WR Chris Olave, NO (1 Viewer)

Chris Olave caught 4-of-5 targets for 42 yards in the Saints' Week 17 win over the Eagles.

Olave was playing through a questionable tag after a hamstring injury limited him in practice this week. The Saints got out to an early lead and only attempted 22 passes, leading to a floor week for Olave, who has at least 40 yards in every game this season. Olave will take a 67/982/3 line into Week 18.

He had 3/31 on the first drive and then crickets. Was that because the saints went Taysom heavy?

Spent more time than I should deciding to start him due to the hamstring...decide to go with him and he gets on the stat sheet early so it looks like a big day and feeling good about the decision...then he goes MIA (same scenario with Cole Kmet)...Dalton only threw it 22 times so gotta believe the Eagles lack of offense yesterday allowed NO to play conservatively.

I'd be embarrassed to tell you how much time I spent deciding between Olave and Dortch the past 2 days. 5 vs 8, whoopee 😂

Yup...and the fact I felt like a 10-year-old on Christmas when he put up that 3/31 right out of the gate is nothing to be proud of either.

“Chris Olave really looks comfortable and confident out there. Him, Rashid Shaheed, and Juwan Johnson might have been the best players from these three weeks of OTAs.”

To what extent are Olave's projections based on the assumption that Michael Thomas is the presumed WR1? I have a personal opinion that Thomas's days as a WR1 are over, and 2023 will be another 50 receptions year, followed by him not being a Saint. Ergo, big Olave upside. Thoughts?

Yeah MT is likely cooked, but also I get a Swift on the Lions feel here as well. I think the player/team relationship is no good and if MT ever resurges it won't be with the Saints. Olave is a guy I am absolutely targeting in the 3rd. Olave is certified elite and gets much better QB play this year.

My assumption is that MT doesn’t catch more than 25-30 balls this year.

I would hope none. Thomas has a lot to prove if he's still even a viable WR, let alone a #1.

I'm looking at Olave as a low-end WR1, and Thomas as a decent WR5 flier.

Looking at prime liftoff here, boys. Anytime a rookie gets 70 catches on over 13 YPR...needs to be highlighted on everyone's board.
I agree, and by that same logic, why are people sleeping on Jahan Dotson's 14.9 YPR and 7 TDs? He literally played half the season healthy and put up outstanding numbers with crappy QB play...
In a start 3WR format, entirely possible to get Garrett, Olave and Dotson. I might wet myself if I pulled it off.

Very easy to pull off in auction

Despite Carr, I decided to draft him 2nd in my PPR best ball league over Smith or Higgins. :scared:
Drafting the #1 WR in New Orleans who has limited competition and a solid, proven (not elite) QB over two clear #2 WRs on their respective teams doesn't seem like a stretch.

IMO Cousins and Carr are essentially clones and none of us would avoid Justin Jefferson, even though they added a potentially excellent rookie WR, so why not take a chance on Olave?

Right. I have Olave over Waddle right now. I like the easy NO schedule too.

Nothing wrong with that. He’s a real good player and Carr has had no problem supporting some excellent fantasy WRs.

Personally I’m expecting much more from DeVonte in redraft but that’s just a player take. Nothing wrong with your logic and there’s an easy case for Olave.

MT didn't look bad at all today. I honestly don't expect him to last the season - but if he did, what does it do to Olave's numbers? Good (less coverage) or bad (less targets)?

I guess if MT does play the entire season (which few of us expect) its probably going to cut into his total catches but he's got to be the long ball/home run threat at this point. I doubt Thomas has that in his game, betting he's more a posession/3rd down guy at best now.

weren't you the guy with the Kandre Miller post, you really like to second guess yourself, (and the guy behind the couch emoji), huh? season hasn't even started yet...

Some players I'm all in and sure about, but yeah, sometimes I really get on the fence and am torn. I do second guess myself but also usually win at least a league or two every season :)

I have a very inexact science applied that is basically to try not to have a lot of high conviction takes but, when I do, act aggressively on them. That method fosters a lot of second guessing which I view as good process. High confidence take should stand up to strong cross examination.

The New Orleans Saints wide receiver was wildly impressive as a rookie in 2022, routinely dusting the league’s best cornerbacks off the line of scrimmage and making things look easy in an offense that often wasn’t easy to watch. He’s got a ton of momentum behind him going into 2023, especially after the Saints invested a lot of money in free agent quarterback Derek Carr.

Chris Olave posted 112 receiving yards on eight catches in a Week 1 win over the Titans.

The Saints moved Olave all over the field on Sunday, lining him up out wide, in the slot, and even in the backfield. They are making it a priority to get him the ball, and it worked against the Titans with Derek Carr targeting him 10 times. Olave was also the target on a 50-yard bomb from Carr in the fourth quarter that could have easily been called a pass interference, so it’s pretty clear that the second-year receiver is going to be a major part of this Saints offense with the chance for huge games every week.
