WR Xavier Worthy, KC (3 Viewers)

Hollywood or Royals against Giants this week? Is Royals really that good he can step in and immediately make an impact?
Hollywood on the outs and sideline throws .. Thornton on the deep flys .. Kelce and Royals on everything underneath and over the middle. Royals will play the Rashee role .. How much remains to be seen.

A blurb that I just saw on Worthy. I’m not sure what to make of it. While its positive that he’s practicing and wants to play, the fact that Reid, (seems like maybe the doctors, and eventually Worthy himself said that he wasn’t “right”. That seems ominous to me- but I admit that I could be interpreting things too deeply.

Reid said this decision came down to Worthy simply not being right in those three practice sessions.

“Yeah, so he was real positive coming in, and he was mentally saying, ‘I’m going to play in the game,’ which you’ve got to kind of take that approach with that type of an injury,” Reid said of Worthy. “And he did, I mean, he came out and he practiced and did the best he could, but it just wasn’t right. And so between Xavier (Worthy) and the doctors and so on, we thought it was best if he didn’t play.”

It wasn’t about want-to or willpower, but whether Worthy could get the job done with his injury limitations.

Here is the article I copied and pasted from

from rotowire posted on cbs
Worthy (shoulder) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
Worthy thus appears likely to return for Sunday's game against the Ravens. He was listed as a limited practice participant all of last week, getting a 'questionable' designation on the Friday injury report before downgrading to 'out' on Saturday.

There's been a lot of discussion about how he'll be able to catch but less around how he'll be able to handle any sort of physicality. When he comes back he's finishing plays like a QB, right? Sliding and getting out of bounds. Will he strictly be used off the LOS? Why wouldn't a CB press him if on the line? Of course the shoulder doesn't take away from his quickness, but upper body does come into play when beating press coverage.

As a Worthy owner--I am grateful that it's looking like he might be coming back, but I'm still very skeptical. The reason why most of us drafted him in redraft is because he had the opportunity to take over the receiving duties the first six weeks while Rashee is suspended. If he beasted the first 5-6 games of the season, it's not like Mahomes would just forget about him when Rashee returned. There is already talk about him coming back on a limited snap count this week (if he does come back) and wearing a harness. As you mentioned--even if he's careful--it's not like defenders are going to avoid taking shots at him when given the opportunity. The point that I'm basically making is that in redraft--we drafted worthy based on the notion that the Chiefs were going to build a lot of their offensive scheme around him. Now that he's undeniably very fragile and at a high risk for re-injury--do we think the chiefs are going to make him a "pillar" of their offense--or instead--a feature of their offense? In the short term--I tend to be in the camp that they will probably use him as a decoy with benefits. They might throw him a few bunnies to see how he looks and reacts. I'm hoping for the best--but I dont think I can start him this week. This might be one of the rare cases where if he goes off and looks great on my bench--I'd be completely happy with that outcome.

I’m leaving him on the bench this week. I think he’s going to be on a pitch count, and knowing that injury intimately, I know the confidence won’t be there if he gets hit or lands on the shoulder. It’s gonna hurt like hell, and he’s probably going to play with trepidation.

There’s absolutely reason for concern.

That said, he’s also the sort of player who could go full Jamo and get you 150/2 on 3 receptions. KC has needed to take the top off the offense all year and Worthy can do that without much contact.

But imma give it a week to see how this plays out. Let him build a little confidence.

As I understand the labrum is a complete tear, which means he can’t hurt his labrum any more. Probably why they’re willing to give it a go.

Have both Worthy and Godwin coming back this week. Will likely sit them both this week for the surprising resurgence of Pittman for my WR3 spot but hopefully its shaping up for me to have some very tough choices soon.

I’m starting worthy everywhere this week. Tet dealing with an injury in my home league, and Browns are tough enough that imma leave Jamo on the bench for Worthy. I have ARSB going, so that will probably backfire, but I don’t really want to stack against that CLE defense in what could be a low-ish output game for the Brownss offense.

Couple other leagues I just don’t have better options. Hoping for a long TD or 2. Chiefs need it, and Ravens are pretty bad against the pass this year.

LFG!

Surprised how good he looks tbh. Hopefully he can avoid big hits and awkward landings.
I’ve been tryina tell people. It comes down to pain tolerance. His tear is complete - he can’t tear the labrum any more. The harness keeps it from dislocating again.

NFL players aren’t human. We should know this by now.

If anyone that planned on starting Worthy has a WR in tonight’s game on the bench, I’d consider pivoting unless you have Hollywood or Thornton in case.

Gotta be f’n kidding me. I’ve got Addison with 15 on my bench, JCM with 29.6, and Mason with 12.9

And Worthy reported hurt *after* all the games have been played?

I’m in a close matchup. I have 2 YTP, and Worthy is one of them.

Cmon man.
:wall:

Ankle just swelled up taking a flight from KC to JAX. This is what’s being reported by the NFL Network. I mean this one tops em all. I guess the altitude created the problem
Been watching football for decades. I’ve never heard of this.

Hopefully it calms down tomorrow - if that’s truly what happened, this sounds like a nothing burger.

I agree and hope its nothing. His presence last week truly helped KC look like a much better team

Ok, the update is a little less ominous:
ankle swelled up on the Chiefs' flight to Jacksonville on Sunday, and Kansas City added him to the injury report as questionable as a precaution,

The bolded makes me feel a bit better about this.
What is the precaution?
If a player is hurt and it goes unreported the NFL can issue fines, IIRC.

So the precaution is “CYA” for the team in case he can’t go.

Fingers crossed he’s ok tonight.

Active.
:pickle:

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (shoulder/ankle) is active for Week 5 against the Jaguars.
Worthy returned to the lineup in Week 4 following two missed games with a separated shoulder but experienced swelling in his ankle on the flight to Jacksonville, ultimately prompting the questionable tag. He is active and will play against the Jaguars, giving the Chiefs their primary option through the air. Inactive for the Chiefs are CB Kristian Fulton, TE Jared Wiley, RB Elijah Mitchell, DT Omarr Norman-Lott, OL Hunter Nourzad, and DE Malik Herring

I need a huge night to have a shot at a dub in my home league. Left so many points on my bench it sickens me.

Couple of those patented 50+ yard Tyreek specials would really come in handy.
