xbox one vs ps4 (2 Viewers)

Looks like thief is a having issues on the PS/4 based off Ars review.

On the visual side, the PlayStation 4 version I tested was surprisingly stuttery, with noticeable slowdown and frame rate drops during many sections. Load times were long enough to be annoying as well; every death or new section of town meant a wait of 10 to 15 seconds.
Imagine how slow it would run on the XB1
That's why they made it 900p...
Yet reviews are still stating the lag pretty bad on it despite the lower resolution.
Link to reviews? All reviews I have seen have been done on the PS/4.

PS4 Crappy Wifi. This is the same experience I have with my PS3, which is just one more reason I wasn't eager to go Sony early on this round. I've been through several routers over the years and it still sucks. Though any other device in the same spot gets wicked fast wifi. Maybe they'll include a decent adaptor in thier subsequent builds in 2015 and on.

I was never able to reliably game on the Xbox 360 using wifi either. Are you able to? (I'd really like to relocate my system away from the modem)
I had 360, PS/3, Smart TV, and Tivo all in same entertainment console. The only one that gave me any issues is the PS/3. Gaming, Streaming, etc. I eventually went to wired for all the device because I need to drag a cable for the PS/3 anyway.

Every device in my house does great over Wifi, but the PS3. This includes 5 ipads, some phones, some ipods, Windows PC, WiiU, Xbox One, Xbox 360. From many areas within the house. It's been an issue since the PS3 launch. It never got fixed, and is just a crappy wifi adaptor.
The Wi FI on the PS3 was notoriously crappy. I use PS4 wireless with a 20mb connection wired and it will maintain a 13-14 speed wireless.

Hmm. I guess I don't need to play with the wires before moving my stuff around then. Time to get some revenge on my noisy neighbor.

New study shows gamers prefer PS4

The interesting point is PS3 only guys are going PS4, 360 only guys are going Xbone but the majority of people who had both systems are going PS4.

Titan fall is an online only game? Pass
I actually wish more shooters would skip the SP part and just focus on the MP. I've got 90 hours in BF4 multiplayer and haven't even touched the campaign.
the campaign is mediocre at best. The characters are really bad cliches.
Not to mention at one point the SP game saves were getting corrupted/wiped. I hear that may still be an issue. Oof. I play the hell out of the multiplayer though but won't put another dime into the game (maps or otherwise) until Dice fixes this ****.

You wanna know what the silver lining is? The campaign is so short that even if you save corrupts half way though it will only take a couple of hours to get back to where you were.

It happened to me AFTER I had completed it, luckily it sucked so I have no desire to go play it again.

This really isn't that surprising to see gamers that have multiple systems initially gravitating towards the cheaper console. IF MS can start churning out quality exclusives and still have the strong multiplayer games, then they will eventually lure the dual console guys back.

I think that was the most useless information in the article. I had both the 360 and PS/3. While I initially chose the Xbox as my first next gen system I will eventually pick up a PS/4. I think this will be the case with most of the dual system people.

Yes, I don't care what other people are doing. Why should I buy a PS4 over a X1?

PS4 because it's cheaper and has better graphics. both of those points come with a big "for now" sticker.

Differences that likely won't change that may affect your decision -

1. kinect vs. Move

2. controller preference

3. exclusives

You should care, the console with the larger install base, ease of programming and higher ceiling is more likely to have the initial code written for it and the weaker/smaller base harder to program console then gets the crappy port.

This was especially true in the early days of PS3. the PS3 had a small install base due to the early launch of 360 and was difficult to program for. Most cross platform games were ported to PS3 and they are laggy, sloppy, jagged glitched messes.

Bottom line is if most of the other people buy the PS4 then the product quality of the xbone will suffer.

That is one reason why you should care about other peoples purchasing trends, amongst quite a few others.

The reasons for being in favor for either console are readily available and discussed quite a bit.

I'm a PS fanboy who bought both in December and I have been almost exclusively using X1. :bag:
What do you like the best about Xbone coming from PS3?
I'm going to put on my Swami Hat and say online play. Amiright?
My guess was voice controls, that seems to be the big one.
My guess is the games. It all comes down to games. Regardless if some games are lower resolution (though Xbox One upscales so you can hardly tell the difference).

Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, Halo, Sunset Overdrive, etc.

I always thought these were niche items for very hard core title gamers. Never saw them as top sellers.

There are many cases where the product quality could increase as well. Being behind spurns them doing things to win gamers back, like Sony did last gen first by vastly improving PSN as it went along, and then by giving away free games.

You got me I can't believe it. It may be how Gamestop tracks sales or something. But at face value it looks like the #1 item being sold is a PS4 bundle and the number #2 is the Titanfall disc. I would bet that if you added the Titanfall bundle with the disc it would easily pass the PS4 bundle.

I don't know if A: how the gamestop calculates sales, B: If it means people are still dying to get a PS4 or C: It is just dismal sales of Titanfall.

I personally think it is B that people are still lined up by the millions to get a PS4 as I have a hard time buying that Titanfall is tanking.

