It's also sort of like having to watch every single Chiefs game with the "I only watch the Super Bowl because of the commercials" people. The people who need a distraction from football while they're watching football are tolerable (barely) one day a year. Not for 20+ days per year.

Every time somebody tells me that the commercials, a particular celebrity, or whatever make football fun to watch, I reconsider my opposition to denaturalizing native-born citizens.

For the most part, I really don't care if they focus on Swift. This isn't the first time that a NFL player is dating a superstar, and it won't be the last.

I don't like Taylor Swift at all. Don't like her music, don't think she that hot, she's super annoying, but I get it she's a pop icon, huge influence on pop culture, and the NFL is trying to drum up ratings through her. I would do the same thing if I was an NFL executive.

I am a very anti celebrity guy. I will never understand people that get all worked up because they meet their favorite celebrity. Heck, I probably could run into many A-list celebrities on the street and not recognize them.

Don't really care one way or the other. Not interested in it, but the TV cutting to her for 3 seconds a few times a game doesn't really bother me any more than when they cut to Jerry Jones for 3 seconds a few times a game. A little easier on the eyes, at least.
To be fair, the cuts to Jerry Jones when the Cowboys are losing are always a pleasure. Even more so when they are getting dog walked at home in a playoff game by a 9-8 team. LOL

Has 0 effect on my life or my viewing pleasure of football. As a Raider fan I never liked Kelce but then I started listening to him and Jason's podcast and now I'm a fan of both, they just seem like genuinely good people.

I'm seriously intrigued as to why someone would dislike another person because of who they are dating, there are some odd people in this world.

Long ago, Axl Rose dated a model that was OMG gorgeous. I probably said "wow she's hot." Meanwhile a large amount of people had opinions and comments and I thought why do people do that? Who cares who they date?

I don't think I've ever changed in this regard.

Last year? Year before? We've seen a lot of momma Kelce and I think awww what a good supporter cheering her boys on and traveling, she seems sweet Then I watched the game as it continued.

Sunday I thought wow they look happy, good for them.

Maury Povich, Geraldo, and those rags that were at the checkout line have proven there are quite a lot of people that put more thought into others relationships than I do. Brad and Angelina, Tom and Giselle....I don't have more than a five second thought but people are different and get really into this stuff.

The coverage- I think during a game, we saw more of momma Kelce in previous years than Taylor this year. Didn't she change jerseys and hop on a flight? Wasn't there a funny comment where she doesn't trust the boys to make a good pregame meal but the team nutritionist does that so she doesn't have to worry or somesuch? I don't wholly remember, just a cute quick loving anecdote.

I'm certain we saw more of momma Kelce than we have Taylor though

I'm old enough to remember when AJ McCarron's girlfriend was the star of a BCS National Championship game because she's beautiful. The announcer spent more time commenting on her looks than the plays.
The whole "Look at this famous person rooting for her famous boyfriend" seems pretty benign.

I've watched most of the games for Fantasy purposes. Had a lot of Mahommes and/or Kelce in important leagues. It was a little heavy when she first started coming to games. It's been a very small part of recent KC games.

The NFL would be stupid not to capitalize on it a little bit.

No idea why anyone cares
People are simple. They are told what to think, what to buy, whats right/wrong all by watching TV. Some people's favorite news channels have quite a few conspiracies concocted to make people not like Taylor Swift.
I know now that I should bundle home and auto because MaHomes, Kelce, Reid, and that other guy in every commercial tells me I should.

Don't care, D'Andre's the only Swift I've had a strong opinion on last few years. Got nothing on Taylor one way or the other and it the TV networks and NFL were not trying to capitalize on this it would be gross misconduct.

Put me in the category which finds it strange that people get actually mad over the coverage.

Screaming bear Jason Kelce shirtless with beer is definitely more entertaining.
I think it's fine. The coverage isn't overblown, what's overblown are the reaction to the 20 seconds of screen time she gets.
The NFL TV and stadium people could do a better job at entertaining us I guess.
The beer snake was wildly popular in the XFL.
The NBA and MLB have quick funny kiss cam moments. NBA has men being goofs getting way too into dancing to a song.
A lot of sports have mascot antics.
I guess the NFL is kind of lacking if Jason's shirt off was the best they had

So you learned nothing from Baker Mayfield then.

Only that he lives in a football stadium

I hate the Chiefs but don’t really care about Swift. She seems like a nice person but I’m not into pop music. My daughter and most of her friends are fans and I’m glad teenage girls have decent music since there doesn’t seem to be much of that around these days.

My biggest problem with the Swift-Kelce romance is that it is already impossible to get away from the Chiefs. I’m sick of the commercials. Their games are always shown on the networks and the announcers are embarrassing with their worship of Mahomes. He is the best QB in the game today but everything he does isn’t amazing.

