WR Brandon Aiyuk, SF (1 Viewer)

They were definitely fleeced on the DJ move no matter how Khan and the boys want to spin it. He was a bargain at the price he was asking. Wait until Pickens pulls this move next off season. Bank on it 100% if he doesn't get his 30mil.

Among the usual news guys, it is definitely not my imagination that people have caught up with Schefter. I felt like 90% of the breaking news came from him. But a lot of the other guys have been scooping him this year
I never understood why people care (not you massraidrer) about who gets the scoop. It’s not like Schefter/others are doing some Pulitzer-level investigating. Seems like something those in media care about waaaaay more than the public. Maybe it’s just me?

As if without Schefter’s reporting we wouldn’t find out until week 1 that Aiyuk is actually donning a Patriots helmet!
Right?

Like, when a deal happens, it will be reported.

Before a deal happens, everyone is just guessing.

But to the ones doing the guessing, they build their reputation on scoops. To the average fan, not one fancy F is given.
They are celebrities. People gossip about them, this guy has contacts, this guy doesn't. I love making fun of Rapaport.

I think the entire sport info rumor thing is saturated, and there are a TON of people getting engagement that aren't remotely vetted. Let alone the kindaaaa legit guys, who have a terrible batting average. There's a ton of kinda fringe media guys who wanna grab a little screen time.

You can follow the beat writers, PFT, the top few news guys, and you are going to get everything as fast as anyone else. If someone else proves themselves, great. But Schefter never tweets what is GOING to happen, and then never does. That's legitimate. But I think most people don't really care if a rando is legit or not, worst case it's a talking point.

And it’s just so, so easy. He makes himself an easy target. He’ll be so shamelessly, confidently wrong and then just plow ahead to be confidently wrong again.

I want that kind of job. lmao

Totally, especially in the era of Xwitter where they’ve eliminated the verification system, so any jabrony can buy a blue check and pretend to be a real source, and use shenanigans without repercussion.
No offense to our @jabarony, of course.

Yeah - the only real damage is the 6 pages of useless discussion on a site like this.

Legit breaking news:

On the radio they’re playing sound from Mike Garofolo who just reported that that there is positive momentum between the 49ers and Brandon Ayuk.

So weird since Pittsburgh was a done deal per “sources”.
And more sound just came up suggesting the 49ers upped the guaranteed $ in the 11th hour.

if accurate, this entire thing sounded like a master class by the 49ers in showing Aiyuk
1. How limited his destination options are
And
2. What the 49ers learned from Bosa taking them behind the woodshed last year.

We’ll know soon enough I guess.

I like what George Pickens brings to the table. Excellent hands, ability to make contested catches and very athletic. Ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47. He just needs to refine his route running.

Roman Wilson should do well in this offense once he's healthy. Geore could say I'm your only good receiver. Omar should counter with a cough Roman and then next WR I draft. ;)

From The Insiders on @nflnetwork: The #49ers and Brandon Aiyuk aren’t that far apart on a deal, which is why they haven’t pulled the trigger on a trade to the #Steelers and Aiyuk is still hoping they can clear one final hurdle in the negotiations.

Yep - that’s what I’d reported earlier. They played the Garafalo sounder.

My guy Rickey is going to be fun with this one.

1. He’s not right yet.
2. I detest people who talk about themselves in the 3rd person.

For sure he's not right yet. He's already won on this. He was saying PIT from the get and lots of people called him a clown and it looks like it could be PIT. Sure, SF could change that prediction. Rickey isn't omnipotent. But he was right in PIT was making a big play there. If Aiyuk signs with SF (which I think is more likely than a move) none of that changes for how much attention the NFL world pays to him on the next thing.

But he was already there on that.

Can't help you with #2.
I mean, to be fair, I could go on twitter and say the world is round and lots of people will call me a clown. It's not exactly a bastion of logic and reason. I feel like most people who are actual insiders had the Steelers as a potential landing spot from the jump, maybe not the favorite, but definitely one of the top 2-3 options. It doesn't really feel like this guy did anything here other than claim a deal was done nearly a week ago when it obviously wasn't. I did (unfortunately) go check his twitter after he got brought up in this thread for the 20th time, and he does come off like a clown desperate for attention and not because of his "takes". Pretty much your standard for most social media "influencers", which I think is much more what he is at this point that any kind of legitimate news source. Sounds like he had some insider info for the draft, but realistically IMO he's the exact type of person I'll never follow or give clicks to (again) because he comes off like a jerk

Awesome. I'll never try and change anyone's mind about who they listen to.

My take is that Aiyuk going to Pitt all depends on what SF gets back besides the draft pick.

Exactly. It's why all this is so difficult to predict. The GMs and Players control this.

It's the same idea with draft value. Most players have some value. It's how much. You might not draft him _______ but you would draft him at ______. Same here. There are other components in the deal. Including of course salary.

Pittsburgh was a done deal per “sources”.

Do you have a link?

Do you mean Rappoport's report?

I understood that to be a deal is in place and if SF gives the final sign-off, then it's done.

Update on Brandon Aiyuk:-- The Steelers and #49ers have a deal on a potential trade and PIT is in a good place on an Aiyuk contract, sources say. If SF gives the final sign-off, it's done.-- SF has an offer out to Aiyuk on a long-term deal for him to stay. He hasn't accepted.

