Worst early-round pick your team has made (1 Viewer)

I said in the other thread that the Redskins haven't been very good in the late rounds, but they have been pretty solid in the early rounds. Here are their top 2 picks each year back to 1999:

1999: Champ Bailey, Jon Jansen

2000: Lavar Arrington, Chris Samuels

2001: Rod Gardner, Fred Smoot

2002: Patrick Ramsey, Ladell Betts

2003: Taylor Jacobs, Derrick Dockery

2004: Sean Taylor, Chris Cooley

2005: Carlos Rogers, Jason Campbell

I think Taylor Jacobs is the winner here, followed closely by Rod Gardner.
Jacobs was a 2nd rounder. Gardner gets the nod.Pre-'99, though, the 'Skins had a very poor first round history.

1991 Bobby Wilson

1992 Desmond Howard

1993 Tom Carter

1994 Heath Shuler

1995 Michael Westbrook

1996 Andre Johnson

When the best of your first rounders over a six year period was Michael Westbrook, I think you've got some serious problems. Johnson, a Penn St. OT, didn't even make it thru training camp with the team. :bag:

Wow, there have been a ton of players drafted by Oakland that could land up on this list....

2003 Teyo Johnson 2.31 (Jason Witten went 6 picks later)

2002 Phillip Buchanon 1.17 (Javon Walker went 3 picks later, Ed Reed went 7 picks later, Lito Sheppard went 9 picks later)

2001 Derrick Gibson 1.28 (Chad Johnson went 8 picks later)

2000 S. Janikowski 1.17 (Shawn Alexander went 2 picks later)

1997 Darrell Russell 1.2 (Walter Jones went 4 picks later)
IMO the Raiders 2003 and 2002 drafts were awful2003

Asomugha and Brayton are not 1st round talents, albeit late 1st. Teyo in the 2nd and Fargas in the 3rd. :X Doug Gabriel in the 5th was the only decent draft choice that year.

2002

Buchanan and Nap Harris in the 1st never panned out and are not even with the team. Although Harris was an immediate stater at MLB for the team and had a promising future until he injured his knee, then he was part of the Randy Moss deal with Minnesota. Buchanan did make some big plays but he is a liability in coverage.

Langston Walker in the 2nd has been a starter for a couple years but never considered a dominant tackle.

Ronald Curry in the 7th round was the only bright spot.

1999- OL Matt Stinchcomb in the 1st...not good.

1996- 1st round TE Ricky Dudley, all the athletic ability in the world, but couldn't block and consistently dropped passes.

1993- S Patrick Bates, another safety taken in the 1st round by the Raiders who couldn't cover anybody (see Derrcik Gibson)

1991- 1st round QB Todd Marinovich, he is to the Raiders as Ryan Leaf is to the Chargers.

Colts:

All time? There isn't enough space on FBG servers...

Recently? While not a "bust" (finally), Dallas Clark was still a major waste of a #1 and a freakin stupid pick, and not just in hindsight. GDB drafting a TE2 when your D has more holes than Owens' head.

AS a PAcker fan for the last 20 years, there have been many a bust:

Lets stick with the 1st round shall we?:

In no particular order:

Brent Fullwood, RB: # 4 overall pick, this guy is lucky all people remember of the 80's Packer draft busts is Mandarich. Fullwood was absolutely atrocious.

Tony Mandaric, OT: # 2overall pick: People rail the packers for taking Mandarich over several other players, but every scout thought this guy was a can't miss prospect. And I think he would have been fine . . . if he just stayed on the juice and whatever else it was he was taking.

Jon Michels, OT: Horrendous player. One of Wolf's worst picks.

Jamal Reynolds: Wow was this guy terrible. Can't really say he had any positive contributions.

How about every WR Tampa Bay has ever drafted in the first three rounds...

2004 Michael Clayton (a good rookie year, and I guess we'll have to wait and see)

2002 Marquis Walker

1998 Jacquez Green

1997 Reidel Anthony

1993 Lamar Thomas

1992 Courtney Hawkins

1991 Lawrence Dawsey

1989 Danny Peebles

1987 Mark Carrier

1980 Kevin House

1979 Gordon Jones

Between the lot of them they have one average career with 4 seasons of 1000+ yards and 3 seasons of more than 5 TD's.

Basically any team that has been at or near the bottom for years has had tons of flameouts. Sometimes it's not the teams fault as these players have blown out knees ie Kijana Carter........

Talk about a bad draft...

Ron Bordges on the 2001 Draft.

"NEW ENGLAND D- :You hate to fail anybody who shows up for class but what are they doing? If you didn't know better, you'd think the Jets sent Bill Belichick north to destroy the Patriots from within. On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson or the second-best tackle in the draft in Kenyatta Walker, they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1½ sacks last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon..."
