fantasy football. Truth of the matter is I probably could have gotten turner for a 4th round rookie pick at that point in his career!

I still blame Matt Millen for being such a moron and making me think Williams was actually worth the 10th overall pick.

Last year preseason I traded Miles Austin, Ray Lewis, Peanut Tillman and a 2nd round rookie pick for Donovan McNabb and Antoine Winfield

To make matters worse I then traded McNabb and David Harris for Kyle Orton, Kevin Williams and EJ Henderson because I was sure Orton would be a serviceable QB. :lmao:

Sometime last year (pretty late sadly) i sold high and bought low.

I gave Sidney Rice for Lee Evans

Before the season started last year in high performance TE league, I found a sucker to overpay with a 2nd a 3rd and a top S in KPayne for a 4th, 5th and Jermichael Finley

Traded Gore for Barber and McGahee at the start of the 08 season (Was enamoured with Barber's playing style more than anything without thinking of the fantay impact when he would become the number 1)

Also traded Carlson for Fred Davis just after the rookie draft. Doesn't look too terrible now, but I dropped Davis just before he broke out (Drafted Finley that year as well now that I think about it - Dropped of course)

A few observations before my own story.

1) Beware trading reliable vets in their prime for high rookie picks who are a "sure thing." Caveat: if you have a horrible team and are rebuilding from scratch, but you don't want to get in a habit of doing this too often.

2) Beware trading your upside players for OLD players--ala the Holt deal.

3) Beware giving up on a high draft pick before they have had a few years to develop. Need to show patience and remember why you drafted them in the first place.

4) Beware making an "emergency" trade where you end up giving up too much just to get a deal done to fix a perceived emergency.

My story: I traded Andre Johnson in 2007 for Shaun Alexander--as an emergency move. I thought I could make the playoffs and I had Kevin Jones and Ronnie Brown and one of them got hurt. It was early in the season and we still thought that Alexander could return to the 1400 yard form and there were good reports about his physical health. The good thing is I managed to unload him after a few weeks, because I lost those games and was out of playoffs, and managed to get a 1.5 that turned into Ray Rice and Michael Bush.

Which leads to

5) Beware trading WRs in their prime, especially in PPR leagues and/or flex leagues where you can start a lot of WRs. WRs have longer careers and a guy who is a reliable 1200 yards plus is worth a ton.

I've definitely made some bad trades (last year, traded Ray Rice for S Smith NYG when Smith blew up and J Lewis was scoring TD's)... but that's somewhat understandable - I needed the WR, and Rice was still nowhere near what he is now.

Easily though, the worst move ever was drafting Eddie Royal at 1.12 in a dynasty startup last year. It was in the thick of the WR lovefest, and they flew off the board - I felt I had to have me some WR's, and Royal was coming off that 90-catch year, and had talk of becomeing the "Broncos Welker" - I felt he was as safe a pick in a PPR league as there was. Oops.

Never recovered from that - finished dead last. To make it worse, during the draft, I traded my 2010 rookie #1 and my 2010 dev pick too (for nothing special, really) - of course, both ended up #1. Terrible start.

Made a few better deals this offseason, and the team is looking better now, but still...

just before last season, there were rumblings LJ was looking good, Addai was gonna lose his gig, I loved Eddie Royal and this is what it got me.

My team gave up Collins, Kerry TEN QB;Addai, Joseph IND RB;Jackson, Vincent SDC WR;Smith, Steve NYG WR; Year 2010 Round 2 Draft Pick

For: .

Johnson, Larry KCC RB;Royal, Eddie DEN WR; Year 2009 Draft Pick 3.07;Year 2009 Draft Pick 4.04

Still ended up winning the championship, but I sure wish I could take that one back

Add me to the group who picked up Miles Austin on waivers, then cut him a week before he blew up. I panicked when Eli Manning hurt his foot and didn't want to get stuck with only one QB (McNabb, who has his own injury history), so I picked up Derek Anderson who had his one and only decent week last year the week before. And I was weak at WR to begin with. Kept me out of the playoffs.

I've never made a bad dynasty/keeper trade..........they all work out in the end.

jk....give me a few to think about it....

My two biggest dynasty mistakes were simply me being me....AN IDIOT.

I missed getting Ryan Grant off the waiver wire years ago because I goofed and put in more bid bucks than I had cuz I was looking at someone else's bid bucks.

I told myself for weeks leading up to week 1 of last year that I had two open roster spots to fill after waivers opened, and Mike Wallace and Pierre Garcon were the two guys I was after. I forgot, didn't pick them up, and didn't realize the goof I made until I saw two other guys grab the players off the wire. As much as I love that team in my sig, i'm gonna regret that goof in that league for years.
