Yet another Pitt Bull attack (1 Viewer)

Are we talking about dog bites? Who knew? I was more focused on maulings and human deaths.

One breed comes to mind as I believe would be the case with most people when this topic comes up. Your points don’t pass the eye test.

If we are talking about human deaths, then maybe we should be talking about Mosquitos, Humans & Snakes.

Mosquitoes are responsible for around 725,000 deaths per year and approximately 475,000 people die every year at the hand of fellow man.

But, if you want to stick with dogs.

The most common contributing factors in fatal dog attacks were: absence of an able-bodied person to intervene, no familiar relationship of victims with dogs, owner failure to neuter dogs, compromised ability of victims to interact appropriately with dogs (e.g. mental disabilities), dogs kept isolated from regular positive human interactions versus family dogs (e.g. dogs kept chained in backyards), owners' prior mismanagement of dogs, and owners' history of abuse or neglect of dogs. Furthermore, in 80% of incidents, 4 or more of the above factors co-occurred.  Notice breed was not one of the factors.

There is no credible evidence that breed determines or predicts dangerousness.
This is schtick right?

Tell you what. You find all the articles you can about yorkies putting people in the hospital or killing them. We can then compare it to the list of articles where pits did the same just in this thread. Ready go!

Idiot BIL is a bit of a pill popper/neck tats type. Married with two children under 10, and he lives nearby the in laws. I had heard he went and got a pit bull. Great. We went down to visit the in laws and Johnny Cool Guy has to go down the block to get his stupid animal and bring it over to show it off. There I am out there with my three girls, and the 2yo and 4yo gathered around and he brings this thing up close. Holy ####. First of all, the ##### couldn’t even control the thing on the leash. It was massive, all muscle, and was pulling him everywhere. He had to fight with all his might to keep it in one place. And the head had to be two feet wide. It was the biggest #######ed head I’ve ever seen in a dog. And the guy is like “oh don’t worry he’s really sweet, he’s just jumping around because he’s excited,” and all I could hear is every single quote from every single article in which a pit bull stuns everyone when it mauls a small child to death. I grabbed my girls and was like “yeah; we’re good,” and brought them into the house immediately.

Are you ducking kidding me?  Expose your own kids to that, fine. You’re the idiot and it’s your family.  But don’t dare expose mine to that. Moron.  My blood was boiling.  I’ve seriously never seen a dog that looks like that, and if it snapped, there is not a damn thing anyone out there could do about it before there were dead children.

I later overheard some comment he made I suppose in response to my reaction, like “yeah they get a bad rap but it’s not true, they’re great dogs,” and I just rolled my eyes and wanted to fax him this thread.

People are breathtakingly stupid.

Hey noob, mosquitoes don't kill people, you are probably thinking of plasmodium. Also, what about mycobacterium tuberculosis?

Two years ago now a  pit chased my wife home when she was out walking our dog.  It hung around outside, running at large, no control whatsoever, no owner in sight.  That animal disappeared from our neighborhood that night, never to be seen again.  Those same people have a new pit.  It too runs at large, without supervision.  It menaces folks, particularly if they are walking their dogs.  It jumped on a neighbor trying to get at her Jack Russell which she had picked up as the pit charged.  The Jack Russell escaped through its dog door into its house.  The pit tried to pursue but got thwarted by the doggie doors size. The neighbor had scratches from the dogs nails and a nice set of bruises from being knocked down.  I have a feeling it too will disappear from the neighborhood never to be seen again.

Great example here of a very irresponsible dog owner.  Even if you replaced the pit in the story to German Shepard, Rottweiler, Mastiff, etc....it would still be a scary situation.

Shame the previous pit disappeared and the new one might too.  Very uncool if a neighbor is taking matters in their own hands and doing this...

Totally justified. Sorry, animal nerds.

Guy: “Hi, I’m looking for a dog for my small sons.”

Pet shop dude: “cool, any idea what you’re interested in?  We have lots of great small and mid size dogs that are excellent with small children.”

Guy: “Nah, I need something huge and real bad ### looking.”

Pet shop dude: “uhm, ok. Well, we have Labrador retrievers and German shepherds, these are excellent dogs and make great pets.”

Guy: “Nah dude, those are wussy ####### dogs. Got any pit bulls? Check my neck tats bro!”

