xbox one vs ps4 (2 Viewers)

I'm planning on upgrading my 360 to either a 1 or a PS4. I'm a light gamer-mostly Madden, NHL, COD, and Battlefield. I also use my current 360 to stream Netflix, HBO Go, etc. Now that the price is same, anyone have any opinions on which way I should go?
PS4 for Strict Gaming and light apps like you describe.

XB1 for less powerful gaming but better online experience.

If HBO Go is on PS4, then there will probably not be a material difference to you one way or the other.

Sounds like they'll be pretty similar for you, though it sounds like the XB1's exclusive franchises (Halo, Gears, Titanfall (for now) etc) might be more up your alley.

We're on day three of a massive DDOS attack against various online sites and services. PSN has been up/down during this time and appears to be down once again since early this morning. I think this is where you see the robustness of the Xbox Live infrastructure shining through, versus PSN. I've been able to play every day without interruption (Battlefield 4 on the Xbone mostly).

If PSN were still free, this wouldn't be a big deal IMO. But now that it's at the same price point as XBL, it really needs to be able to handle stuff like this in a comparable manner.

What is the point of this? Is someone sending extortion notes to Sony here?

Some group called Lizard something or other. They're DDOS'ing Sony PSN, Blizzard, Xbox Live, Brazzers, and others. They've been tweeting about this for days taunting everyone including the FBI. Crazy stuff. Xbox Live however is robust enough to just shrug it off. Others not so much.

My personal use is Xbox 1 80%, PS4 15%, and Tablet 5%.

I watched the streaming Sunday Ticket yesterday on the PS4. The morning games were plagued with stuttering and hiccups in the feed. Those problems improved with the 4:00 games, although the volume kept jumping up and down for the second games. The video quality was OK, but noticeably worse than watching over cable/satellite/broadcast.

I couldn't initially find the Sunday Ticket app on the XB1 (under the general NFL app), so I'll try it out on that console next week.

I'm currently watching the MNF on the XB1 ESPN app. There is still some feed stuttering, but not quite as bad as yesterday. The video quality might be worse though.

Did anyone else try streaming the Sunday Ticket through a console yesterday as well?

Some pretty crazy deals going on right now for the XB1.

You can get XB1 + Madden 15 + Destiny (or any other game) + $50gc at the Microsoft Store for $400

or

You can get XB1 + Madden 15 + Destiny (or any other game) + 2yrs gamers club unlocked at Best Buy for $400

Both are for the non-Kinect version. If you want the Kinect you can get XB1 + Kinect + Forza + Destiny (or any other game) + 12 months XBL for $500.

Whoa, I haven't been paying attention to this thread for a long time, but I am thinking about getting a PS4 or XB1 soon. What's the non-Kinnect version?

It's the exact same product, only without Kinect. No spec differences otherwise, and you can always buy a Kinect separately if you decide that you want a camera and motion controls.

Hmm, interesting. I didn't pay any attention since the original launch and all the complaining about the Kinect made me decide I would get the PS4 whenever it happened.

Any hardware issues so far with the XB1 like there was with the 360?

Thank you for this post. Went ahead with this for my kids. Better than anything else I could find.

Most likely buying one of these with the new COD. Most of the usual suspects on here went XB1. I would like to stay with you jokers, but which system is better? Based on reviews PS4 is the way to go, but someone explain to me why not (other than not gaming with all of you).

I was looking for this thread recently. Considering jumping in with one of these this fall. I went in 50/50 but now it seems Xbox is taking the lead in my book.

Well, the Halo Master Chief Collection is coming out as an XB1 exclusive next month. That alone would cause me to choose XB1 over PS4. IMO, the PS4 is a better system than the XB1, but if your focus like mine is going to be on PvP first person shooters, then XB1 is the obvious option.

BTW, would be good to see you back GB.

