WR George Pickens, DAL (1 Viewer)

Jon Machota
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott on @dfwticket on WR George Pickens: "We've connected. I'm excited. You turn on the tape, you see a guy that can catch the football. You put the football anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands. More than a 50/50 catcher. He thinks it's his ball when it's in the air. I'm excited for him. I know we needed some help at that position. ... It's hard to double team two guys. ... I think we're putting together a nice group of weapons."
ChatGPT translated Dak's comments as - "The dude is a freaking headcase and is going to implode before we insult him with a 2nd contract offer. But I have been paid so I don't really care"

Mike Clay's projections seem to be reasonable...900ish/7 TDs

I think he'll be overdrafted in casual leagues...he's a big name in Big D...makes him a sexy pick.

I like finding outlier/flag plants/bold predictions. Derek Brown at Fantasy Pros has him as (redraft) WR15 (+14 over ECR) and 35 overall. Some interesting notes in the write-up.

It is not clear if half PPR or exact scoring system.

Cowboys WR George Pickens on @1053thefan on being excited about getting the ball with an opportunity to run after the catch: “A lot more dig (routes). That’s what I feel like … a lot of other teams, they don’t want to implement it because you got a running back, you got this. But the Cowboys run a lot of digs, and it’s all off Dak. It’s what he likes. Definitely, on the move, let alone the deep ball.”

Hayden Winks
George Pickens has never had YAC opportunities based on the routes he ran and the QBs he played with. I don’t think there’s anything about his game that would prevent him from being solid after the catch. Good news that digs are on the menu.

My biggest fear is that the knuckleheadedness rubs off on Lamb.

The quote about their handshake & how they’ll definitely get fined for the gun-gesture bodes ill.

Fingers crossed.

you view them having a handshake together as a bad sign? Come on now. They are new teammates.

Training camp handshakes are for the fans and the internet. I don't see how Lamb can be the player he is and be negatively impacted by Pickens joining this team.

I think Pickens breaks the Pittsburgh WR transfer curse. He is such a complement to Lamb's game. If they find a RB on this team, they could be pretty nice. I don't think playoff wins are in the future but definitely could bode well for fantasy.

He’s actually on my list of targets for a draft I have coming up. I dunno if DAL will try to keep him beyond this year though.

Well, Jerry likes to wait until the 11th hour on his contract extensions and I think we can safely say... Jerry doesn't know if Dallas will retain Pickens beyond this year.

They did invest a decent amount in Pickens and I think he's worth of a 6th round pick in redraft. Looking at Gallup and Cooper early in Dak's career, both had 1000 yards. I think we can agree Lamb and GP are a more talented duo and they don't have Zeke back there toting the rock 300 times this season (nor anyone on the roster exemplifying the capability to do that).

He’s going in the 7-8 rounds in startup dynasty - that’s the value I have to estimate.
What other WR are you seeing go in that range?
I have a Lamb-Puka-Pickens wr corp with a cliff drop after that, and would like to diversify away from multiple Dal WR so obviously I need to see what Georgie boy could fetch in a 1 for 1 type of move.

It’s a decent tier. TMc, Golden, (I took Chuba but I loaded up WR early), Pearsall, Reed.

I would have grabbed Pickens but he went 2 before me, so I took Chuba, and then Golden went at the turn so I grabbed Reed. Those two are a coin flip for me. I’m not interested in TMc at start-up ADP, but he’s probably a fine pick for a 3-year window.

Interesting. For the purpose of just this season I'd rather Pickens than the rest of those WR. Terry is an interesting one but there's uncertainty now with the trade req. I'm in a win now window for sure.

I would have taken Chuba there if I were you too

What about Odunze and Egbuka - they along with Pickens and Golden are fascinating for this season. Are they all in the same range?
For 2025 I might go Pickens, Egbuka, Odunze, Golden -- but I want to put Golden ahead of Odunze.

You can set some date ranges to see who’s going where. This is as good a resource as I have for ADP.

It was shared with me so paying it forward :)

Am I overvaluing Pickens in non-ppr dynasty? Guy keeps trying to give me rookie pick 2.05 for him. I also own Lamb so I'd like to move him, but not for free.

Same guy also told me his trade value is less b/c I have Lamb LMAO WTF?!

Orphan team I took over that needs RB help badly

Rookie pick 2.05 isn't enough in my humble opinion. I stopped worrying about having two wrs from the same team years ago. It's math.

Trade value might be felt to be lower if the other owner thinks you have no choice but to trade him. That would drive the price down, like a desperate house seller. Some owners don't mind keeping two WRs from the same team, others assume one must be dealt.

I gave up Egbuka essentially but the crowd did not support that one.

They thought you overpaid? Or fleeced the other owner?

I'd rather not keep 2 from the same team, but that doesn't make me want to fire sale any players. I still want fair value or I will start them both. This guy must think I am desperate to move him since I am shopping him. Joke is on him

I can see both sides of that deal. Fair trade IMO. Pickens has proven he can do it in the NFL. The rookie hasn't even played yet

Close to a fair trade, yes. Pickens has also shown his downside in immaturity and selfishness. Egbuka, I believe, is a solid character prospect.

I have Pickens as close to a 1st.

His past is irrelevant. He’s landed in a perfect situation, and his age/ability > perception about maturity.

Clean slate, lots of good press lately, videos of him gelling in this offense.

Think Amari Cooper in DAL, or Branden Cooks as the WR2

IMO a 2nd is a lowball offer. Needs to add a player or a pick.

I just sold Pickens for McBride in that league

Wow

Anyone concerned with Pickens tonight?

Bad matchup. PHI secondary top notch.

May need some more time to sync with Dak?

Not a big fan of sitting a 5th round draft pick, but do have some other options.

Pittsburgh homer here. I have the same question.

IMO he’s a bit boom/bust.

If he catches a deep pass early, look out. If he’s not getting his targets he checks out, gets lazy, etc. and takes himself mentally out of the game.

Yes to all those concerns. Sitting him for Diggs, I think
Have him in two different leagues and thinking of sitting him for either Mooney, Jennings (whichever is healthiest), or J. Mason in one league and or QB R. Wilson in a superflex league.

If he goes off on my bench at least that's a good sign of things to come.

Guy coming off an ACL who might be on a snap count? Not sure about that.

Look, it's week one and GP's on a new teams so it's unknown and nothing is guaranteed but I'm expecting a good to big game. This is not the Steeler's who are going to let him head into halftime stewing because he had 1 or less targets. I think they'll manage him better and that will include getting him involved early and if forecasting a game that Dallas would need to pass this seems like a good one.

Only place I'm not starting him is for MHJ and that was a tough call I'm still not sure about. But between Diggs and players mentioned in the post above this I would not be struggling with deciding.

How about in a superflex league where I can start any of these QBs: R. Wilson, G. Smith, J. Flacco, Stafford, Penix, or Darnold?