Pet shop dude: “I mean, I wouldn’t recommend one for small kids. You ever read the news? But if you absolutely must have one, we have these smaller ones over here that are really tame and could work.”

Guy: “Nah man, I want the biggest, baddest one you got. I want his head to be the size of a Volkswagen. Super strong and with extra sharp teeth. You know, preferably something that neither I nor any other adult humans will be able to control without military gear.  Got anything like that?”

In my experience the breeds with a high incidence of biting are the breed which is the "flavor of the day".  at times this has been shepherds, rotties, dobermans, cocker spaniels, yes cocker spaniels, chows, and now pits.  You get a confluence of poor breeding and owners with no experience, or concept, on how to train and socialize a dog or how to supervise it.  Pits are remarkably capable animals.  That exacerbates matters when they are out of control, as opposed, to , say, a beagle.

:lmao:

You should be outraged at pet shops selling any dog in the first place.  Those dogs are put through hell.

My immediate neighbors have two boxers, beautiful animals, brindle coloration.  They have the most athletic gait of any dog I have ever seen.  They are aggressive at their fence and have breeched it often.  Once out they are the shyest, most retiring dogs ever, very sweet animals. They just want out to see what's going on. Still, they scare the mothers in the neighborhood with young ones as they are mistaken for pits.  I have taken those animals home more than once and patched the fence for the guy who is not very handy, but his twenty year old fence, poorly maintained, always gets breeched somewhere else by these athletes.

These dogs spend a lot of time in their yard, day and night.  It keeps the coyotes at bay.  They don't come around like they use to, of course our neighborhood is getting built up and that too forces the coyotes to a different range.

who the heck still goes to a pet shop to get a dog?

Are you kidding me?  Just now this very moment I’m sitting in an airport bar in DC Reagan watching a news piece on local news about a grown woman who was killed by her own dog, and a grieving husband being interviewed.

Anyone wanna guess the breed???

Oh man you guys are so close.

BTW I’m like eleventy drinks deep at the airport right now, so apologies in advance to the mods if I say something in slightly different wording than Jesus might.

Oh @CHEF, here’s a real life example. Please don’t try and say this idiot didn’t get this dog to be cool. He did and it’s obvious and he’s a ####### idiot. I would have done exactly what Otis did. No chance I’m letting my kids around a POS dog like that. I can’t keep mosquitoes away from my kids, although I’m pretty sure they kill a lot more people in 3rd world countries, but I sure as #### can keep those death traps away from them.

Baby sitting a pit because the owners are homeless looking for a place. Sweet dog, always has a smile on his face and is very gentle with people. However, in the two weeks he has been here, he has attacked two cats, one had to be put down today. Told them to come and get the dog because I think  he will get people next

Pretty sure you'll end up with a seat on the plane next to someone with their emotional support pit.

Schnauzer?

“Guys the pit bull half of the dog didn’t do that. This dog was a mutt, and I’m certain it was the poodle DNA that did the killing”

That where we’re headed here?

I’d call animal control one time - next time I’d be inclined to taking care of it myself.

And to revisit this part.  We keep hearing this argument over and over and you know what, I’m fine with it - you want to say don’t ban pits unless you ban German Shepard, Rottweiler, Mastiff, etc - go for it, ban them too.

Note, I’m also a gun control fanatic and perfectly fine if you ban all guns too.

Meh.  Not a fan of banning something entirely.

I am a fan though of better regulations, better training, education, less dog abuse, etc.  Let people own whatever dog they want but if that dog hurts anyone, make sure the penalty is worthy and the dog owner doesn't go scott free.

The dog pictured in your link is definitely mixed breed.  Probably has some pit bull in it...sure...but it's mixed.
Looks to me to be half Staffordshire Terrier and one quarter each Dogo Argentino and Dogue de Bordeaux.  Also, its a bit over weight.

what do we have to do to kill this thread? Can we all admit pit bulls are bad and it will just go away? I want to start a red headed people are witches thread, and at least give it a good run.

83 pages is way too long for this. pit bulls are bad. move on now please

Why kill the thread pit bull-like? What’s wrong with keeping awareness alive?

Link has video.