One factor that should be added in here is PS+. The PS4 hasn't had many exclusives yet, and the ones that exist are certainly not in the must-have category even for PS4 owners. I've found myself playing the PS+ freebies more than anything besides BF4. Resogun is good, Don't Starve and Outlast were both awesome, and I'm actually looking forward to Dead Nation next month even though I've played it already when I got it for free thanks to the PSN hack a few years back.

PS+ has been incredibly valuable on the PS3, to the point that a person could simply not buy any retail games and rely entirely on free titles for their gaming. It hasn't been as good on PS4 (understandably), but it's still taken care of the post-launch drought. Once some real titles start coming to this -- presumably starting with DriveClub -- this should be a selling point for the console. Obviously this could change in the future if Microsoft ups the ante, but right now PS+ just blows away Games With Gold or whatever the 360 analog is.

Not trying to GET you. I have no idea how the bundles sell compared to other items. Just don't seem to be hot sellers to me unless like you said they just want the console.

Titanfall is a great game and I was upset when they took my Beta away. The thing is I just don't see it being a big seller since it is on-line only. It's going to disappoint.

Ya, this doesn't say for how long the tracking period is. If Gamestop's figures go back a week or two, then obviously the Infamous bundle will outsell the Titanfall bundle which only became available this week.

I think you're very wrong about this. People buy these games for the multiplayer.
It will still sell well because it's a really fun game, but I have no doubt that the lack of single player will cause a disproportionate loss of sales to what it should. People are so obsessed with getting "value" and the best deal anymore that there will be plenty of people who wouldn't even have played single player if it did exist that will pass on the game because it doesn't have it. It's stupid, but we saw the same with Shadowrun last gen.

The ??? factor for me is how many people do not have live? People who do not pay for the online access would have zero interest in Titanfall.

Gotta be very few. Nobody owns a next gen console but won't pay $40/year for online.

I would think it is a small number but it is hard to tell, this article is from last year and it is 46M of the 75M 360 owners had live.

I saw a video a while back that stated that only about a third of 360 owners subscribed to XBL. (This was Pachter FWIW). That number blew my mind. I have philosophical problems with Microsoft or Sony charging you to use your own internet connection to play online games, but if I own the console and we're in the ~$50 territory for online play, it's a no-brainer to swallow my principles and pony up for the extra functionality. Apparently lots of other consumers don't see it that way. I agree with you in that I don't get that at all.

This is just a random observation in response to your post. I agree completely that Titanfall is going to move some XB1s. This isn't even the kind of game that I would normally play, but from watching gameplay videos I would probably spring for it if it was on PS4. This has serious mass market appeal.

PS4 crosses 6 million consoles sold.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2454496,00.asp

http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/177788-ps4-hits-6-million-consoles-sold-13-7-million-games-xbox-one-still-only-around-4-million

PS4 over 6 million and Xbone just under 4 million, Titanfall hits next week and then Infamous later this month.
It's just unbelievable how well these consoles are selling - especially the PS4. Both are absolutely blowing away last gen's numbers.

I think the flaw in your thinking is that you think people aren't paying out of principle. As a gamer, I have no interest in online play. I mean literally none. Never have. I wouldn't pay $5 a year to play online. So I would let go of the assumption that most of those not paying it are doing it out of some principle-based protest. They are just as likely not interested in it as it being about the money.

The other thing I was thinking about is children. The Xbox has a younger user base than Playstation and I can see where a parent would give a console to a kid and not buy the live membership and a kid would be totally fine playing Epic Mickey or something like that. Then the parent wouldnt want junior playing rough games online or 50 bucks is a lot of money to a 12 year old.

Anyway we are gonna see first hand what Titanfall can do. If it moves less than 500k consoles that is a fail. Japan PS4s 400k any less than that and xbone is gonna be in the hurt locker long term.

I think the 33% number was based on the total number of Xbox accounts (IE 66% of accounts that exist are silver). Obviously this number is supremely inaccurate because you can make as many silver accounts as you want (my console has 6 silver accounts on it from various people coming over and creating an account to play on) and expired gold accounts (people who sold off their console, etc) turn to silver.

I think the more accurate measure is gold accounts vs. consoles sold, of which there are 46m gold accounts out of 77m consoles sold. Still a big number without gold, but then again there are probably no shortage of consoles in younger gamer's homes or sitting in frat rooms for Madden.

That number is not so shocking, I know a lot of people who have the 360 who play the system occasionally and do not pay for Live. Some people just like playing a franchise mode on 2K or Madden or GTA 5 without going online.

PS4 crosses 6 million consoles sold.

PS4 over 6 million and Xbone just under 4 million, Titanfall hits next week and then Infamous later this month.
I bet Titanfall helps the bone close the gap some. I don't believe that Infamous has the same type of reach this next-Halo (if it is that) will have. I just hope both sell well enough to ensure that we have at least 2 strong competitors in the market. More would be better.

Now if the WiiU would pick it up a bit. Donkey Kong Country I hear is great, but there is a gap here in the spring before Super Smash and eventually Mario Kart come out.

Is the Infamous series really a system seller type? I played the original one after it was free and it was fun for a few hours but then got extremely repetitive. The storyline wasn't nearly good enough to keep me interested. And I never really heard that much hype over Infamous 2. So it's curious to me that it is being portrayed as a major system selling type title.