Can you share the links for it being a done deal?

maybe it's cuz i have no skin in the game, tho I guess at one point the brown were in the picture...

but even then, this was a story i cared little about. just not the type of player that really tickles me for starters... and secondly, think it's all but sure he's staying in SF.

but, i've been wrong maybe one other time in my life... but even that sounds wrong.

This reads like you and I have verbally agreed to a deal on a FF trade. I send you the trade offer in Sleeper/MFL. It's done unless you renege and don't follow through.

I can't imagine a professional GM doing this, but maybe I'm wrong. Their name would be mud in the league.

He's staying. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from a guy who knows a kid who's going with the girl who saw him and Kyle in a warm embrace at 31 Flavors last night.

Can anyone think of any recent examples of players who have done what Aiyuk is doing this offseason, and went on to have a big season that year?

I was being facetious, since your boy Pretty Ricky indicated that it was a done deal & would be completed by the end of yesterday.

But then again he’d also said Lamb received a $33M a year extension a while back and deleted that tweet when it proved to be false. Exactly as I’ve said he does. Screenshots and everything.

I never said it was a done deal. I’m just going off of your boy Ricky.

Yep. Legit sports writers I respect & twitter users alike have called him out for deleting tweets.

He recently put one up claiming the Cowboys & Lamb signed and extension for $33M a year, then when that proved to be false he deleted if and never spoke of it again.

not my cup of tea.

Yikes. All good.

If you want to continue the Rickey talk, please shoot me a PM. For this thread, let's get it back to Aiyuk.

@JosinaAnderson

Adding what I'm hearing: My understanding is the #Steelers believe an agreement is currently* complete on their* end-- and "has been" for an unspecified period now--to trade for WR Brandon Aiyuk, but that the organization is still waiting for final approvals from the #49ers, per source.
@Rapsheet
was 1st to report this update.Additionally, when I asked about the reason for the ongoing delay in officially consummating a deal, I gathered from the rhetorical questions in response-- that there's lingering curiosity on whether San Francisco is still reviewing its options and leverage. Again I'm told, "it's a waiting game."

Jerry is usually connected with 49ers stuff.

That said, I have no idea what his relationship is with Aiyuk.

I’ll say this - I heard TJ Whosiswhatsis yesterday, and it sounds like he’s having an oversized influence on the situation. My impression after listening to him was that it’s likely worse for his involvement.

Purely my opinion.

The way I am reading this: The Steelers have offered the 49ers a deal and have negotiated a deal with Aiyuk.
The 49ers said something along the lines of "that sounds good. let me think about it". . . now the 49ers either have to officially say yes or sign Aiyuk themselves. . . .

Are the 49ers truly trying to sign Aiyuk? Part of me says yes, but then part of me says that if they were willing to pay him and meet his demands, this would have been done a long time ago.
So. . . are the 49ers just holding him and not saying yes to the Steelers, hoping the Steelers will get nervous and sweeten the pot???

I have no idea. I feel like we're at the same spot we were a few days ago

If the sticking point was really guaranteed money, and the Niners dragged this thing out into the middle of August with it being a major distraction and not having BA on the field, I'd call it anything but a master class.

This has likely been mentioned previously... but if the 49ers were at this point prior to the draft, I think a deal is already done. But because we are now in training camp and post draft... draft picks do NOTHING to help the 49ers this year. They don't want to give up a player now, for draft pick compensation only and diminish their team for the upcoming season.

All that said... they may end up giving in when they are presented with no other option.

I believe the 49ers and Steelers have had talks.

I believe the Steelers now know that they’re the *only* option, and aren’t offering the best package for Aiyuk.

I believe that inspired the 49ers to improve their offer to Aiyuk.

I also believe a lot of this was an exercise in educating Aiyuk about the market, what it will bear, and where he’d potentially be playing if a deal were made.

Originally this whoooooole thing started when Aiyuk’s g/f IG’d about it. Then Aiyuk said the 49ers didn’t want him (based on the offer they’d made, but after other WRs received more)

Aiyuk is on record saying he wants to play in SF. He loves it there. He knows it’s a special situation with a win-now vibe.

But he wants to get paid. And at this point I believe there’s some face-saving to the equation as well. It’s dragged on long enough that if he merely accepts the original offer, he “lost the deal”, and wasted everyone’s time and energy for nothing.

So at this point I believe the 49ers have made some concession - added more guaranteed, or some incentive-related $, or something. And that gives Aiyuk an out. He can accept that, stay where he wants, and still get a win.

Like you, I’m speculating. But that sure seems like what’s going on here.
I have no idea. I feel like we're at the same spot we were a few days ago
Same. And it’s maddening that’s it’s gone on so long.

As for this new fare up, I’m pretty sure agents are leaking stuff to guys like Rappaport to get the discussion public. We’re all being used to foster discussion in attempt to pressure whichever parties to cave.

I just don’t see that as very productive.

Al Sacco making sense:

To trade away their most productive offensive weapon from 2023, their quarterback's favorite target, would be silly at any time -- but especially so this close to this season, when there is little time to onboard replacement receivers or adjust the offense to Aiyuk's absence.

If the sticking point was really guaranteed money, and the Niners dragged this thing out into the middle of August with it being a major distraction and not having BA on the field, I'd call it anything but a master class.
It’s not the Niners who dragged anything out.

Remember: Aiyuk is currently under contract. The 49ers had zero obligation to entertain an extension or a trade.

They went out of their way to do both.

There was reportedly a deal in place with the Pats, who were willing to pay Aiyuk $30M a year to play in New England.

Aiyuk rejected it. Putting that on SF is a little odd.
