WR Jerry Jeudy, CLE (2 Viewers)

IMO trading Jeudy will say a lot about Sean Payton's commitment to Russell Wilson.

Jeudy is/will be far more effective in a system with a traditional pocket passer, or even one that is simply better about going through his progressions.

Wilson has a poor pocket presence and is often barely off his first read when he'll bail on a play and turn it into a fire drill.

That's great for guys like Mims who can break long or short dumpoffs to RB's, but Jeudy's strengths are more route running and creating separation and then boom expecting the ball to be delivered. Not running a great route and then constantly looking back to see Russ has his head down running around somewhere.

I can understand why he might be frustrated.

So far the trade candidates I've heard are all worse than Denver. Patriots, Colts, Panthers. Ouch.
The Colts are worse? They actually have a chance at that division. Not to mention they’re much better than the Broncos.
Worse fantasy situation, I think was the intention there. Granted, Denver is a pretty bad situation. But, assuming Taylor is getting eased back to his old role, it doesn't really get notably worse than Indy.

I don’t see a Taylor as a bad thing for Jeudy. Strange comment.

Anyone concerned that because he's on the trade block...and they want to get something for him...his snaps are limited tonight?

My bad, totally forgot which thread I was in 🤣

I just spent 40 mins convincing myself to bench him for A.Lazard ... because I was convinced he was going to have a good game. That doesn't seem to be the popular consensus, however, and I have now reconsidered in that it is too risky.

Edit : i also just subbed out A.Lazard for J.Reynolds. Still a toss up, however. As long as Jeudy doesn't ball out and drop 30 pts...now wouldn't that be something...

I wouldn't think so. There are still almost three weeks until the trade deadline. Most trade offers will only sweeten closer to the deadline assuming there are multiple suitors.

The reporting I have seen is that much of this "Denver fire sale" is pure speculation by other teams should the Broncos fall to 1-5 tonight. I'm not sure the Broncos are putting this stuff out there. Sources seem to be of the "several NFL GMs have speculated that... " variety.

There’s been a lot of speculation the last two weeks about Jeudy getting traded. It’s been specifically to the Panthers, and then all the Twitter stuff happened. The FAN 104.3 just made a statement that their news on the forefront about Jeudy. We are about to find out. If the Panthers are wanting a WR1, not sure why they would trade for this guy. Immaturity levels are off the charts.

If Tepper likes him, they'll attempt the trade.

Craters his value even more if he ends up on carolina...practically droppable
I can't say I agree, they are scheming Thielen into a fantasy superstart.

Last year Jeudy went on a major 5-game tear after a big emotional meltdown and bumping an official (Chiefs v. Broncos game BTW)

Who knows, maybe a little disrespect will get his juices flowing and up his game a notch

One thing he doesn’t have is contract motivation given that his 5th year option was picked up in the offseason. More wasted money by the franchise.

Steve Smith always was a tough petty bulldog of a player. I guess that's never going away. I don't know the full history between Smith and Jeudy but my lord is the pressure on JJ to produce tonight. He got clowned hard. The part that hurts is that it's true. Every word of it.

JJ is marginal at best. He's had a laundry list of issues since arriving in Denver. There have been questions about his work ethic, multiple ailments, and legal issues. Denver needs a hard reset starting with guys like JJ.

Jeudy has been a disappointment, but Smith came off badly there. He made it personal, and that is something someone in the media shouldn't do. And I loved watching Smith as a player, but this is a bad look for him.
I missed it, what did Smith say?

“He’s mentally unable to handle constructive criticism,”

Agreed.

Imagine if Monday Night, Peyton and Eli just sat there calling Jordan Love a bum who can't read defenses or throw accurate passes. Now imagine instead of doing it from whatever studio or basement or wherever they are, they were 30 yards away from Love.

I think Jeudy is very much a salvageable player. Is that in Denver? Less likely in my opinion, but he's someone I'd want to trade for if I were an NFL team, this isn't Chase Claypool 2.0, this is more maybe Hollywood Brown.

ETA: Ironically the team that could probably use him the most was their opponent tonight.

Smitty doesn't hold back on his podcast no matter who the receiver is and it is refreshing to get his perspective on the technical stuff that the usual EPSN and fantasy suits don't have.

The fact that Jeudy called him a Ninja (N word with an A) on the field when he went to apologize to him does demonstrate a lack of mental discipline. I can't really fault him for it though given the disaster of a situation he has been in the last 2 years, I am sure he is in a bad head space. For his sake I hope he does get traded and finds a more productive team/organization. He hasn't lived up to his potential yet but still has plenty of time to turn things around.