:goodposting:

The PS4 has higher specs, but at the end of the day, compare the game libraries. Halo MCC is THE shooter of this gen for the forseeable future. If you're into racing, check out Forza Horizon 2 which just came out a few days ago.

Had both, sold the PS4. Better hardware but after 10 hours with Infamous there was just nothing left to play on it.

Starting to get bored of Titanfall, but Halo MCC coming out next month will be nice.

Have both, will keep both, but if I had to choose, XB1 wins.

Still a better interface (although PS4 is improved from last time), controller is miles better, snap ability and such is nice, voice commands work well... just a better overall system. And with Halo, a better game library too.

This is very similar to what my buddy has told me. He's a Playstation lifer, used to rip on me mercilessly for being an Xbox player (though I own both 360 and PS3). He bought a launch PS4 and sold it about 2 months ago because he says the game library is better on Xbox. He's been playing a lot of Titanfall apparently. Him selling the PS4 and going with the X1 is a pretty big coup in my book. His opinion carries a lot of "gaming weight" for me. Wondering if other people are seeing similar results.

My buddy (Scurvy) who is a PS guy at heart, bought a PS4 at launch even though he knew I was likely going Xbox1 at some point. I think he hoped to persuade me.

Not too long ago he cursed at me and said he'd probably sell the PS4 and buy an XB1. If you're in the "play with friends" category, I still think XB1 is the way to go.

My gaming time with the xb1 the last six months has been limited by also having an infant to take care of. I can't really give it an enthusiastic recommendation for that reason - I only got about 15 hours out of titanfall (not a fan of the multiplayer only FPS though it is exceptionally well done) and Ryse is sitting unopened on my desk. I am a much bigger fan of the Halo and Gears franchises than I am of anything on PS, though, so I don't regret my purchase.

I have to say I dig the voice commands on the Kinect. It turns out I use them all the time when watching movies (play/pause), particularly given the presence of the aforementioned infant. I like that it recognizes me and signs me in when I turn it on, rather than having to manually log myself in like when I use my 360. There are some minor conveniences that are nice there if you get the bundled system.

I'm probably going X1 so I can stay with the majority of the FBG's on FPS games

Is there a favorite between the two for young kids? My son is turning 10 this December and we will be buying him a new game console. He's been exclusively on the Wii the past couple years - Lego games, Mario and similar. He'll not be playing shooter games for some time - probably Lego/Marvel type games, Fifa and Madden and similar. I don't think he'll be doing anything online, but that's something I know nothing about so perhaps that will change.

I started playing UFC demo, I might have ADD or something but the tutorial was taking waaaaay tooo long for a sport I barely care about and i just quit the game in middle of one of those choke hold parts.
This is me on 95% of games I play.Btw- Don't tell xbox or sony but the whole free trial/demo thing has saved me (and cost them) thousands of dollars over the years.

I've been playing games long enough to figure out what will annoy me about a game in about 5 minutes.
LOL, I am with you on all accounts here. Maybe I'm getting old or phasing out of the gaming thing but I really don't want a 1000 different button combos to learn how to revers this move if I am on my left shoulder, this if I'm on my right shoulder, etc. I abandoned that game in about 30 minutes.

Like you, I have evolved from the "buy it, hope its good" phase to the "rent it" phase to the "demo it" phase and it takes me longer to download these games than it does to figure out if its a keeper.

:finger:
You know I can't quit you. I will wait until I hear which system has the most online players of AW. I am looking forward to BF Hardline.
I'm thinking its going to be X1. Wont be jumping on the bandwagon anytime soon but I see that most of my 360 ifriends have already made the leap.
I can see why that would be, but looking at the a amount of consoles sold leads me to believe PS4 will have more players. (Minus the hardcore who buy for the xbox first policy). I did like Halo though.

Nothing left to play on it? What are the games not available for PS4? Is it just all these first-person shooter games? My son pretty much plays all the different sports games. Always been a PS guy.

