WR Zay Flowers, BAL (1 Viewer)

Bo Smolka
Kevon Seymour has had to defend Zay Flowers a lot in one-on-ones this summer. I asked him what it's like trying to defend Flowers. He let out a big sigh: "You gotta get him before he gets going. You try to get him and you miss, it's curtains. Now you're chasing him."

Seymour says Flowers is sure to draw a lot of penalties this year. He drew two tonight in just two series.

Anybody else considering him over JSN in dynasty and redraft?

Luckily I didn't have to choose at my 4 pick, though I was preparing for it... And I legitimately didn't know who I'd go with.
Gun to my head, I PROBABLY would've gone JSN, just because of his size.
Talent wise, they're on par for me.

I got Flowers at 1.07 (dynasty) and would trade him away in a heartbeat for Jaxson. I like his size better and his situation. Baltimore WRs have been a wasteland. Also my sense is that JSN is a more refined, polished route runner. I’m happy, though, that Flowers is flashing in preseason.

In a recent podcast Waldman implied that Flowers has a higher ceiling and that's what I saw in games and in the metrics as well...which got me thinking....

everybody agrees that JSN has the higher floor, but the ceiling debate is interesting to me.

Zay Flowers caught both targets for 37 yards and one touchdown in the Ravens’ preseason game against the Commanders.
Flowers got the start with Rashod Bateman and Odell Beckham getting the night off. He did not disappoint, catching both targets while taking a quick out the distance for a 26-yard score on the team’s opening possession. Flowers appears to have cemented his status as a starting wide receiver for a Ravens offense that is likely to look vastly different under new offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

I think he looks talented but there are a lot of mouths to feed and he’s likely a situation that will take a while to hit IF he hits. I tend to rotate the last guy out frequently for other good looking pickups (dropped Cooper last year after his stinker in week 1 last year…ooops). i think flowers would have to hit immediately for him to have any value on one of my teams which I don’t expect to happen.

Certainly someone I will keep an eye on

Our long serving league of very wise men (most of the time), last night's draft:

Bateman - Rnd 9
Flowers - Rnd 9

In what leagues is Bateman going 5-6rnds later, that can't be right....?

Anyways, Flowers is superior on the field and will be in fantasy as well.
Agreed. The only way Flowers is going 5-6 rounds higher is if Momma Flowers is in your draft!

I stand corrected....From the 6 IBL drafts

Flowers 9, 10, 9, 9, 9, 9
Bateman 11, 11, 11, 12, 11, 10

From ADP 101 Flowers, 125 Bateman

Seemed like five to six rounds because Flowers was going in the last starter position and Bateman in a bench position.

or me.... but alas, i tried to be slick and didnt get him at all (thankfully have him in dynasty)...

Auction, competitive main league, deep rosters start 3 WR. Bateman went for 30% more than Flowers. Neither were all that expensive. OBJ ended up being the highest priced Baltimore WR in our draft, but not by a lot. Any of the three could be huge bargains, while all three could be almost useless due to inconsistency. Really excited to see their "new" offense.

Let's see do I want the guy made out of glass or the exciting rookie. Hmmm tough one fellas.

While this may prove the best course over 17, I have a tingly suspicion glass man is going to come out of the gates as the clear WR1 in this offense.
I doubt that since he missed so much time during the installation of the new offense. I think he's clearly behind Flowers and OBJ. I'd love to be wrong since I have Bateman in a league where I'm super thin at WR.

In my home league, which has been running for 26 years, Flowers went 9.3.

Bateman went undrafted! (15 rounds, 6 bench spots, so fairly shallow - but still).

When I said glass man, I was referring to OBJ.

I think that applies to Bateman also.

12 team, SF PPR:
I took Zay at 11.1 - Honestly I did it because he looks like a fun player to root for and I want those guys on my team. Same reason I took Dotson & Howell early.

OBJ went 12.5 - I wouldn't have drafted him at all.

Bateman was undrafted - this feels like an oversight and I have him as our league's best available free agent.

How do we think Flowers will be utilized week 1?

Gets off to a fast start because he is always open and explosive? Or do we think he goes the more of a traditional rookie year and gets off to a slower start?

vs Houston? probably a slow start. dobbins could have a career night against that run defense.
starting flowers if Jeudy can't go in my work league, so hopefully i'm wrong :)

Maybe a little more if Odell Beckham is limited with his ankle