What is his trade value? A 4th rounder? I’m sure Denver just wants to get rid of him and will probably just take best offer even if it is a 5th or 6th.

It feels like a lot of people have never watched Inside the NBA and seen Barkley and Shaq completely demolish players. And it's pretty much become the most popular show in all of sports. NFL Network knew exactly who Steve Smith was when they hired him and what they'd be getting. Like it or not, sports are an entertainment business and this stuff is what a lot of people find entertaining. And regardless of all of that, the amount of clicks it's generating is astronomical. The game last night was an afterthought compared to the Smith Jeudy thing. The fact Jeudy found them recording a segment later on the sidelines so he could dance behind them.... and then proceeded to go 3/5 for 14 yards.... yikes...

I get people thinking his potential is worth trading for to some teams. But I'd be supremely shocked if any team think's the $13 million he's due next season for his 5th year option is worth trading for. Pretty sure that would land him in the top 15 among WR salaries next year. Buzz, your girlfriend. Woof.

Steve Smith is a thug. I remember him punching a teammate in the eye during a practice back in 2008. I always thought he suffered from the "small man syndrome".

What happened tonight? Couldn’t watch
Steve Smith erupted pregame how bad Jeudy is
Jeudy was like 3/15 last night but the entire Denver offense was absent most of the game, few good runs by Javonte here and there, Mclaughlin looked alright in limited touches.
The passing game is abysmal right now.
Wilson had about 50-60 yds going into the 4th, KC just kept the ball, kept making FDs, could have kicked 2-3 more FGs
Mahomes was pretty average last night

16-0 until about 7 minutes left and Denver cut it to 16-8 but it never felt like they were a threat
That's about it

If the price is a 5th or 6th, then literally every team in the NFL should be interested. Literally every team, no exceptions. No teams have 3 WRs more talented than Jeudy.

I'd be shocked if they couldn't get a 4 at the minimum.

Jeudy doesn't have the balls to get close to Smith. So, maybe he's a prima donna who is also a wuss.
Jeudy may be a JAG but Smith is a bit of a JAGoff... guys getting ready to play a game and you want to talk about some nonsense you caused trying to get some cheap heat.

He made his comments in public, make your correction/apology in public, why he thought that was the time or place is misguided.

I say this as a huge Steve Smith fan, of him as a player and his work on Underdog doing WR deep dives, its informative solid work. And Jeudy certainly could have and should have handled it better too.

I think issue is he has a pretty high salary next year because his option was picked up and then is a free agent. And character concerns don’t help. Neither does injury history.

Rodney Harrison calling Zach Wilson trash on a broadcast, and trying to bait Chris Jones into agreeing with him.

Donte Whitner calling Dak trash on a broadcast.

Steve Smith calling Jeudy a JAG and bashing him for several minutes on a broadcast.

Apparently we just let these guys say anything they want into a microphone, huh? Bad look for all of them, and I've lost respect for all of them because of it.

I got no problems with Jerry's response to Steve Smith and put me in the camp that thinks the only one who came out looking bad was Smith. I'm just disappointed at so many people who now say this is some kind of confirmation that Juedy is soft or has character issues. Maybe those things are true but this should not be the basis for forming those opinions.

Really good Broncos beat writer, Benjamin Allbright, was saying in the off-season that the general price tag Denver was looking for was a second for Jeudy. Can't say that means for sure they would not take a second they projected as late but good chance no one was giving that. I think he's going to go for something that looks like a mid third on the trade chart. LIke Elijah Moore but a little less.

Also he said they were only looking for something like a 5th for Sutton. Age and contract issues making him less desirable. Reports were a trade was close, I think the Ravens if I'm remembering correctly, but Denver backed out.

Yeah, agree not a good look for Smith. He had a valid point there with JJ having the potential to be elite, but hid it inside some petty BS. Announcers need to maintain some level of professionalism and Smith didn't demonstrate any with that diatribe.
Smith is an *ss...

...but I think he's right.

Hoping my Pats don't bother with him. Totally unimpressive last night.

This was so unusual last night that it caught me off guard. Seeing Steve Smith clearly rip him was very odd. After thinking about it, whether his analysis is right or wrong doesn't matter imo.

If NFL sideline reporters are going to interact in this way with players involved in the game it's going to start feeling like professional wrestling, which would be horrible. There is a time and place for critical analysis, and this really isn't it.