CINCINNATI —

An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured in Price Hill after he was attacked on Oct. 9 by a large dog police described as a red pit bull mix.

“We just see the dog attacking the little boy,” said Charles Rowe, who lives in the neighborhood. “He was dragging him across the road.”

A teenager was walking a 4-year-old dog when it attacked another child who was playing in the street. Video shows the dog wouldn’t let go of the boy’s leg.

Rowe tried to help and the dog turned on him.

“Even when the dude comes and puts the leash around him, he’s still holding me,” Rowe said.

Rowe was bitten on the back side and on the thigh.

“I’ve never seen a dog attack someone like that,” said Jeremy Conatser.

Conatser said a man came running with a shovel and another with a chair. They hit the dog and it finally released Rowe.

A woman who says she was caring for the dog said the dog is friendly and up-to-date on shots. According to her, the teen walking the dog said the children in the street was taunting the dog, causing it to attack.

The boy spent a week in the hospital but is now recovering at home.

The dog owners have been cited but the fate of the dog has not been determined.

walking my dogs and kid yesterday. Pit bull mix, rotty mix, and a 15 month old, good times. Pretty close to a daily thing, and we walk for about 45 minutes-1 hour. yesterday walking on the sidewalk, and a dad with about 3 kids is walking on the other side of the street. they cross toward us, and all are running. little boy comes over and smacks my pit bull (didn't see exactly where). my pit bull looked at me, I said "c'mon, let's go" and we continued to walk. She stood right next to me and we carried on. Don't even think the dad of the kid even reprimanded him. I would have, but hands were a bit full for lesson-teaching time.

Take that suckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: I didn't see the smack because I was watching the rottweiller mix and making sure the stroller didn't tip over. he is the one though, if you guys feel the need to start a thread, that I had to watch.

Solid parenting. You showed those other nerds in town how nerdy their animal pets are compared to yours!!  rawr

:lmao:

@modogg I know you are good people. I hope your dogs are well behaved for their entire lives. I know there is no way I would take the chance.
yeah. i mean the story is simple. i was walking my dogs, some bad parenting had a kid come running up to my dog, and my pit bull showed that she is well tempered and trained by simply listening to me and following in step. Not sure why @Otis had to call the kids who ran up "pets" as if they were animals, but all good.

and as for being well behaved for their entire lives, they try. they are dogs and do "dog things" plenty, and for some odd reason as they are getting old they are getting less obedient and a little more stubborn. But they still listen very well when they need to.

Seems to me you are welcoming a situation where you cannot possible be in control of all you need to be in control of.  What happens if Pepe LePew strolls into sight and both dogs get overly excited, start pulling and jumping, and their leashes knock over the stroller?

Anyway, nice to know you can procreate (I am presuming its yours).  Given the two penile compensation dogs I would perhaps have had questions if you didn't have the bona fides right there in the perambulator.

so your suggestion is I don't walk the dogs? that is a good one, sound advice! and yes, getting dogs from rescue shelters is often equated to penile compensation.

this thread is always good times. I have walked the 3 of them practically every day for the last 15 months. Appreciate your concern, but we have probably come close to seeing it all and we have all managed to survive

ETA: i assume this is just low level trolling, but did want to add, that i would put a hefty wager on all the stories in here about dog attacks that 70% of them probably do not get walked or have consistent exercise. Likely more, but wanted to be conservative.

Noob? I was here 13 years before you joined. You’re not the dumbest person on the planet, but you sure better hope he doesn’t die.

Mosquitoes kill more than 700,000 people every year and account for 17% of the estimated global burden of infectious diseases. Think again genius.

I'm not saying some morons get dogs cause they think they're cool. I would say the majority of responsible owners are not looking for a cool dog, they are looking for a family member, a companion, you know, normal reasons to own dogs.

I believe his point was that it’s not the mosquitoes that kill people. It’s the infectious diseases they carry that kill people. Semantics perhaps.

This is the most amusing thread on this site.

Grown adults crying about dogs and acting like they are the moral leaders in the world because they hate certain dogs.

THE PITBULLS ARE COMING TO GET US!

Seems like a certain person said to a woman pick me or the dog and she picked the dog...that person is now bitter, embarrassingly bitter.
I just came here to laugh at this thread for being amusing as which this thread was obviously intended.
