It's a weird spot for sure.

The folks that really don't like it are something I don't understand.

And I don't really understand the sanctimonious high horse from the folks who scold the people that like it.

It's interesting telling people how they should feel.

Overall, it's just a fascinating issue I think.

Personally I don’t think people care that much and are turned off more by the Chiefs State Farm commercials

Yes, I am a fan who has followed the tour, and it has been difficult since the tour started last March to get a ticket to any of her shows on Stubhub for less than $1,000 a ticket. Yes, $1,000 a ticket. That is how high the demand is. Meanwhile, you could get second hand tickets to see Madonna and Beyonce, two of the other biggest female stars of the last 30-40 years, in the last year for well under a hundred bucks on Stubhub. It's insanity, quite honestly, for anyone to be this popular.

Meanwhile, you could get second hand tickets to see Madonna and Beyonce, two of the other biggest female stars of the last 30-40 years, in the last year for well under a hundred bucks on Stubhub. It's insanity, quite honestly, for anyone to be this popular.

Yep, it's levels of popularity and fame that we have never really seen before.

I'm using the "would more people be able to identify a picture of X" definition of fame/infamy. Trump is well known the world over (I travel internationally and he is/was on the news even when he wasn't president). Putin has been in office forever and is very identifiable. Maybe both more for infamy than fame, but both have been in the public zeitgeist for decades now.

Don't get me wrong, I think Taylor Swift is probably the most identifiable person in entertainment in the world right now, but would more people in, say, Romania be able to identify Swift? Or Trump? Or Putin?

You don't have to like any of these people, but we know them and talk about them so they are, by definition, known by many i.e. famous.

Agreed. And it's still a bit weird for me since I've been a rocker my whole life, and most of the bands/artists I have been a big fan of in real time (meaning, not counting the classic rock bands I love who I got into well after their primes) have been either on the fringe of mainstream or underground. For every Foo Fighters or Muse show I have been to, I have been to five shows at a 2,000-seat venue to see an obscure prog rock band. So, to be a fan suddenly of an artist not only this mainstream, but this crazy popular, is kinda surreal.

First of all, it is beyond hyperbole to suggest that we have been inundated with Taylor Swift coverage during football games. That is simply not true. It is something like 30-40 seconds over the course of a 3hr broadcast. Totally insignificant. Has their relationship been covered more granularly in broader popular culture? Of course. Because she is the biggest pop star on planet earth. All of the social media gossip accounts are all over it. And, of course, people are conflating the broader coverage with what is shown during actual football telecasts. I would suggest that the Brads, Chads and Dads curate their social media accounts more thoughtfully if they are so easily triggered.

Second, and more importantly, the fact that grown men are actually triggered by this is a perfect example of society today in the social media age. Everyone wants to be enraged about anything and everything and shout that rage into the endless silo that is social media. And, the truly sad part of it all is that the rage (on any given topic) is often informed by, or at least underpinned by, political ideology or party affiliation.

These are the the times we now live in and every day we move closer and closer to a post-truth world (if we are not there already).

I voted kind of like it by the way. I respect the hell out of Taylor Swift, even if I do not at all care for her music. Incredible woman.
