Foot problem, they said. And yes, it seemed to obviously affect him those weeks. One wonders what will happen in the upcoming weeks.

The thing about the new injury, though, if you're holding him, is that he really seemed to pull up in the end zone in KC weirdly after a teammate seemed to step on it. I couldn't tell from the camera angle, but he really pulled up and I went, "####."

 
To the Denver homers, what do you think happens to DT now? Best guess does he get franchised? This is probably DTs last chance at a big contract. Can't expect him to be psyched about the franchise tag. What are you expecting?

 
Curious about this myself. Lot's of changes in Denver right now, Peyton is clearly near the end of the line even if they both stay- wonder where DT's value settles out to be this off season?

Teams can begin applying tags on February 16. The Denver Post confirms retaining free agent Demaryius Thomas is "by far" the Broncos' "top in-house priority," and the franchise tag will be in play if the sides can't strike a long-term agreement shortly. Extension talks between the Broncos and Demaryius broke off last July. Regardless, he won't be hitting free agency.

With Tuesday's deadline for the franchise tag approaching, the Broncos and free agent Demaryius Thomas are no closer to signing a long-term deal.

Thomas fully expects to receive the franchise tag, which would pay him around $13 million. There's no way Demaryius is leaving Denver after the season he had in 2014 (111 catches, franchise record 1,619 yards). However, his large cap hit could force Peyton Manning to restructure his deal.

Both Dez Bryant and Demaryius can expect tags on Monday. Beat writer Mike Klis guesses Thomas won't sign the one-year franchise tender until after the Broncos' offseason program is completed, allowing him to skip the activities without penalty. The wide receiver tag is expected to be worth $12.797 million. The Broncos offered Demaryius a deal worth $13 million annually last summer, but Thomas was "seeking something north of $15 million per." He proceeded to set the Broncos' franchise record for receiving yards (1,619).

This assumes no long-term agreement is reached before then, of course. Refusing to sign the tender and staying away from offseason workouts are pretty much the only ways franchise-tagged players can create leverage. The Denver Post's Mike Klis tweeted Monday that he'd "guess" the sides ultimately reach a deal paying Demaryius $14 million annually with $30 million guaranteed.

Broncos franchise player Demaryius Thomas says he won't make waves if he doesn't get a long-term extension.

He does plan to skip Denver's offseason conditioning program, instead working out on his own. "I’m still going to put my best game up, not going to do anything to hurt the team," Thomas said. "As a player you want to get a deal, but if it doesn’t happen you just got to deal with it. You just go out and play." The sides have until July 15 to hammer out a long-term agreement.

Reporter Mike Klis would be "surprised" if the sides reached a deal absent a Bryant extension to guide talks. Thomas isn't expected to sign his $12.823 million tender until the July 15 deadline, meaning he'll likely skip the Broncos' entire offseason program. At this point, he appears most likely to play out 2015 under his one-year tender.

It's mandatory for players under contract, but not for Thomas, who has yet to sign his $12.823 million franchise tender. Thomas is highly likely to eventually report to the Broncos, but it may not happen until training camp.

If there is no deal in place by the deadline, Rapoport adds, don't expect Thomas to report to training camp.

That chain of events would only serve to further aggravate Manning, who relies on offseason and summer repetitions to build impeccable timing with his receivers. Considering the challenges of adjusting to Gary Kubiak's new offense, it's even more imperative that Manning hones his connection with his No. 1 receiver.

If this thing gets past the deadline, drop DT a few rungs down the ranking ladder. Nothing good ever comes from missing training camp.

probably just lower his demands. successful teams don't generally budget that much money toward a #1 WR. it's not a position you build around in real life. nfl being no ppr and all that.

Thomas and Dez Bryant are in the same boat. If an extension isn't done by Wednesday's NFL-imposed deadline, they'll be forced to play out 2015 on a one-year, $12.82 million franchise tender. Unlike Dez, however, Thomas has not threatened any kind of holdout. Demaryius would break the bank in 2016 free agency if he gets to market, likely landing a Calvin Johnson kind of deal (eight years, $150 million with $60 million guaranteed).

Mike Klis of 9News.com in Denver reports the Broncos have recently offered unsigned franchise player Demaryius Thomas a long-term contract that would make him the league's second-highest paid receiver.

Per Klis, the two sides have exchanged contract offers with less than 48 hours until Wednesday's deadline. Thomas is said to be seeking Calvin Johnson money and beyond at $16 million-plus annually with around $50 million guaranteed. The Broncos' offer would put Thomas ahead of Mike Wallace's $12 million per-year rate and behind Megatron. Thomas may have to decide if he wants the security or play hardball for the money he feels he deserves and take another shot at it next offseason after playing on the tag.

It contradicts a report that the sides had "recently exchanged" proposals. Thomas' odds of getting a long-term deal appear better than Dez Bryant's, but still aren't good. Thomas is reportedly seeking "Calvin Johnson money," something a team that's all in on 2015 is probably unlikely to give. The sides have until Wednesday to reach an agreement.

Rapsheet reports the Broncos are offering Thomas "well over" $12 million per year, but aren't willing to give him "Megatron" money. Calvin Johnson's eight-year deal has an average-annual value of $18.8 million. As is the case with Dez Bryant, Thomas doesn't have a whole lot to gain by missing training camp, let alone games, as Wednesday is the hard-and-fast deadline for working out a long-term accord. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier Wednesday that the sides hadn't talked in "over a month."

I don't understand teams manufacturing drama where it isn't needed on players like these and Wilson and others. It's not like the players are going to say they don't want the money and its not like they won't command that money if they go somewhere else.

 
Less perceived risk with DT and more production (though obviously the situation affects this). Also, DT seems a more consistent player than Dez, who has tended to disappear for stretches of games. You could argue it either way, but I personally would think it perfectly fair for DT to make more than Dez.

 
So denver was incapable of negotiating a contract with Thomas a month ago so the just threw up their hands and decided on "Whatever Dez gets!"???? I guess that's as good a reason not to have your best player learning the new offense as any. Shrewd.
