WR Brian Thomas Jr., JAX (2 Viewers)

Gonzalez is not shadowing him. He should have opportunities today.

As usual, Lawrence only has eyes for Engram and freaking G. Davis.
 
Brian Thomas Jr. caught all five of his targets for 89 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars’ Week 7 win over the Patriots.

Thomas Jr. added two rushing yards on two carries. The rookie got back on track in a big way in this game with team highs across the board. He picked up the bulk of his yards on a 58-yard dime down the middle of the field from Trevor Lawrence. His touchdown came on a six-yard strike in the red zone. the Jags used BTJ on screens, carries, deep shots, and more. Had they thrown more than 10 times in the second half, Thomas Jr. could have posted a game-breaking stat line. He will flirt with a WR1 fantasy ranking for his Week 8 matchup with the Packers.

Another solid game and in better script could have posted monster numbers. Definitely moved up the passing hierarchy after a Engram-heavy last game.

Ahh, Natalie Miller. IIRC, she’s not a great sportswriter or has to work in sort of a chop shop setting. I recognize the name and picture.

He’s 6’2 7/8”, or 6’3” if you round up. But it’s not that she’s wrong; it’s that he’s universally written as 6’2” or 6’3”, or if you’re the NFL Network, he’s 6’2 7/8"

I traded for him in Week 4 or so before the ship had totally sailed, and I’m happy I did.

Here's to hoping C. Kirk gets traded to funnel even more targets to Thomas.

He even had 2 running opportunities last week.

With all the talk of MHJ and Nabers, this guy could end up being #1 in this receiving class and a total stud down the stretch. Probably a 2nd rounder next year.

This guy is opening up things for the Jags and they’ve figured out that they should use him. It’s really a nice marriage, so I hope they keep winning for Thomas’s FF sake. He could wind up topping MHJ and Nabers when all is said and done this year because he’s much more advanced than the scouts thought, he’s got speed to burn at that size, and he’s got (despite all the heat that the guy gets, I believe in what I’m about to say) a good quarterback in Trevor Lawrence delivering him the football.

I will say that if Kirk leaves you’ll never see this guy not bracketed by a safety. Might be careful about taking his teammates away even in wishes. Plus, the Jags keeping on winning is a good recipe for Thomas’s individual success. A rising tide lifts all boats.

True, but I like what they are doing moving him inside vs. sticking him outside on the perimeter at all times. They finally woke up and starting moving him around, putting him in motion, etc. They realize he has to be a focal point of the offense.

Yeah, Matt Waldman went over this in a subscriber section (or I saw it elsewhere—yesterday was Brian Thomas day for me) of the website. I’ll try and find it.

  • Thomas is a developing match-up player, which means the receiver does as much or more than his teammates to get open. He's a good route runner who can set up defenders in man-to-man coverage without play-action or misdirection.
  • As a match-up receiver, Thomas will be the first or second option in progressions more often than Davis--who will likely be first or no better than third in the pecking order.
  • The combination of Thomas' speed and growing man-to-man expertise gives him the potential for weeks where he leads the team in yardage, touchdowns, and/or receptions--potentially all three categories.
  • Thomas has shown refinement with man-to-man routes, zone routes, and transitioning from receiver to runner.
Thomas has the skills to become a foundational player for your builds.

Not worth the hedge cashout on these bets yet, but the odds have cut in half for both of them. ROTY still a long shot with how well Daniels has been playing, but I think the yardage bet is looking to be a solid payout. Would at least cover all my league buy-ins haha.
 
Anyone got what BTJ's target share is on the team so far? I expect it to increase as the season goes, but I cant find any site that has it.
 
I desperately want to get him in my lineup, but always seems to be the 3rd man out. I'll have to wait until bye weeks become an issue, hopefully the momentum continue to increase.

Just go to pro football reference. Divide his targets by the teams total.

45/211 = .213

He has the most targets in the team so far this year but engram just got back. So we'll see how it goes.

Always battling with London / Achane ... things may change soon. The offence seems to be turning in the right direction.

I'm with you in a couple really good redraft teams of mine. My big auction home league we start only 2 WR with 1 FLEX and I've been rolling Metcalf McLaurin and Flowers (with Dell Doubs and Jameson options as well). Now that Metcalf is likely out and Flowers banged up it's finally academic this week. I have one very stacked dynasty team that has some stupid good studs on the bench each week and he's been one of them but it hasn't mattered.
 
Same boat for this week. It's a good problem to have but a difficult decision to make. Have to start 3 out of Kupp, Hill, Higgins and BTJ.

Yeah, I guess I’m lucky that DK and Evans are out. BTJ is a lock to start for me. Didn’t start the year that way but he’s my top WR now, above Garrett Wilson.
 
This draft class is eerily reminiscent of when Chase and Jefferson, LSU teammates, were drafted. Chase was the top 6 pick while Jefferson was picked 21st. This year, Nabers was top 6 and BTJ was picked in the 20s.

Yet, it's quite possible BTJ turns out to be the better pro, just like Jefferson has. Perhaps Chase wasn't better than Jefferson in college- perhaps Jefferson was just a better teammate that was OK with letting Chase shine a bit more than him.

Weird theory, but it's all possible! LSU WR's are dominating the league.
 
I can’t believe I tried to trade him earlier this season. I bet the other guy is kicking himself. You would have a hard time prying him from my cold dead hands now.

I have JJ and love him. Took him over Chase this year. However I’m not not sure who is the better player. On the other hand Nabers is the better player from what I’ve seen so far.
 
don’t think it’s serious, but his status for this week could be up in the air…kid can be a league winner down the stretch

I don't think Kirk OUT is a positive for any rookie WR that will now draw double coverage
I hate injuries being a reason for certain players to elevate but the targets certainly slant towards BTJ for ROS
He already was getting the most targets of any WR on the team

I would assume Thomas is going to have a huge 2nd Half of the season

Interesting, QT’d by Michael Dirocco who appears to be an ESPN jags reporter

Just spoke with #Jaguars WR Brian Thomas in locker room. He said MRI showed "nothing. Everything was good." Obviously sore but is hopeful he can get back on the practice field by end of the week. HC Doug Pederson will speak at 1:45 p.m. ET.