The NFL is a well-run business and are going to use Swift to grab more female viewers. They know that they are losing a few fans like me but are gaining twice as many female viewers. However, I’m not sure they have looked ahead. The problem for the NFL will be viewers like me are leaving now and the Swift viewers will be gone when Swift and Kelce split or when Kelce retires after next season. Will be interesting what NFL viewership looks like in 2026 and beyond.

Everyone has different views.

I think Swift is attractive, and she seems to be a good person. My daughters who are in their 20s love Swift, but they think Kelce looks like a slimeball. Why? Have no idea.

For example, I'm sure we all remember that Asian lady who got way, way too excited over the Chargers during that one game. It was funny and made for an amusing side-character.

Now imagine every single Chargers game cutting that chick half a dozen times per game, and story after story about the crazy Chargers lady, and message board debates about whether Crazy Charger Lady has finally gone too far. At some point, normal people are going to want to just watch the damn game. I think many of us have reached that point with Taylor Swift.
Like Fireman Ed or McNasty for the Bucs?

They probably just mean meathead instead of slimeball.

I prefer actual genuine reactions.
If I want pre planned choreographed stuff then just watch random youtube videos.

Does not bother me, i just ignore it.

Usually i am working on stuff in the background when watching football and when they are between plays i do not watch as much.

No, those guys are fine, and I've never found coverage of Fireman Ed to be anything even close to excessive.

When Fireman Ed is showing in pregame/postgame and we're starting threads about Fireman Ed, call me and we'll talk.

Voted "sort of dislike it" just because I think the TV coverage overdoes it. Once or twice a game, no big deal. The networks are rarely able to contain themselves to that however.

I'd feel the same way no matter who it was. If during a routine Saints game, the CBS broadcast team felt it necessary to say "here's President Obama enjoying that play" several times then I'd be annoyed also.

Researcher:
The average radio listener listens for eighteen minutes a day. The average Howard Stern fan listens for - are you ready for this? - an hour and twenty minutes.

Kenny:
How could this be?

Researcher:
Answer most commonly given: "I want to see what he'll say next."

Kenny:
: All right, fine. But what about the people who hate Stern?

Researcher:
Good point. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day.

Kenny:
: But... if they hate him, why do they listen?

Researcher:
Most common answer: "I want to see what he'll say next."

Similar dynamic exists here.

I felt like both got some camera time at pretty much every home game.

There are a lot of people that believe this lady was a plant - wasn't even a real fan.

We play a game at home - how many time do they show/mention Taylor Swift vs. the opposing team's points scored. Swift has won a few times.

Which is worse, showing a few seconds of Taylor Swift or having to hear this year’s catch phrase “line to gain” a hundred times a game? Previous years was “a football move”.

I miss the Miller Lite commercials from the 70s. They didn’t care about bundling mahome and mauto.
I don't know if I ever seen them live but the high life deviled egg commercial killed me. Saw it for the first time a few years ago. Just saw the hot dog commercial. Genius. Absolutely perfect marketing.

In our league chat where I'm 48, my brother is 43 and the rest of the league is 17-25, I was having a good/great time with a "who's that?" bit. So I've been having fun with it. Other than that. I don't care and find the over-reactions and then the counter-over-reactions sort of funny but not noteworthy or any more annoying than any other garden variety trend or whatever.

Mildly annoyed.

I watch sports not only for the play on the field, but also the emotion side of the game. So when something big happens, I want to see the sidelines, the reactions of the players and coaches. The people that I've invested time into following. I really don't care what-so-ever what Taylor Swift's reaction is. Showing Swift takes away time seeing the what I want to see.

If I went to a Taylor Swift concert, I'd be there to see her. I wouldn't want to have to look at a picture of Kelce's mug every time she hits a high-note, or whatever.

I believe she was on screen for a total of 30 seconds during the game? How often did they show Purdy‘s parents or Jessica Simpson when Romo dated her?
I find the outrage amusing. Her and Kelce seem genuine people and her getting hate from fragile male egos is funny. She gets people to register to vote and he is pro vaccine. How horrible!

I couldn't care less. I think the people who are irritated are people who want to be irritated.

On a side note, Travis Kelce is probably my favorite player in the league to watch (its him or Keenan Allen) and if this draws more attention to how incredible he's been in his career, that's probably a net win.

I'm seemingly in the minority given what I read in the game threads on Sunday, but SF/KC is the Super Bowl matchup I wanted to see most. I'd still be interested no matter who it was, but this feels like the best matchup we could have gotten to me.

I think it's a nice bridge to get people interested into football that wouldn't be interested in football. My daughter(16) has been asking alot more about the NFL (not just the Chiefs) since Taylor Swift showed up.

As a bit of a troll, it does warm my heart that a lot of guys seem so upset over it. She's a celebrity in the owners box and showing her is actually less obnoxious than Jack Nicholsons or Spike Lee's presence at baketball games back in the day.

That's how I feel. You get a billion crowd / owner / whatever shots a game, so who cares if a bunch are of her? This'll pass like every other celeb fad.