I picked another one up for $165 with a PS3 trade-in for XB1 console, AC:Unity, AC:BF, and 12 months Xbox Live at Best Buy last Saturday when they were doing the free XBL promo and with a 10% movers coupon (can be purchased on ebay for a couple bucks).

The free XBL promo is over but the 10% still works as does the $150 credit for a 250gb PS3/XB360 trade-in.

Target deal for $329 with the gift card looks pretty sweet too. Rumors swirling that Microsoft Stores are going to be selling them for $299 on BF. For the bundles, any of these deals are a steal.

people actually spent money on both systems and games? if you're that into gaming wouldn't you already know that the games and even the hardware are pretty much the same. btw... I bought 2 PS4 and 2 XB. I love the Xb so much that I threw both sonys in the garbage.

Xbox Live network is the difference.

If it is on both consoles and mutli-player then I would go Xbox for the game. PS/4 just like the PS/3 is simply for the few big games that are not available on the Xbox One.

Thanks. I have a 360 but it's the old outdated white one. Might look into that Micorsoft thing.

I've had both systems for almost a year now and find myself using them about equally. Oddly, I haven't done much gaming, although I've spent more time with games on the PS4 than the XBO... basically, any multi-platform game and couple PS4 exclusives (The Show and Last of Us).

I've been running the Sunday Ticket through both. Switching between games is definitely smoother and faster on the PS4, but only the XBO has the additional NFLN content. Importantly, the XBO also has the ESPN channels to stream through (great for MNF, the occasional CFB game and Sportscenter) as well which is a really nice feature that the PS4 is lacking.

I haven't noticed any appreciable differences streaming Netflix and the WWE Network or playing Blu-Rays, but I'd give a slight nod to the XBO for the Kinnect voice command system... it's much more handy than I expected it to be.

O c'mon .

Groupon has the Microsoft Xbox One Holiday Value Bundle (No Kinect), which includes the Assassin's Creed Unity Game and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Game for a low $314.99 Free Shipping after 10% off Coupon Code: "TRIPLE" (Exp 3/5). Tax in most states. This BEATS most of the incredible Xbox One deals we saw on Black Friday/Cyber Monday!!

Just October of last year, we were seeing the Xbox One price dropped to $350 without any games and we all considered that a great deal. Just 3 months later, you are getting a brand new Xbox One with two blockbuster titles for $315.
Groupon has the Sony PlayStation 4 500GB Last of Us Remastered Bundle + 12 Mon PS Plus Subscription for a low $386.99 Free Shipping after 10% off Coupon Code: "TRIPLE" (Exp 3/5). Tax in many states. You are essentially getting a 10/10 IGN rated "Masterpiece" game and a 1-Year PS Plus Membership for LESS than the price you would normally pay for the console by itself!!

Features a new custom-designed AMD x86-64 Jaguar 8-core processor with Radeon graphics, 8GB DDR5 RAM, 802.11n wifi and bluetooth, USB 3.0 input, Blu-ray drive with 4K movie support (including streaming 4K movie delivery), newly designed DualShock 4 controller w/ built-in touchpad, built-in video recording of your games, and much much more.
Since my Xbox 360 is on the fritz, and I'm about done with the PS3 games I want to play, I'm thinking of getting on of the newer systems.

So for $315 for the XB1 vs $387 for the PS4, it's a pretty easy decision...right?

(Although I really want to play the new Uncharted on PS4 when that comes out.)

Just my non-epert opinion, but to me this isn't a question of price. The number one question for me is the games, does one system have more games you are going to play than the other?

I don't play a massive amount of games, just a few. Halo was the only game on Xbox I wanted to play.

But for me the deciding factor was this. I've owned the original Xbox (went through two, both eventually stopped working) and a 360 (stopped working causing the purchase of a new system). I've also owned the original Playstation (still works) and PS3 (still works). At this point, I don't know how many more systems I'll be buying. I didn't want to buy another that I knew would come with a shelf life, so I bought the PS4.