Completely with you on this one. The people saying that they will no longer watch the NFL or watch less are probably the same as the ones taking offense to a player taking a knee. If you look at the viewership numbers: they tell a obvious story.

I enjoy it mostly because my 2 best friends who can be grumpier beyond their age seem annoyed by it. I get great pleasure out of things annoy for them for some odd reason

Sone people enjoy others misery to take their mind off their own misery, or just that misery loves company.

Voted "Love It". I have 18 and 13 yr old daughters, who don't really like/watch/care about football, but who absolutely love TS. They are enchanted by her. They went to her concert, made the bracelets, chose a specific outfit for the concert, watched the movie of her concert in theaters, and then rented the movie at home. I just got a record player for my birthday, and they're starting to buy her vinyls. My Spotify user account is attached to our Amazon Alexa Echo Show unit. Since my 13 yr old is constantly playing TS on the Echo Show, my Spotify Wrapped top artist for 2023 was TS. I know about her all too well. I am happy that they're happy. My soon-to-be 16 yr old son, on the other hand, says he hates her, and pretends to like Kanye just to piss his sisters off. Gives us something to talk about, bond over, and have fun with.

All the haters just need to calm down, and shake it off, but if you can't, I guess you're on your own, kid.

A lot of projection here.
What exactly do you classify as projection there?
All the emotional baggage.

Most people are telling you that we're just mildly annoyed by the celebrity coverage and we'd rather see a bit less of that. That doesn't mean that we are mad, or outraged, or hateful, or threatened. It just means that we'd like to see a little less celebrity coverage during our football broadcasts. When you bring all the emotional hyperbole to the table, we figure it's a "you" thing.

Yep. Doing and saying things to make your friends miserable? Interesting way of displaying friendship.

Have a group of friends and one is a Raider fan (we’re 49er fans). He tries to troll us whenever they lose. All in good fun but to enjoy your friends misery is kind of pathetic

And as always, please comment on your vote.

I'm especially interested in who the fans are.

I know some KC fans and they love it. But not sure if that's how most feel.

I voted "Love It". I'll provide several reasons why I personally love it.

1. I've been a huge Swift fan for a number of years. Her music helped create a bond with my daughter who didn't want anything to do with me for the first 3-4 years of her life. Taylor's music and videos helped build a relationship between us that's special and now that she's 11, we're really close. She's my only daughter out of 5, so I am thankful for Taylor Swift.

2. The NFL is more than just a sport. It's entertainment. It's the biggest TV ratings draw on the planet, but it still wasn't pulling in people like my wife, MIL or daughter to watch it with me. You know who helped draw them in? Taylor's relationship with Travis. Now, my MIL is the biggest Kelce fan around, listens to the podcasts, watches them play, etc. My wife thought the Kelce Doc was fantastic and is watching more football with me than ever before. A lot of that has to do with the Lions' resurgence (she's a long suffering fan of Detroit sports, from Michigan) so this has been a nice development in our relationship. So when Taylor shows up on the TV, we all get a little excited and that's okay. It's not ruining the game. The cameras aren't missing any football action. It's just part of the entertainment. I love it.

3. My god, folks, this country has had 8 years of turmoil where politics and global pandemic destroyed marriages, ruined families, ended friendships, cost people jobs. In my lifetime, this country has never been more fractured, more divided or angrier than it has been since 2016. It's been a grind. Toss in some global wars that are further dividing folks and it's been a nasty, horrible slog. Well, along comes a feel good story of two 30 somethings at the pinnacles of their professions falling in love right in front of us. It's awesome. It's hopeful, it's touching, it's the very opposite of all the ugliness and bitterness we've endured. Why not embrace it? It doesn't make you any less of a man to be happy for two celebrities falling in love in front of us all.

4. The people that are voting differently, can you provide links to the outrage you have displayed over Tom Brady's public relationship and marriage to Gisele Caroline Bündchen or the times the TV cameras cut away to her in a box watching him play? Did we blow gaskets when Jessica Simpson was watching Tony Romo and the NFL cameras panned to her during games? How about when NFL cameras show Kelly Stafford or Brittney Mahomes? Can I get some links to the times you guys got upset about the LA Lakers showing Jack Nicholson at Laker games over the years? How about all the times you guys got mad at NY Knicks showing Spike Lee at games? Hey, more recently, what about the times you got mad at the TV cameras showing Travis Kelce's mom in attendance? No? Don't exist? Why is that? But Taylor Swift being on camera has you hot and bothered? Why? There's a word for this, but I just can't seem to conjure it up.

Good enough?

You’re taking this way too seriously 🤣

I like it. She’s a huge celebrity but does seem like a genuinely good person. I think I read that for the game the other day she was on less than 1/2 of one percent of the telecast? If something so minor is bothering you so much I’d love to know why.

As famous as she is I’m actually shocked they don’t show her even more.

She was on screen for 44 seconds during the last KC game. For context, 27 seconds were used showing people serving crab cakes and 24 seconds at the aquarium showing jelly fish, dolphins and sharks.
